orangeman 1,323 Posted February 4, 2020 #871 Share Posted February 4, 2020 (edited) Happened a week ago, but Laurence Vincent Lapointe has been cleared by the International Canoe Federation of alleged doping from this past summer. She's a gold medal favourite in two events, so that's great for Canada and the sport. Always good to have the best compete, especially in a new discipline. https://www.cbc.ca/sports/olympics/summer/canoe-kayak/laurence-vincent-lapointe-doping-verdict-1.5441395 Edited February 4, 2020 by orangeman
JoshMartini007 2,211 Posted February 8, 2020 #872 Share Posted February 8, 2020 With women's football and basketball Canada has now qualified 8 teams to the Olympics. We are one away from tying our record of nine done at the 1976 Olympics when we were hosts. We have four opportunities remaining... Men's Basketball - If we have our best players I would give us a great chance. Still Greece will be hard to defeat. Men's Baseball - Given our performances at the Pan American Games, the lack of the best players may help Canada. Regardless it'll be tough, but at least we still have two chances, though the addition of Chinese Taipei in the second one may not help. Men's Football - It depends on who comes. Our best team could very well qualify, but that's unlikely to occur. In the end we'll likely have to defeat Mexico or the United States (or Costa Rica) if we want to qualify. Men's Water Polo - Our least likely option. Things were already tough before South Africa decided to take its continent quota. We'd have to defeat one of Croatia/Greece/Montenegro to qualify, not to mention other European teams which on paper should be stronger than us.
