  1. Sad for Tsitsipas, he wasted 3 set points on serve in the second set against Djokovic, but maybe with a better draw he could've snuck a bronze. He probably won't get another Olympics on his beloved clay. Oh well...
  2. Yes, it's been terrible, and some Greeks who don't closely follow tennis now might think Tsitsipas was unseeded or something At the beginning of the event it was worse, the scores kept not updating or we had to keep score ourselves and the cameras after every few points would show the scoreboard in the stadium. Sometimes there were no scoreboards on screen at all...
  3. They could be the only AIN medal in Paris 2024? I don't know about some of the other sports though.
  4. Well technically Gianniotis won silver in 2016 but that was in open water, but this is the first Greek swimming medal ever in a pool, as the 1896 swimming events took place in the sea Kind of crazy we had won water polo (not that surprising because we're good) and diving (!!!) medals in a pool before a swimming medal Honestly Greek swimming really deserved this. We have quietly improved a lot in recent years, and we now have a lot of good swimmers. We joked about becoming a new swimming powerhouse at the European Championships because so many big names were missing, but honestly many of our swimmers' times there were really strong and they would've won medals in "normal" years anyways. We are still far from a powerhouse obviously but it's a step in the right direction! I hope we continue to improve! Also Gkolomeev into another Olympic final for us
  5. Thank you! His main event is the 100 backstroke, and I think he knew the only way he could win a medal here was to go all out and treat it like a 100 backstroke and that's why he started to run out of gas at the end but the strategy definitely worked! So happy for him especially after his heartbreaking 4th place in the 100 the other day. He really deserved this! And he takes the NR back from Siskos who was eliminated in the semifinals unfortunately.
  6. It will be very difficult, Spain was beatable in my opinion. Let's see what happens against Australia. We lost both games by 7 points so far which I think helps us if we can win tomorrow. Not having Sloukas at this tournament really shows, our guards have not been at their best and we have a lack of depth at that position. Though I'm happy Toliopoulos has improved a lot and stepped up, a year ago I never would've imagined him in the national team. He was good for our youth teams and then totally fell off, now he had a great club season and is showing he belongs on the national team.
  7. So in the end Ntouskos somehow made the final in a tough semifinal from Lane 1 Now we have all 4 of our crews in the A Finals, I really hope at least one of them can pull off a medal. I think I would most want Anastasiadou/Bourmpou but that seems to be the most unlikely, especially as seem to clearly be the best three teams
  8. We've all been in your situation, my technique is sometimes closing my office door so people think I'm extremely busy, or before I had my own office at a previous job, going to WC and sitting on the toilet with headphones in
  9. He said 4 years are a long time (he is 44 years old already), he will take it year by year and to ask him again in 2026 and then he will answer about 2028
  10. And when she was "pinned down" (sorry I don't know the proper judo term) at the end for 10-15 seconds, you could hear the desperation and heartbreak in her family members' voices screaming "Pame Liza! Pame Liiizzaaaa!" because they probably knew it was basically over and they were doing anything they could to try and inspire her to pull off a miracle
  11. We definitely expected a medal in judo yesterday but from Teltsidou, not Tselidis! I'll take it though! What a nice surprise for once. I know he won a couple of European Championships medals in the past but this is probably the first surprise Greek Olympic medal since 2004 (unless you consider Korakaki in 2016 a surprise)! Usually our Olympic surprises are painful losses, they are very rarely unexpected medal! Also our first judo medal since London 2012
  12. No one cares about this tournament? Or people will start caring once the group stage is over? We beat today and qualified already for the quarterfinals with 2 games left in the group stage. Hopefully we can keep winning so we can get a better draw for the QF.
  14. Solid morning for us with all 3 swimmers advancing to the semifinals. Hoping for at least one of our guys in the 200 backstroke to make the final.
  15. 3 finals for us, the most ever Hopefully, Ntouskos can add a 4th tomorrow but it's going to be very difficult. Who would've thought that possibly the only one to miss out would be the reigning Olympic champion?! I'm hoping for a medal but it will be tough, maybe one of our crews can sneak a bronze. The two lightweight doubles will be in Lane 2 so maybe it's possible.
  16. Gionis' run ends I hope to see him try again for 2028, it will be his 7th Olympics which will be the most of any Greek in any sport.
  17. After yesterday's disappointment with Sakkari who totally choked, Tsitsipas gives Greek tennis fans something to cheer about as he advances to the quarterfinals! Unfortunately, his next opponent will likely be Djokovic...
  18. I can't believe it And she had like 15-20 family members come, her immediate family and all of her cousins, aunts, uncles... Based on her family, their jobs, and where they are from/live she probably grew up poor so I'm sure this was a big deal for the whole family to go to Paris just to be disappointed...
  19. A win is a win, but not convincing for us to win on penalties over Montenegro...
  20. Imagine saying this after winning 11 medals after Day 4
  21. All 4 of our boats into the semifinals, hopefully some of them can make the finals
  22. Personally I can't think of any good memories from Olympic fencing, especially women's sabre! In London we had Vougiouka in QF with a big lead and then got injured and couldn't breathe and ended up losing to the eventual gold medalist. Then we had Georgiadou not qualifying for Paris despite being number 3 in the world, in a year where FIE changed the qualification rules for some but not others, and also gave everyone and their mother a wildcard but not Georgiadou. Then we have Gkountoura make the quarterfinals and this happens. The only thing that will make this all okay is if we qualify for the team event for 2028 and win a medal, otherwise fencing to me will mean nothing...
  23. I don't think @Tedwas accusing Manon of actually cheating, hence the quotations. The thing is there were questionable calls which went against Dora, especially at the end. Dora was crying on Greek TV after and said "I don't like to use the refereeing as an excuse, I think that's the weak excuse, but I think some hits were wrong and it should have at least gone to 14-14." Her coach was not as kind, he said "This wasn't injustice, this was a scandal! It was at least 6 points, the match should've ended 15-9 in our favour. What happened today was she played against a French woman, we beat the previous one, now we played with another one, she had to win. It was very clear today's match. It's a massive injustice. It's a pity that some people are playing with the work and the blood and sweat of these children. It's a sin."
