  1. It is. But do you want me to predict everyone who will probably get a quota? I'll try my best. Women's artistic gymnastics: Team (4 quotas): USA RUS CHN JPN GBR CAN FRA ITA GER NED BRA BEL Individual: AUS UKR ROU ARG HUN SUI MEX ESP KOR PRK SWE POR CRO SLO CZE POL INA UZB TPE EGY Men's artistic gymnastics: Team (4 quotas): RUS CHN JPN USA GBR UKR BRA SUI FRA GER NED ITA Individual: ESP KOR CAN TUR KAZ TPE HUN BLR ROU PHI ARM BEL
  2. Yes, but the team competition is still restricted to 4 persons. So, it makes sense to have all-arounders 1-2 and the best combination in 2 apparatus (women's, or 3 in men's), instead of 3 or 4 all-arounders.
  3. Do you mean ? has two medals in athletics in 1993 and 1995. I can't see such old results being modified. EDIT: gold medal in weightlifting is also from 1993.
  4. Great information! Now, at least, we can rest assured that all of the the post-Soviet states have won gold medals at the World Championships in any sport. I was in doubt about and , but they all got gold medals too ( in athletics, in weightlifting, in wrestling and archery),
  5. Gold medal for at the 2019 World Wrestling Championships. Not sure if this was their first ever gold medal, but it's still worth a shot.
  6. What's the deal with the Andorran lady? I remember she won a medal at the World Cup. Is this important? I guess it is, but I'm not sure how seriously the competition is taken by canoeists.
  7. Sometimes it makes sense for the team competition not to choose gymnasts who placed 3rd or 4th in the all-around. Maybe those who finished 3rd have nothing good to add to the team, or no chance to earn medals in individual apparatus, so it makes sense not to select them. I expect the 2020 team to be composed of gymnasts who place 1st and 2nd in the all-around competition, and two wildly different gymnasts with good chances of individual medals.
  8. VERY surprising results. First, Sunisa Lee almost beat Biles. I thought no one would come close to Biles until she retired, but look at what we got here? Second, Skinner came back very strong, and no one expected that. Wong and Hurd, who were no brainers for the team, finished very low and probably will not be selected. Chiles and Thomas, two great gymnasts who I thought would also be part of the team, finished in very low positions. I'm curious about who will be on the team. If these results are to be taken seriously (and, well, they are), the team will have unexpected names like Lee, Carey and Skinner.
  9. I honestly thought you were joking, and now I'm even more baffled to know you are not.
  10. I'm surprised no one tried to force Parkour into this.
  11. According to the document, countries which qualified one gymnast can try to qualify a second gymnast through the World Cup series. What the hell is FIG even thinking?
  12. At the time, getting rid of a score for artistry was the best option. It's not that artistic deductions were eliminated, but they are much less severe now. For example, gymnasts are supposed to link elements using dance steps, but now the Code of Points has become a rush for high difficulty with no attention to choreography anymore. Russia and Japan are the worst offenders, in my opinion (though Japan had a nice 5 balls routine today, I must admit), with skill after skill after skill, and no choreography linking these skills. But a specific score for artistry allowed much bigger differences between groups, and personal taste (of the judges) played a big role. Now, not so much anymore. Problem is that Russia is not deducted enough for lack of choreography, but I've come to the conclusion that as long as VIner-Usmanova lives, Russia will never be deducted for anything.
  13. Not really. Of course Italians were furious, but looking at the detailed scores it is not a surprise to see China in second. I was even more surprised with Russia earning gold (despite very visible flaws in their routines) than China getting boosted by hosting the game and making it to the podium. Italy was nice, but as you can see here their routines severely lacked difficulty compared to China and, especially, Belarus, who should have been the champions. The fact that China failed to reach the podium in World or Olympic competitions is not surprising considering they completely changed the composition of the group. They had to deal with injury in 2009 and missed the World Championships, and the next batch of girls were good but of course not on the same level as the girls from 2008. Spain won the silver medal at the 2016 Olympics and they will probably not even qualify for the 2020 Olympics (unless a miracle happens) because the new group of girls is not nearly as talented as the 2016 team. Unnecessary controversy here.
