  1. Jakob's focus on Kerr cost them both there. Even in the last 200m he was drifting wider to block Kerr and not thinking about Hocker on the inside. Still, that's a new NR from Josh there. He ran his best race ever. All you can do sometimes.
  2. Unless something crazy happens I can't see it being anyone other than one of those 2. Neither Tim C or Nugese have looked great in rounds. Jakob can't win if it doesn't go hard, which likely rules out someone like Hocker who has the best finish but probably won't be close enough. Then it is a question of which of Kerr or Jakob is in the best shape. Shame for Lina there, she was on the verge of smashing her PB but obviously was at her limit. Again, like Charlie, potentially good for our relay chances even if disappointing for her!
  3. Charlie's probably regretting not going for the mixed now... On the selfish plus side for the team chances, it means one less race in his legs. He probably should be in both heat and final of the relay. Matt should get the heat off.
  4. Do we even need to bother with the final ? You guys can have the gold, we'll have the silver and then we can all save our legs a bit for the other events.
  5. I dunno why everyone is worried about the Aussies. This entirely neutral medal table I found has us way clear of them...
  6. It's not the fact that the fall itself was bad but more the fact that it was the shoulder that she's already got issues with that took the brunt of it! Accumulative damage and all that. She's a tough cookie alright though.
  7. Was wincing just looking at her fall. Creditable performance from Lola as well.
  8. The results from the various SFs will likely come into play as well. The relay heat is the morning of the same day as the individual final. You have to assume that if any of our 3 get to the final, they definitely won't be in the heat. The 400m H final is the night before. If Lina were to get to that, might make a heat run for her slightly less likely. I'd expect both Yemi and Nicole to be in the heat lineup. As you say, coaches would likely want to see where they are at split wise to join 'the big 3'.
  9. Yemi probably in with a shout as well. I'd have her comfortably ahead of Jessie right now. Would be shocked if Jessie was used in anything but an emergency given her form this year.
  10. I'd go in order as you have them in terms of likelihood, yeah. I don't think any of them are completely without hope (both Kyle and Noah have been in the top 7 at each of the last 2 worlds) but it would be a pleasant shock if any of them would medal. Whereas Andrea or Jack medalling wouldn't be a shock.
  11. The injury to Katie arguably makes the TP the most 'disposable' of the women's endurance events for me, so I'm fine if they've decided the same and put all their eggs in the other baskets. Bit more worried as you say if it is an indicator of form (unless Jess is on a tear of course!)
  12. I'm going to guess that can at least partially because Australia are helped by the qualification system guaranteeing a certain number of slots in tournaments to each continent, whereas we have to fight through a bunch of European teams who are better than us to even have a shot at qualifying for those play-in tournaments.
  13. What a legend that man is. Also, I love that Kendricks was leading the cheerleading. Great when the athletes are each other's supporter.
  14. I mean, she *did* pull her back by the arm. You can't do that. If she had just barged her a bit more, she'd probably have got away with it. But I agree that Tsegay was the cause of it. She was trying to cut in when there wasn't really space. Whatever Faith did was going to have some negative reaction to her. She just chose probably the worst option she could.
  15. Well it was a slim day for medal chances in terms of pure numbers, but it was one of those days when they were all very good chances and, sure enough, all of them came off! 5 chances, 5 medals. Cracking stuff.
  16. Only team faster each round as well, which suggests a well coached and confident team. That final performance was supreme.
  17. Like Finucane, Carlin seems to be in decent form here, at least from that early evidence.
  18. How much quicker than everyone else do we think the Dutch will be here?
  19. Ah scratch that, just checked and actually I had us 2nd in my final predictions behind the Germans. Had upgraded us from 3rd in my very early predictions a few months ago.
  20. And breathe. I'll be honest, I had us 3rd even with Emma in there. So we're already a place higher than I expected. 0.029 between a race for bronze and the guaranteed medal we have now. Eeesh. Germans must be fuming.
  21. It's fascinating comparing the heat times to Tokyo. Nobody went quicker than a 3:45 there. But then they went crazy in the SFs and started dropping 3:42s. And crashing into each other, obviously.
