I don't know where else to post this but Canada has been upgraded to a bronze medal in the 4x200m freestyle relay at Tokyo 2020. China got DQ'd over a doping violation. This brings the total medal count to 25 and Summer McIntosh now has an Olympic medal

Ethan Katzberg with the meet of his life at the Kip Keino Classic. By a fucking mile. Before today his PB in men’s hammer throw was 81.25m at the 2023 World Championships, where he became a surprise World Champion. Starts off with 81.79m in R1, then 82.06m in R2, 81.50m in R4, 84.38m (!! yes you heard me right) in R5, and 83.26m in R6. That’s 5 marks under his previous PB (the other one was a foul), and a 3.13m improvement. Edit: Also moves him to #9 on the all-time list, none of the athletes above him are still competing. Not to mention he’s only 21 (!) years old, in an event where athletes don’t peak until later on in their career. @intoronto @Topicmaster1010 @james89 @orangeman @NearPup

  15. 6/8 NPCs qualifying for both tournaments is quite a lot. Unfortunately, this is the price for reducing the number of quotas from previous editions.

  18. 1) The France which played last week games and the France which will be at the worlds are 2 completely different galaxies. is waiting for the answers of their 2 NHLers extremely experienced and very good center Pierre-Edouard Bellemare and also a solid striker and highest ever french drafted in NHL Alex Texier (even if him being now at end of contract make him questionable to accept the invitation for the worlds though) + now Da Costa (one of the best ever french players of all times) they will also add 5-6 interesting names like Auvitu or Jordan Perret. and who know how is the situation with the Canadian born Spinozzi who is working on french papers for 2 years now and still waiting... No, I can see this french team doing some damages and battle even for the quarterfinals. 2) Quarterfinals definitely is a must. Whichever team we send the quarters are always the goal. Mandatory. Only Based on that the tournament is then the tournament evaluated as successful or unsuccessful. If we make the last 8 it is fine, if we do not make it it is a failure. This time we will face quite strong opposition. we have a tough group, and both last time medalists will arrive still influenced by their last year magic journey and would want to confirm it. as already mentioned can be the real deal this year in the quarters places battle, each team which will beat them will have a good plus to its account. will be probably the favorite for gold. The roster they are already building is just scarey. is clearly the other fav of the group. USA and Sweden should earn the first 2 places without too much problems. So there 2 more QF spots which we should play for against LAT, GER and FRA. The other 2 teams are dangerous too though. is a team which quite regularly cause us troubles (last year they beat us and that was the cause we missed the quarterfinals and direct qualification for the Olympics) and is promoted in the elite for the first time since 2002... so you can imagine how much motivated they will be to show that they are not here by mistake, I guess no team will have an easy game against them (maybe apart USA...) and their first line is quite strong plus with a solid goaltending anything can happen and upsets are definitely not so out of reach. So you see, this group will be very strong and open, but, let see the final roster each team will send and after that we can make better predictions

  19. Great day for China and India after a poor first day. North Korea also picks up three quotas, but still stings about losing the -50kg quota. They'll have a chance at the final world qualifier. So the overall women's quotas going into the final world qualifier are as follows - 6 - 4 - 4 - 3 - 3 - 3 - 1 Relative to 2020, Kazakhstan hasn't had much luck so far while Mongolia may go from having a full team to half the size.

  20. This is UWW after all, you shouldn't ask for logic I wrote something about it during the African qualifiers. they want to have a true 3rd place finisher in case something happens to top 2. they do it only for weights with 6 or 7 entries (two groups format) but this is funny because per rules. if less than 8 wrestlers participate. there will be no reallocation and if someone withdraws (or something else) the quota transfers to become a wild card.

    Diving WA World Cup 2024

Great result for the new pairing in the men's 3m synchro, now Osmar Olvera with Juan Celaya who placed 4th in Tokyo at this event. But now a big controversy is coming about the situation of who will be competing in Paris with Osmar? the organising body that rules aquatic sports in Mexico already announced that Osmar & Rodrigo Diego were the selected divers for the Olympics in the synchro event, BUT given Rodrigo slowly but steady going downhill with bad competitions and a bit of a mental struggle state in the last months, now they decided to change and give a try with Juan Celaya. This pairing with Celaya makes their debut and what a result, a big 420 points total and lots of improvement in the synchronised part of course. What will happen? kick out Rodrigo? but they already selected him, now how they tell him sorry but no, we take back. Rodrigo could challenge this of course but in al fairness if he is struggling he could sacrifice his spot and let Celaya take the better opportunity. I dont want a scandal with this situation to affect mexican aspirations on this event at Paris, for me the 3m synchro is the biggest chance to get a medal among with Osmar individually wining at least the bronze.