  14. Each of the powerhouses (plus Japan, who is now a powerhouse, I suppose) got a medal. Good. But the non-medal results are really important too when you analyze the bigger picture. Usually, the World Cup/Challenge Cup series offer a bigger picture about what's to come. This year, won 2 individual medals, and won one. got a silver medal, and and had fourth-place finishes once. Thankfully, were able to translate their good results to the World Championships, since individual gymnasts qualified for finals. and got individual finals too, albeit their WCup success being with their groups, not individual gymnasts. unfortunately didn't qualify for any finals. But a medal result at the World Championships is a different story altogether. It's crazy to predict when an "outsider" nation will be able to achieve one. Kaho Minagawa got only one bronze medal at the World Cup circuit, and then she magically earned one bronze medal too at the World Championships in 2017. However, Son Yeon-jae got 22 medals at the World Cup circuit before she earned one bronze medal at the World Championships. Both of them were pupils of Irina Viner-Usmanova. Go figure.
  15. Of course slips of the tongue might happen, and someone can always double check registrations for the date of birth in different past competitions (both China and North Korea lost world medals after inconsistencies were found), but I believe in you when you say evidence has been destroyed. China cannot be this dumb once again (they lost the team medal at the 2000 Olympics thanks to extreme dumbness).
  16. I am kind of disappointed with this explanation. It's not that I'm implying you are lying or anything, it's just that we've had all sorts of rumors for years, and when I thought you had inside information or tangible evidence, you just added more fuel to the rumors, but nothing really concrete. The scandal about the age of gymnasts in 2008 is some sort of US-fueled conspiracy theory. I don't doubt Chinese gymnasts were underage, but most of the talks after the Olympics come from sore losers who blindly defend the US gymnasts, even though they did not deserve to win the team title that year. I know that underage is underage, so if the Chinese gymnasts were really less than 16, the US should win, but we need evidence.
  17. According to a FIG's official document (here) Ukraine has not officially qualified, but they don't really need to do anything else. If they compete at the Europeans, then maybe you're right and the US will get the quota, I guess. But then, if the US gets the quota through the WC and finishes first at the Pan Ams, what will happen? Will the quota be awarded to Mexico, then?
  18. I tried to, but it just redirects to the home address (https://osumoney.xyz/) and I don't think this would help you, would it?
  19. The difference is that in 2016 only nations with two individual gymnasts in the top 10 were allowed to send both gymnasts to the Olympics. If this rule were still in place, we would have and with two gymnasts; and would lose one quota, while and would be guaranteed one quota (and also, considering the host nation quota reallocation). This would have been a lot better, in my opinion, for the sport. I believe the only sport with a specific score for artistic impression is artistic swimming. Not sure if equestrian (dressage) has it, and diving is completely crazy with its scoring system. In rhythmic gymnastics there are deductions related to artistic performance, but these are not exactly deal-breakers if the overall execution and, especially, difficulty, are on point. In artistic gymnastics there are also deductions related to artistic performance, but only in a couple of events: floor and beam. And, once again, if execution and difficulty are good enough, artistic deductions are not a big deal (the American gymnasts have mostly bad artistic performances in my opinion, but they still win gold).
  20. Qualified nations: Continental quotas still to be decided: Europe: 1 quota; top 3 favorites: Asia: 1 quota; top 3 favorites: Americas: 1 quota; top 3 favorites: Oceania: 1 quota; 2 nations will decide the quota, and Africa: 1 quota; favorite nation for the quota: (really, no other country comes even remotely close to Egypt)
  21. Well, Ukraine qualified after all. Very suspicious scores for some nations in this second half. This is not good for the sport.
