Julio Velasco summons 30 players for training

Buenos Aires, Argentina, April 7, 2017 – Argentina coach Julio Velasco summoned 30 players from the men’s senior, U23 and junior teams to the Cenard facilities on April 3 to start preparing for the busy 2017 volleyball season.

Key player Facundo Conte will not see action this season. In agreement with coach Velasco, he will take a year’s break to be ready for bigger challenges in 2018 and 2020.

Velasco had a difficult decision to make but considered the importance of giving Conte some rest this year to put him in the best conditions for the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Velasco also offered his veteran players, including captain Luciano De Cecco, a year off this season after playing for 10 consecutive international seasons, but the superstar setter chose to be part of the team.

Argentina will open their season with the FIVB Volleyball World League, playing against Russia, Bulgaria and France in Pool C in Surgut, Russia.

Tommorow it's start of the U19 Boy's European Championships in :SVK and :HUN and we are hoping for a medal :champion:

:HUN:POL, :ITA , :RUS , :BUL , :BEL will play in Pool A in Gyor, Hungary

:SVK, :ROU, :TUR, :FIN , :FRA , :CZE will play in Pool B in Puchov, Slovakia,

All play-off matches will then be played in Gyor.

As was the case with women's championships, the top 6 teams will advance to the world championships (and my bet is they would be :FRA,:RUS,:POL,:ITA:SVK and :FIN  )

It seems to be a pattern for CEV in these U championships to have all the big teams in one group.. It was the same with the girls a few weeks. So unfair.

Not only for CEV - even FIVB uses the stupid serpentine system. The same problem was during the olympic games when France, Brazil, U.S.A and Italy ended up in one group.

after a long and terrific fight we lost against Russia 2-3 :( In the other match the Czechs surprisingly beaten Turkey 3-1

Right now the Slovaks driven by awesome atmosphere on home soil play a very close match against France, hopefully it will end with a surprise

Surprise, surprise :) Turkey leading 2-0 against France :cheer:

Hopefully they wil be able to win as they lost versus Czechia 3-1 (25-22, 18-25, 16-25, 16-25) yesterday so another defeat means end of the medal hopes for them, and France already recorded 3-1 win over Slovakia (25-23, 23-25,25-19, 25-15), so nothing terrible happens if they lose :)

Congratulations at :champion:VakifBank Istanbul :TUR and their coach Giovanni Guidetti (Italian ..) for the CEV Women's Champions League

The Turkish team was too strong for Imoco, and deserved this trophy. This is their 3rd Champions League title (after 2011, 2013),
