Short Track Speed Skating at the Winter Olympic Games Beijing 2022

Recommended Posts

:USA USA Olympic Team

Men:

  • Ryan Pivirotto
  • Andrew Heo

Women:

  • Kristen Santos
  • Maame Biney
  • Corinne Stoddard
  • Julie Letai
  • Eunice Lee

Biney is the only skater with Olympic experience (Pivirotto was on the 2018 Olympic team but didn't race). Santos is the elder statesmen of the team, but she didn't make the 2018 team because she was recovering from injury at the time and finished fourth at trials. Lee came out of absolutely nowhere to claim the final women's spot, she has literally never made a US national team for anything.

  • 4 weeks later...

China just finished trials today and released the team list.

Men: Wu Dajing, Ren Ziwei, Sun Long, Li Wenlong, Zhang Tianyi

Women: Fan Kexin, Qu Chunyu, Han Yutong, Zhang Yuting, Zhang Chutong

A little controversy goes to An Kai not selected. He won most champions on the trials but his finishing time doesn’t meet the standards.

You used the provincial flags, just so you could use the New Brunswick flag right? :p

Sounds about right, definitely a Quebec sport

I may of may not have done all the flags as an excuse to use the :NBR flag.

(I would actually use the provincial flags more if they existed for more than NB and QC)

:CRO Team Croatia :CRO

Women

Valentina Aščić (500 m, 1500 m)

Yes, apparently we have received a reallocation for the 1500 m. :cheer: Phew. It would have been pretty lame to debut in the sport and then having everything wrapped up after heats of the shortest distance.

No idea who declined.

Germany most likely declined the second spot over 1500metres. Only Anna Seidel was nominated today.

    • Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody!    this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs.    most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 !  Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024   I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.
