  1. It's fascinating comparing the heat times to Tokyo. Nobody went quicker than a 3:45 there. But then they went crazy in the SFs and started dropping 3:42s. And crashing into each other, obviously.
  2. Surprised at the Italians there. That being said, still glad we've avoided them in the SF.
  3. The Danes falling off the time there is big. Puts us into the 2 v 3 matchup, which is slightly better than being in the 1 v 4 matchup, although obviously both SFs are going to be super competitive.
  4. Yeah, that was my biggest takeaway from those heats as well.
  5. Dear lord, everyone's miserable aren't they? Getting silver and a bronze in events which are pot luck is a good thing, not something to be sad about.
  6. She did do her roll quite late; the commentators I have called that live.
  7. With bouldering there are sections with a number of points (5, 10 and 25). You have 5 minutes on each route. You get the number of points based on the highest section you reached. However, the number of attempts you take to get there impacts it. You lose 0.1 for each attempt. So getting to the 25 section in one go gets you 25 points. But if you get there on go 3, you get 24.8. Solid performances from Toby especially and Hamish this morning. All on the lead now.
  8. In this time of technological wonders, let us also give praise to the Olympic system that can identify the difference between Lyles and Thompson down to thousandths of a second, but relies of the eyesight of judges to work out if shooters hit their targets or not. Le sigh.
  9. Haven't checked back historically, but Reekie's time there was quicker than any of the SFs in Tokyo. Even with technology, that's crazy.
  10. She shouldn't have tried to go with Duguma. Left herself too wide and with too little for the home straight. That being said, did not see some of those other performances coming around her. To run 1:58.01 and come 5th is crazy. She's going to miss the final by one spot. Keely getting the job done.
  11. My hope is that Nowicki and Morgan push each other. Could be a solid 1-2 punch.
  12. Worth noting that Qin split 57.9. So in that game of "what ifs" Adam, still comes second...
  13. Just my personal opinion, but I'm less bothered than most whether we beat France or Australia. At least in terms of golds. I'd prefer it if we can beat them in total number of medals. Both have some in-built advantages here compared to us, in my opinion. France obviously have the home crowds and host quotas. Australia don't have the crowds, but do have some advantage through the global qualification setup. I'm more interested if we beat/match our own medal totals and top 8s from the last 3 games. If we do that, we will continue to be in rude health as an Olympic nation for me.
  14. Welcome to road cycling sprint coverage. A good 5th for Georgi. She just didn't have the legs on the last climb. No shame in that given the competition.
  15. I doubt Vas fancies her chances with the other 3!
  16. It was the right call. Borghini and Kopecky started playing games. Best to steal a march and hope you can stay away. Fair play to Vas, perfect for Marianne to have a willing worker with her.
  17. Because she was trying to keep that group motivated. Kopecky/Vos/Borghini were starting to play games. Which meant that they were losing their lead. Which is why Henderson and Deignan had caught the group back up. Georgi was always the most likely medalist but they are trying to either break other riders/keep ahead of the like of Dygart behind.
  18. Suddenly the NBC way of medal tables looks a whole lot better, right?
  19. It's in line with their "we want a clear winner" policy of putting one race finals in etc. It's a bit weird though that it applies only for gold and silver and not for bronze as well, in my book. If you can win one medal on bib number, it would be logical to be able to win any medal on it. And vice versa. I suspect more than anything they are just trying to avoid multiple shoot offs in the final. The fine margins between our G column going up and only our S.
  20. I mean there was no controversy on the other shot, so I get why they focused on the replay. Shame, but fair play to the Chilean, she had been the class for most of the final. And Amber did have chances to seal it herself. It's just a shame that the officiating becomes a talking point at all. Not quite boxing level, but still.
  21. She went from +5 to +6 because she had 2 shots. One was clearly scored with the traditional "puff". The other, which was the narrow one, was not. The officials got it wrong.
  22. I know. I was making a joke/film reference that Amber had beaten the American. Fair play to the American, that's one of the best responses to a bronze I've seen all week.
