    Time for freestyle

    57:
I believe the two biggest names are both in the bottom half, Higuchi (JPN) and Mongolia. the bottom half looks harder in general with Liu (CHN) and that guy from Tajikistan. still I believe the winner of JPN/MGL match will qualify. the top half will be between KGZ, KOR and UZB, Uzbekistan is bringing a new guy who was impressive in Ukraine. I say and

    65:
out of 3 "better" wrestlers here, two of them are in the top half. I think Bekbulatov will qualify easily from the bottom half. he is a former European champion from Russia. in top half our Yazdani will most probably face the Russian guy of Bahrain in the semis. while this guy had some good results I think the Yazdani junior can beat him. so and

    74:
Abdurakhmonov has to deal with 3 good wrestlers to qualify from the top half, I think he will. we have more wrestlers in the bottom half but I think at the end it will come to Iran and India wrestling in the semifinal. the Indian guy is new and I'm not really familiar with him, but he beat some good guys in the Indian trials so is dangerous for sure, still Emami is a world bronze medalist (he is new to this weight though) , still and

    86:
top half looks competitive with 4 good wrestlers, I think Takatani will qualify but all 3 other guys had some good results before. won't be easy at all. I see 4 wrestlers with a chance in the bottom half, KAZ, KOR, UZB and LBN. this guy from Lebanon (he is American in fact) left the LBN wrestling team when they forced him to withdraw against Israel, now he is back! but I assume he didn't train well recently. have a hard time to pick between UZB and KAZ here but since KAZ is the host so I think and

    97:
top half looks easy for the Olympic bronze medalist, Ibragimov should qualify easily.  bottom half is crowded but still Mohammadin usually techs these kind of wrestlers (techs = 10-0 win) that Korean guy had a good run at the worlds in 2019 and I know MGL is strong but still people expect Mohammadian to challenge the great Sadulaev, this should be easy for him. and

    125:
again 4 "good" wrestlers in the top half, I was impressed by this Kazakhstani wrestler before. so I pick him for the top half. even though nothing is guaranteed. the bottom half is between MGL and KGZ and maybe JPN. I say and

Uzbekistan is favorite to win 4 quotas (65, 74 and 97 are almost guaranteed to me) they have a good chance at 86kg and their 125kg is not that bad. it's possible if they qualify all 6 weights on Sunday.

I can't remember the last time we were "this" lucky with the draw. or maybe one of our guys hacked the draw software this time if Kazakhstan had this draw I would say this is fixed for sure all of our 6 wrestlers won't face their main rivals before the final. unbelievable !

    I will start with Greco

    60:
China already has the quota in the top half, maybe only that Mongolian kid can do something. the bottom half is a little more interesting, Sharshenbekov is huge favorite but Korea and maybe India won't be easy for him. I don't know this Korean guy, he is new to me but they are always good in this lower weights.  and are easy picks here

    67:
top half is much much harder, with Ryu, Shermakhanbet , Vardanyan + JPN and KGZ. I pick Ryu since he is already in the semifinal.
dream draw for Geraei! out of 6 guys "capable" of beating him 5 of them are in the top half! India has to be in the bottom half because of the seeding, I believe his biggest opponent is from China. and Geraei only has to beat the winner of CHN/IND! I say and

    77:
the great Kim Hyeon-woo is the main favorite and I think he will qualify from the top half but he got the toughest possible opponents here, Gurpreet from India and then Makhmudov (KGZ) who beat Kim at the Asian Games. I still think Kim survives this. the bottom half will be a direct match between China and Japan. really hard for me to pick between these guys but since the Chinese guy is new to this weight I say and

    87:
Sunil is already in the semifinal to face the winner of KAZ and JPN. I think these 3 guys are more or less in the same level. in a neutral country I would say India but to beat Kazakhstan in Kazakhstan you have to work a lot to beat the refs too! the bottom half looks good for our Nouri. he will face the winner of CHN/KOR in the semifinal. that won't be easy but still I expect Nouri to beat any of these guys relatively easily. so and

    97:
things are not very easy for the Asian Champion Saravi , he has to beat Uzbekistan and China to qualify but he will do that if nothing crazy happens. still he has to be careful. the bottom half looks more complicated with 4 or 5 wrestlers in the same level. while Kazakhstan will do its normal magic with the refs I expect that Kyrgyz kid to qualify. and

    130:
this one is more competitive than other weight, 7 wrestlers more or less in the same level. two groups. I think Abdullaev will advance from Group A, hard to pick the 2nd guy. group B will be closer , I don't know how good is the grandpa Tsurtsumia. he used to be very good but he is 40 ! I have a bold prediction here, wants to give it to China. but south Korea is a former bronze medalist. I say and but as I said all of these 7 guys are capable of wining the quota.

Here's a list of the German swimmers who so far have fulfilled the national qualification standards. I assume it will be updated after every meeting: Diese DSV-Schwimmer haben die Olympianormen geknackt | Stand 04.04.2021 (swimsportnews.de)

The athletes with an asterisk by their name are already nominated. The other ones could theoretically still be out of the team, if there are two faster Germans until April 20th. But at least in the cases of Schwingenschlögl and Thomasberger this is highly unlikely to basically impossible. Kullmann at 400 freestyle could still be in danger.

