  1. Had a very strange career. Was really considered a decent but second rank player prior to 1990. Became a global superstar in 1990. After 1990........went back to being a decent but second rank player again.
  2. Plenty of 2G phones on the market still, will cost you about $20. Or a bit more with the special falafel sauce.
  3. The story calls it a 60 year old technology - the first real fax machine predates cinema! But yeah, as I thought, German laws on signature authentication are more rigorous than ours. I bought my flat with a phone call, signed a few days later.
  4. No need to ask which brand of pagers, though.
  5. Really? How odd. I remember they were a great wonder at my work when we started using them in the late 80s, but even by about the mid 90s they were sitting in dusty, forgotten corners. I guess there must be some legal requirement. Or maybe Germans are just nostalgic for the whole Berlin Wall / Scorpions / Rudi Voller's haircut era.
  6. OK, so now Hezbollah have to go back to communicating by....[checks Wikipedia]....fax machine. Thousands hurt by exploding pagers across Lebanon, health minister says - BBC News
  7. Will be strange having someone who's never been a Gold Medallist in anything doing the job, but will save a lot of pixels in the captions.
  8. Haven't been joining in these discussions because I wasn't optimistic about this because I know that both the & the Governments are broke right now, Good news is that it looks like these Australian guarantees are going to mean it goes ahead in some form. Glasgow set to host 2026 Commonwealth Games - BBC News
  9. Jakob Ingebritsen's Half Marathon debut in Copenhagen was not really an roaring success. I'm sure he'll put a bit more planning into it next time. He set a 10k road record on the way, but seems to have turned down the thermometer after that. Sawe and Kipkemboi claim Copenhagen Half Marathon crowns | REPORTS | World Athletics
  10. I am sure I have read somewhere that drowning is a common form of death in the Sahara. When rain does fall, there is lots of bare rock, so it produces very rapid flash floods that can sweep away unwary travellers.
  11. Wow, talk about a roller-coaster for !
  12. What's that you say? Ingebritsen making his Half Marathon debut in on Sunday? Does anyone have a li.... Yes. https://worldathletics.org/videos
  13. Richardson gave that up very early.
  14. Easy MR for Mondo......what now...... Handshakes all round, off to sample the Trappisten....
  15. Didn't even take off her track suit, no more eloquent way of saying "I couldn't care less"
  16. Seems the Womens' is off but there are Mens' Competitions both tomorrow & Sunday. On Discovery.
  17. Some good stuff apart from Brussels this weekend. People of course wanting to get their World Championships Quals nailed early. Decastar Combined Events from France ADEM Decastar - YouTube And the Sydney Marathon on Saturday night, European time on Discovery Plus - upgraded to Platinum Level for the first time ever. And the Cross Country Season starts - English National Champs on Saturday.
  18. More Triathlon World Cup this weekend, this time from Valencia , on Saturday. Live FTA on YT again. World Triathlon - YouTube
  19. And we have another summer event coming this weekend! Don't recall ever having this one before, but the Dresden City Biathlon on Sunday 15th September - will be on Eurovision Sport. Scheduled for 6 hours of action with para and Junior races. Eurovision Sport | City Biathlon Dresden 2024 Main fields are high quality. Athleten - City Biathlon Dresden (city-biathlon.com)
  20. Can't wait to hear our generic rugby commentators on the Olympic Channel getting to grips with that lot.
  21. Start lists and timetables for Brussels on Friday and Saturday. Sydney McLaughlin is squeezed in between the Wheelchair Races and the Flemish U-13 Girls 100m Exhibition. Program 2024 (diamondleague.com)
  22. Any word about TV Coverage? Discovery has the five senior races as normal, but no sign of the age group races. Locked away on Belgian payTV?
  23. Ah good, was wondering what the relationship of Endurance Rowing was to Coastal Rowing. They're wimping out a bit holding it at Genoa though, would prefer somewhere a bit more storm-tossed.
  24. Judging always takes two or three minutes in these competitions - longer even for possible medal runs - for reasons above, so just saying DNI is a way of saying it's not worth comparing a fall on the third hit to a fall on the fourth hit since neither are going to affect the overall.
  25. Scoring in all these events is a bit strange as they are not judging a pre-defined move to an absolute standard, as happens in diving, gymnastics etc, but are constantly shuffling around trying to score riders relative not only to each other, but to that riders' previous runs earlier in the competition and qualifying.
