  1. I missed this, but last month the WFFD announced the countries qualified for the ultimate event in Flying Disc. Here is their explanation for how the quotas were allocated: “The WFDF Ultimate Committee led by WFDF Vice President Brian Gisel has considered whether a standalone qualifying tournament for TWG2022 would be feasible and it considered an early 2022 event proposal, but ultimately decided that it would not make sense. For that reason, and in light of the cancellation of WUGC 2020/21, the qualification of countries for The World Games 2022 will be based on Section 2 of the Qualification System for WFDF Ultimate World Games Events, Version 2008 – 1.1 (approved May 18th, 2008, and updated in 2019) which states: “The qualifying event for the World Games will be the most recent Ultimate World Championship event, which was held at least 8 months prior to the World Games.” In this case, the most recent Ultimate World Championship event is WUGC 2016.” So the countries qualified in Flying Disc are: Poland is the only country that participated in Wroclaw that failed to qualify for Birmingham 2022.
  2. 6th in size by area, 13th in GDP, 55th in population. Brisbane also hosted the World Expo in 1988. I think calling them irrelevant is quite harsh. I do agree that other countries should be given a fair chance to mount a bid for 2032, but there hasn’t really been a better bid floated.
  3. Yeah, it has do with how FIS Points work. Bendika was seeded much lower than she should be, since she normally competes in Biathlon. Because a “weaker” skier won the race, the points were factored higher than if a lower seeded skier had won. Becuase Bendika skied so fast, and was ranked so low, the FIS Points were factored in a difficult manner for slower athletes. Hopefully that makes sense, maybe someone like @heywoodu could explain it more eloquently than me.
  4. I need to correct this @hckošice. had a men’s skier meet the criteria at the U23 World Champs, so Slovakia will get a basic quota for the men.
  5. Just thought I’d give an overall qualification update, so we can know where things stand heading into heading into the sprints. Countries (with skiers entered at the world championships) that remain without a female athlete eligible for a basic quota: Countries (with skiers entered at the world championships) that remain without a male athlete eligible for a basic quota: You can see the damage done by Bendika on the women’s side. Plus, a few countries who have yet to race. Of the 8 countries without a quota on the men’s side, only 3 of them will start in the sprint (ESP, TTO, VEN). My guess is that only Spain stands a chance of meeting the criteria.
  6. Slovakia might have to hope for some ranking/reallocation magic if they want any men’s skiers in Beijing.
  7. I don’t believe Campbell Wright will start in the 15km. He posted on Instagram that he’s heading back to Austria for the Junior/Youth Biathlon World Championships. He probably just raced in order to qualify for the Olympics, but it was a damn good ski from him today.
  8. We saw a pretty good distribution of countries at Lausanne 2020, so there should be a good chance of that.
  9. The Mixed Nordic Team Events was dropped, and replaced by team events in each discipline. I believe the Ski-Snowboard Cross Relay was dropped as well. Curling Mixed Doubles didn’t not receive an increase in entries, but Curling received an increase in quotas. This was done to accommodate the presence of national teams in Mixed Doubles. It looks like we’ll have 16 NOCs in Mixed Team and 24 pairs in Mixed Doubles.
  10. The new individual event(s) to be confirmed is the (M/W) 1500m in short track. Dual Moguls in Freeski and Parallel Slalom in Snowboard are under consideration. Cross Country Cross (M/W) was the only non-team event dropped.
  11. Sports/Event Program and quotas announced for the 2024 Winter Youth Olympics. Also, more athletes, and most importantly, no Mixed NOC events!
  12. Bach also raised the possibility of kicking weightlifting off the program. https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1104676/bach-latest-iwf-warning
  13. I believe athletes don’t need the World Championship criteria in order to earn a reallocation, or further allocation down the line, so perhaps some the countries who missed women’s quotas might have a chance. Hopefully some of the women are able to pull a miracle in the sprint tomorrow. I just watched both races, and damn! The women’s race was merciless thanks to Baiba. I was impressed overall with the quality skiing from the Brazilian team @heywoodu. Great day for the Danes, Chanloungs, and Campbell Wright as well.
  14. Good luck to the Totallympians chasing Olympic qualification today! (@Jesús @brunamoura) I’ll be cheering for y’all.
  15. 2021 Summer Deaflympics postponed from December to May 2022.
  16. They definitely have skiers who could qualify, they just didn’t show up to the World Champs for whatever reason.
  17. “D.1. Basic Quota Within the maximum of one (1) athlete per NOC and per gender the basic quotas will be assigned as follows: D.1.1 Basic quota male The basic quota for one (1) male athlete will be assigned to all NOCs who have at least one (1) male athlete scoring less than 300 FIS points (including penalty) at one (1) individual competition held at the FIS Nordic World Championships 2021 (including the qualification race) or at the FIS Under-23 World Championships 2021. D.1.2 Basic quota female The basic quota for one (1) female athlete will be assigned to all NOCs who have at least one (1) female athlete scoring less than 300 FIS points (including penalty) at one (1) individual competition held at the FIS Nordic World Championships 2021 (including the qualification race) or at the FIS Under-23 World Championships 2021.” What you’ve posted are the additional criteria skiers must meet in order to fulfill the quota they earn in D.1
  18. Apparently failing to send cross country skiers to the Olympics isn’t that odd. They’ve actually competed more times in Biathlon (3 appearances), then they have in cross country (2 appearances). Worth noting that they did send 2 cross country skiers to the 2020 Winter Youth Olympics.
  19. has a cross country skier with a chance of qualification. and skiers will not be eligible since they didn’t compete at the 2021 U23 or Senior Nordic World Championships.
  20. I like how the bidding reforms that were meant to make the process more “transparent” and trustworthy, have resulted in this.