The issue with creating a personal schedule is that it's constantly evolving if you want to keep track of your countries' athletes, even during the day for stuff like fencing and judo. What I usually do is that I create a table listing all the Hungarian events for the day once the previous day is over and for sports where an athlete can have more than one match/race per day I leave multiple empty columns in the table, and I fill those slots with the scheduled time of the next matches as the day moves forward if they have qualified for the next round. That way I can keep track of what coming next.

Here's an example for a day of Rio:

Discipline Athlete(s) R64 R32 R16 QF Re SF F/3rd Fencing Rédli András 14:30       -     Judo Csoknyai László - 15:35           Fencing Boczkó Gábor - 16:15           Fencing Imre Géza - 16:45                             Discipline Athlete(s) H/Q Re QF SF F     Rowing Molnár Bendegúz Y Y 13:50 X X     Shooting Csonka Zsófia 14:00 - -         Shooting Tobai-Sike Renáta 14:00 - -         Rowing Juhász / Simon Y Y - 15:00 X                       Discipline Athlete(s) GS             Water polo Hungary 14:00             I don't write down the name of the events because I remember them anyway. "Y" means that they qualified the previous day and "X" means that the next round won't take place today.

I will probably do something similar this time, but I will also make time schedule for preferred neutral events. I didn't do that for the previous SOGs because I wasn't sure what the TV will air, plus for Rio we only had the Hungarian National TV, and they obviously prefer Hungarian events. This time I will have full control over what I can watch with Eurosport Player, plus I think even the Hungarian TV will have literally everything streamed live for free.

So your day will basically go from 200 to 1500 then a sleep break.  That's about the way it is for the Eastern US when the Games are in Europe.  We are going to have to go from 2000 to 900.  The trick for me is getting as much sleep as possible after the Opening Ceremony ends at 1000 EDT.   Then I begin my nocturnal existence. For me, I've been taking off since 1984, then added the Winter Games in 1998.

Its easier when you have been working at home for the last year and will continue that way until at least September.  The question for me is do I work on Friday 7/23, or just start my time off that day.

Well, here we go, the provisional Hungarian Olympic Swimming Team was announced. There are a few substitutes if one of the named swimmers refuse to enter in the given event. In men's 200m freestyle and 200m medley the final decision hasn't been made yet. This list also doesn't include swimmers with OSTs for obvious reasons.

    Men's
    50m freestyle - Maxim Lobanovszkij
100m freestyle - Kristóf Milák, Nándor Németh (substitute: Szebasztián Szabó)
200m freestyle - [Kristóf Milák and/or Nándor Németh and/or Dominik Kozma]
    400m freestyle - Gábor Zombori
    800m freestyle - Ákos Kalmár
1500m freestyle - Ákos Kalmár, Gergely Gyurta
100m backstroke - Richárd Bohus, Ádám Telegdy
    200m backstroke - Ádám Telegdy
100m butterfly - Kristóf Milák, Szebasztián Szabó
200m butterfly - Kristóf Milák, Tamás Kenderesi
200m medley - Hubert Kós, [László Cseh or Péter Bernek]
400m medley - Dávid Verrasztó, Péter Bernek

    Women's
    200m freestyle - Katinka Hosszú
400m freestyle - Ajna Késely (substitutes: Katinka Hosszú, Boglárka Kapás)
    800m freestyle - Ajna Késely
1500m freestyle - Ajna Késely, Boglárka Kapás (substitute: Viktória Mihályvári-Farkas)
100m backstroke - Katinka Hosszú, Katalin Burián
200m backstroke - Katinka Hosszú, Katalin Burián (substitute: Eszter Szabó-Feltóthy)
    200m breaststroke - Eszter Békési
    100m butterfly - Katinka Hosszú
200m butterfly - Katinka Hosszú, Boglárka Kapás (substitute: Zsuzsanna Jakabos)
200m medley - Katinka Hosszú, Dalma Sebestyén
    400m medley - Katinka Hosszú

Hosszú will obviously not enter in 7 individual events in the end (I hope). Milák now has the freedom to decide if he wants to do 100m freestyle, Sós gave his blessing.

The team will be finalized after June 19 (the final day of the Budapest Open).

They also announced that 56 Hungarian swimmers will compete at the European Championships.

I have been watching swimming for over two decades now and if there's one thing I know is that most promising/young Hungarian swimmers achieve PB times at the Games or at the Worlds, and both of the swimmers are still very young, Milák was born in 2000, Németh was born in 1999, meaning that optimally they should still improve for their first Olympic Games. They are already breaking or close to breaking their PBs in March, 4 months away from the event where they should be in peak form. That doesn't mean that they will certainly go under 48, Milák might even find 100m freestyle too risky if 200m butterfly turns out to be very competitive, but I am not sure why it would seem such an unlikely scenario. I am sure both Milák and Németh will be very disappointed if their times won't start with 47 at the Games, that will be the target from their coaches.
