  1. just asking myself why in this competition are there people that already achieved the qualification (and therefore can't get any other quota place) and/or why tare there those mixed team events that don't award any quota place? nor those events award points for the OQR/WR, therefore are absolutely useless for those who are not in the hunt for a quota place and actually only make a lot of confusion

  8. This is devastating. Yulimar Rojas is one of my fav athletes. Had a nice photo with her in Budapest. As always this is the worst part of these last months before Olympics - almost everyday news on who will miss the games due to injury… ☹️

  13. As much as I am a fan of world taekwondo for creating a interesting sport with clear rules and easy to follow for the viewer, I have to say that their qualification system is one of the worst. Personally I don’t think there should be a limit on the number of athletes who can qualify for a team. Imagine being the 6th ranked fighter in the world and not qualifying because there are 2 other athletes in different weight classes are higher ranked for you. And this one is a gripe which can be applied to other sports as well. The Individual neutral Athletes are baisically a team, no matter how hard people try to spin it in neutrality. They even have their own flag, so surely these limits on athletes participation should apply to them, but they don’t. And on a side note their website is appalling.

  15. this is getting interesting https://uww.org/article/uww-sets-two-independent-panels-review-chamizo-bayramov-bout if you ask me Chamizo's 300.000 dollars claim is a lie. I mean maybe someone in the arena really told him such a thing but if you accuse like this you have to give a name, who offered this ? just a random kid in Baku ? I just can't believe they are willing to pay this much for a piece of crap like Bayramov just to win a quota. (which most probably won't be turned into a medal anyway) Cuban wrestlers had a long history of accepting bribes. but Chamizo is not representing Cuba anymore and even Cubans never do it when it comes to the Olympics. it's very interesting they claim they are going to review that "challenge decision" are they going to throw Cicioglu under the buss ? but he made a big mistake, I'm not talking about the call, that wasn't a mistake, that was intentional cheating . but the mistake was doing it under the spotlight, against someone like Chamizo. that didn't worth it, CIcioglu exposed himself and maybe this time he is going to pay. still it's hard for me to predict the outcome. but I won't be surprised if they somehow give a quota to Chamizo without taking Bayramov's

And and the only time I have interacted with Fujisawa, short by the coffe machine at a hotel breakfast she seemed like a very sweet person. Homan a bit more difficult to get close to and get a picture of while I mer her but such a great player!

  22. Also want to mention, the friendship between Jennifer Jones and Team Fujisawa is so heartwarming. They were of course at the game watching, cheering on their curling idol. I’d imagine there were a lot of hugs shared between them afterwards. Wish her all the best in the future! And of course she’s not done with curling yet, she’ll still be competing in mixed doubles with her husband Brett Laing. This video was taken at the Beijing 2022 Olympics. In particular, right after the last session concluded, and the moment she found out that Japan would qualify for the semifinals instead of Canada. One of the many reasons why she’s one of my favourite curlers (and athletes in general)

If Pickrem swam that time in her leg of the relay in Tokyo, Canada would have gotten gold, OR and only 0.7 away from WR. Heck, that split gives her 4th in the 100m final at Tokyo. Amazing time in the middle of a 400 IM.

  40. Yeah, a mistake in the automatic calculation on the website was also my thought. Hard to confirm, because the Netherlands is the only team with a 22 point match, but a mistake in counting that extra point (which should of course count as it's a valid point) is the only explanation I can think of. Hopefully they'll fix it soon. Edit: now that I think of it, even if they fix it, it shouldn't change anything. Austria has 57, so should be ahead of the Netherlands anyway, whereas Switzerland has 55, but lost against the Netherlands, so should be 2nd anyway.

  45. Very happy with the qualification. It's our fourth team to qualify after both field hockeyteams and our waterpolo women. Hopefully we have a nice draw and can sneak into the semis of the handball tournament (but that will be very hard with teams like Denmark, Norway and France).

  47. CORRECTION: After a great spot from @Adriano, need to make a couple of changes Women's Endurance events Women's Team Pursuit: Confirmed Quotas: Women's Madison: Confirmed Quotas from Team Pursuit: Safe Individual Quotas: Missed out Denmark from initial post who are actually the safes of all the individual quotas! Anyhow, net effect is that there should be no contested quotas in the event. Women's Omnium: Confirmed Quotas from Team Pursuit: Expected Quotas from Madison: Safe Individual Quotas: Continental Quota: Contested Quotas: - 2015.50 ----------------- - 1854.50 Czechia have quite a high bar in order for them to be able to increase their points total as they would need to finish 9th or better but it's not any easier for Spain because although they have a lower discard score, in order to be able to overtake Czechia they would need to finish at least 10th. Czechia should therefore be safe for the final quota.

  48. Quick midweek update on some trials/national meets this week: Hungary Most of the highlights have already been mentioned by other users on the forum. However, one swim was missed. Yesterday in the men's 200 IM, Gabor Zombori swam 1:57.88 to beat his lifetime best by over a second. That swim gets him under the OQT needed for the Olympics. South Africa (After 3 of 6 days) Josh has already mentioned Schoenmaker's time. However, in the same race, Kaylene Corbett also went 2:23.71 to also confirm her ticket to Paris. She has been 2:22 in the qualification period at WUGS. Pieter Coetze also went 1:55.85 in the 200m backstroke to confirm his spot in Paris. Matt Sates has the OQT in the 200m butterfly but wasn't quite able to clear the OQT at this meet. However, I believe South Africa does accept OQT's from outside the national championships if no swimmer hits it there. New Zealand (After 3 of 5 days) Eve Thomas successfully added the 1500m freestyle to her event lineup to go alongside the 400m and 800m freestyles. She won in 16:07.46 to get under the OQT. Hazel Ouwehand established a New Zealand Record in the Women's 100m Butterfly. Her time of 57.43 gets her a ticket to Paris. Erika Fairweather has been in fine form going 1:55.45 and 4:02.35 in the 200 and 400m freestyles. She's already qualified in both events. Lewis Clareburt is already in fine form. He went 1:47.18 and 3:46.85 in the 200 and 400m freestyles. Both PB's and the latter is under the OCT. These set him up well for his better 200m butterfly and 200m IM events later in the meet where he is still hunting down the OQT's. Despite achieving the OQT at the 2023 World Championships, Andrew Jeffcoat is in danger of missing the Olympics. He already failed to hit the OQT in the 100m backstroke and has one more chance in the 200m backstroke here.
