I’m not really impressed by any of the IBSF’s qualification systems. The change I’d suggest would be to switch to to ranking based allocations for multiple sleds. For example, if you have 3 sleds in the top 15 of the world ranking, then you can have three sleds. If you have two sleds in the top 25, then you can have two sleds. Otherwise, you get one sled.

Well, Spring has a big chance to improve his 7th best result (45 points from Innsbruck 2). Stulnev is within reach.
And seeing how Spring is currently ranked 12th at WC, I hope he'll do really well in St. Moritz.

Huge upset at the US trials.. Erin Jackson had a slip on the backstretch and finishes outside of the top 2 for the 500m. She will miss the Olympics barring some crazy circumstance

well I mostly write comments about sports I'm more informed about. but it doesn't mean I don't follow other sports. I just read others comments and learn from them. I love watching sports in general. major competitions though, not all the World Cups.
if I'm not wrong since 2006 (the first time I watched the WOG) I didn't miss a single final. I think I'm more interested in Alpine, Biathlon, Figure skating, even Curling and Short Track
the only winter sport I have hard time to enjoy is Ice Hockey (and maybe Nordic Combined, I don't know why that even exists) I tried to watch and like Ice hockey but it's just not my taste I still watch the gold medal match.

If Almaty was given the WOG none of the current prostests would have happened IMO. Hell, Nazarbiev would still be the President and would delay all the backlash until after the Games.
Anyway, it's another PR win for China as suddenly they can point to other countries having major internal issues. And obviously the liberal democracy lobbyists won't do anything about people shot dead in Kazakhstan. This country isn't important enough to fight a political battle over it after all

Almaty is the one who put in a good bid. Probably the last good bid for the Winter Olympics.
Oslo did nothing.

Kazakhstan should have been selected.
And I highly doubt there would have been any riots now if they had got selected. The IOC takes some of the blame here.

Crucial race weekend is coming up in Igls for Trang Tran Thi Doan.
There are only 12 names on the start list, but Trang still needs to beat as many names as possible, and especially Andreutti in the head-to head battle. It will be hard, but not impossible.

They literally hire most writers from India (cheap labour) that probably don't know anything about the sport lmao

Someone inside IIHF apparently either smoke too much weird things or just have some fetish to come always and always with plane stupid ideas. Seriously, sometime I do not know what is wrong with some people in this world lately
According to this

there some IIHF officials discussing about replacing the M Hockey tournament in Beijing by the Juniors tournament (as compensation for the kids for the U20 Worlds cancellation) ... well, CAN & USA would be obviously absolutely all for this I assume, CHN well...not really I guess lol
Some people ideas and inventions... I swear

Watch Kramer win the mass start from a speculative breakaway just to mess with all of us.

Sad for Ntab and Snel, but yeah....this is the result of a system like this and simply having too much quality overall
Although the reason for Kramer's mass start selection is somewhat laughable, to say the least: "A big name like Kramer entering the Olympic mass start might 'startle' the other riders."
Sure. Granddad without his final sprint will surely scare the likes of Swing, Giovannini, Chung, Lee or Mantia

Does not look good at all here. at all. with the ice hockey team very probably missing the olympics for the very first time in history, many recent retirement in different sports, endless idiotic war behind the backstages among our skiing associations resulting in the ban of our skiing federation...
It is going to be the smallest delegation ever for us, I will be surprised if we will send more than 10 athletes to Beijing.(and even 10 is a it ambitious, I am affraid).. quite embarassing for a 80 % mountainous country, but yeah, this is what we deserve I guess....
In other hand, it may still be paradoxically the most successful WOG in history for us, Petra Vlhová baring injury and finding her top form next February
