  8. I’m guessing more people took time off over the summer.
  9. We all have some serious catching up to do before the Omloop next weekend starts the proper season. Tour of Oman Provence Assorted Spanish one days Andalucia Algarve Alpes-Maritimes United Arab Emirates (starting today) Probably more.
  10. Would have been cancelled in any other context. Well, there is only one other context.
  11. very proud to beat always a big target for us.
  12. Hey, if she wanted a place in one of the hardest races in history she’s welcome to it!
  13. That was a foolish move in retrospect; could easily have become No 1 in the “Most spectacular Olympic Failures” highlights reel.
  14. Managed to sleep clean through it. Got up at 3:30 & flipped through. Well done ! Had been flaky all tournament & had to rely on the DSC to get out of the Group at all. But they definitely played their best Curling in those three sudden-death games & were never in much danger in the final. That Hotel in Stranraer is going to need to an emergency drink delivery on Monday morning.
  15. Thing was it was so obviously a set-up for an Omega sponsors’ freebie. Anyway, both biathlon & make the US technical press! https://petapixel.com/2022/02/16/olympic-photographer-catches-bullets-in-mid-air-with-the-sony-alpha-1/
  16. Hoping to watch the Curling Finals at 01:00 local. Have slept through my last four or five alarms. In fact, I was worried there was something wrong with my phone & tested it this morning. Nope….
  17. Unusual one here. Well, unusual for, just a rite of passage for . A sprinter who represented Ireland in the Olympics has been given a suspended sentence for allowing his flat to be used to produce crack cocaine. Leon Reid, 27, of Longmead Terrace in Bath, was sentenced to 21 months, suspended for 18 months, and 220 hours unpaid work by a judge at Bristol Crown Court on Friday. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-60445366
  18. Needed them, Sweden were looking at a big score. In the event 1
  19. It was 18 ends. Not sure what Sweden’s tactics were after the first ten or so.
  20. The BBC & British Eurosport are both interviewing fans in the same hotel bar in Stranraer,
  21. When you say “legitimate concerns that Qazaqstan* would be able to deliver the Games” you do of course mean “whether Qazaqstan was as authoritarian as China” * Did anyone else notice that during the Opening Ceremony that Kazakh athletes were waving “Qazaqstan” flags? I anticipate a Stalinesque national renaming campaign coming soon.
  22. got two! If we convert both to Gold - which I rate at 60/40 - that will be something we have never done before
  23. I know that Alex Tilley was skiing on an ankle she broke in October, so I’m guessing that is it. As you say, it was a legit medal chance for us with so many big names already back home.
  24. Anyone know what Regez’ connection with is? ES Comms have mentioned it a few times & he is a dual national. By his name, I’m guessing an English mother.
  25. Welcome. I have no doubt there are bribes & corruption, but in this case China got the Games because of a scandal in Norway (the logical candidate) related to the excessive demands of the IOC for luxury hotels, private jets, limos etc. However the problems we have this time are because IOC President Thomas Bach (Gold Medal, Fencing, 1976*) is a foolish egotistical man - not very corrupt in the normal sense - who thinks he is a globe-trotting international diplomat whose mission is to bring Peace to the World. And not what he is, a sports bureaucrat whose job it is to stage the best possible sporting competition - which is, in itself, a very worthy goal. Unfortunately this petty vanity means the world’s least attractive leaders find him very easy to manipulate * Running gag we have here.
