Day 4, Wednesday
No swimming events on Day 4, sadly.
But still things are very interesting.
28. Cycling Track - Men's Individual Pursuit
1. Gintautas Umaras URS 4.33.66 FR1
2. Bernd Dittert GDR 4.33.88 FR2
3. Steve Hegg USA 4.35.57 LA1
According to English Wikipedia:
Eastern Bloc results in track cycling were better than Olympic results, but Friendship Games cyclists competed on an indoor wooden track, while the Olympic events took place on an outdoor concrete track.
So it is hard to say for me if we can compare cycling track results so simply.
Anyway, if we can and if we do - 4th would be Ryszard Dawidowicz POL 4.40.21 FR3
29. Gymnastics Artistic - Women's Team
1. Soviet Union 395.250 FR1
2. East Germany 392.500 FR2
3. Romania 392.200 LA1
Honestly I don't know if these results are reliable.
As I said before, 2 different competitions, 2 different sets of judges...
Czechoslovakia would be 4th (391.950 FR3)
United States only got 391.200 as LA2
30. Modern Pentathlon - Men's Individual
1. Laszlo Fabian HUN 5670 FR1
2. Anatoli Starostin URS 5650 FR2
3. Milan Kadlec TCH 5497 FR3
If we simply compare the points - no medal for LA winner Daniele Masala, ITA in an individual event
31. Modern Pentathlon - Men's Team
1. Hungary 16371 FR1
2. Italy 16060 LA1
3. Czechoslovakia 15918 FR2
32. Shooting - Men's 50m Rifle Three Positions
1. Malcolm Cooper GBR 1173 LA1
2. Milan Bakes TCH 1169 FR1
3. Ireneusz Jagodziński POL 1166 FR2
First gold for Team GB in LA!
And first medal for Poland!!!
The problem is that according to an official Polish Olympic Committee 1984 commemorative book (Na olimpijskim szlaku) - (On the olympic trail) Ireneusz Jagodziński wasn't a member of Team Poland who was planned to go to LA Olympics. We have planned to send there 3 shooters only, all male: Zygmunt Bogdziewicz, Jerzy Greszkiewicz and Adam Kaczmarek.
For the purpose of this thread, let's think he was there in LA and he gets first medal for Poland.
But if he's not there - next athlete would be Alexander Mitrofanov URS 1164 FR3
33. Weightlifting - Men's 67.5 kg (Lightweight)
1. Yanko Rusev BUL 337.5 FR1
2. Aleksandar Varbanov BUL 335 FR2
3. Yao Jingyuan CHN 320 LA1
4th gold for BUL in 4th weightlifting event.
4th CHN gold lost in 4th weightlifting event...
4th place for Marek Seweryn POL 315 FR3
And that's all for the part 1 of Day 4
No gold for USA on Day 4 so far!!!
