  3. I must admit it wasn't easy... in some categories I had even too many names/events in mind that I found extremely difficult to choose only 6 (some times 7, thanks to a couple of ex-aequo) meanwhile in a few other categories I had the opposite problem, had to dig deep to find 6 really good options I also tried not to be so "obvious" when possible, but without being "extravagant" however, this is my effort for this year... 4. We should recognize some of the athletic achievements of members during these awards at some point. We've got people chasing Olympic qualification, running half marathons, setting PRs in the pool, etc. It might be fun to have a more inward category/honor at some point (maybe not even voted on, but just some acknowledgment during the ceremony for those bothering to turn off the livestreams and go do something)

  9. She was in power for a over decade. She made her own poor policy choices too. I'd caution that "telling the truth," and formulating policies that benefit the general public aren't the same thing. Milei "being honest" about the economic situation could be good a thing, but he still has to propose practical solutions to very real problems.

The top award ("olimpia de oro") for 2023 was shared between Belen Casetta (athletics, steeplechase, gold medal in pan american games) and Lionel Messi (for who knows what). Third win a row for Messi and fourth overall for him.

    [OFF TOPIC] Politics Thread

Don't know if the solutions he is taking are good or bad but it is intellectual dishonesty to blame Milei for hyperinflation. He has inherited a very weak economy and telling the public/investors/world the real state of the economy is a much needed first step and should be applauded. It is also a good step politically, as it shows your predecessors as bad and tries to put the blame for subsequent hardships on them. Now, let us see if he can come up with the more difficult work of practical solutions which will be politically bad as well.

Also schedulling needs to be improved (mainly Artistic Gymnastics ind apparatus finals) and in the end - a new medal table will be published. 30.

  33. They need 6 days for the rugby tournaments, so that slots in nicely at Stade de France before the athletics competition begins, especially since unlike pretty much any other Olympics, they're not using the stadium for the opening ceremony. The football tournament is spread out over the length of the Olympics, so they put that at Parc des Princes. I can't speak to French rugby, but I know they had the World Cup at Stade de France, so if they can get the big crowds there for the Olympics, it makes a lot of sense to have rugby there
