  1. Choong drags himself up into 9th. As feared though, was just never able to recover from the fencing yesterday.
  2. That's just weird though. You would like the appearance of being competitive briefly - and then coming comprehensively last - than being competent and coming higher up the field? I'm not disputing that it was bad from GB. I don't think it was ever going to be anything more than average at best anyway, but even with that I still think it was not good. But that's very different from being "shameful".
  3. Do you know that they had no intention of going for a medal, rather than just being outclassed? Are you privy to their tactics? Incidentally, we saw the Austrians attack early. They even won both a lap and a sprint. How did that work out for them?
  4. I mean that's just objectively not true. Ignoring the impact that losing Hayter might have had to the team's plans, this field is stacked. And even it we think that it is a bad showing, it still doesn't make it 'shameful'.
  5. They lost only to a Botswana team which are absolutely a threat to medal. It wouldn't at all be a shock if the top 3 from that SF (Botswana, GB and the US) ended up the 3 medalists.
  6. Yes Caden! Taekwondo really should have more weight classes at the games. It's one of the most well run events in my opinion. Quick and well regulated. Give the boxing classes to it instead.
  7. Aussies are too far ahead and you would suspect that the Japanese might get more wrestling. The old foes are probably the biggest target...
  8. Sounds suspiciously like cover. Why then let him go in the omnium at all if they knew about it?
  9. Charley Hull regretting that the golf doesn't allow you to do a sailing and discard your worst round.... Finishes +1 over par which isn't anything special but when you realise that she was +9 over after round 1 it was a solid recovery! Had she been even par in that round she would have been sat in second right now. Not to be however.
  10. When you consider that there's 2 classes being mashed into this the seeding is always likely to throw up some weird results, I guess. Both she and the Uzbeki were silver at the worlds last year. So a bit weird that they were 3 and 6. I suspect Bianca being married to Aaron probably never helps her case...
  11. I was trying desperately to work out if dampner was a word.
  12. I didn't honestly see it happening! I'm grateful that the other half of my post did not happen though. A mass drowning would have...put a bit of a downer on events. So to speak.
  13. I mean in fairness to McGowan she earned the spot with her results.
  14. McGowan being outclassed by the Uzbeki. Will have to hope she gets through to the final for a shout at bronze.
  15. Even if he misses out now, those last 2 dives have been clutch.
  16. 4th round of the diving has probably put paid to any chance of a medal. Williams still with a chance in theory but will require 2 great dives and mistakes from others. Kothari would require most of the others to...well...drown.
  17. He gets the Ivorian who beat Muhammad in the dying seconds in Rio for gold. It's a tough draw but there's a chance. Either way, he'll get a bronze match later if he doesn't do a Sinden (did his MCL apparently). Edit - I say all that before realising that I'm assuming that Cisse beats the American. Which he hasn't done yet. American will probably steal it at the death...
  18. We could win several, we could win none of them. Finucane is the one, if pushed, that I would say is most likely but she's still young. It's not guaranteed.
  19. Heinze did not go quicker than Finucane. Friedrich did.
  20. We could finish as low as 10th on golds for sure, if everything goes sideways. Does it really matter? Only if we let it matter. If we were in 10th with 30 medals, sure it would need a *very* thorough investigation. But being 10th with around 60 medals shows a system that basically works but just didn't have the results on the day. That's sport. If nothing else changes in terms of funding, I would be more confident that our performance would be repeatable than some other countries.
  21. Sad to see Megan so obviously off form in the 10k, but well done to her for keeping going when the easier thing would have been to just DNF. And fair play to Eilish for comforting her.
  22. I mean they won 13 more points in sprints than any other country (and 3 more pts than they got in the WC last year that they won). So I'd say that they prepared pretty well myself... In other news, rumours abound about a protest against the British women's sprinters. In happier news, that's KJT's 2nd best ever heptathlon by my reckoning, behind only Doha 2019. A fine performance and great to get the monkey off her back about no Olympic medals.
