Without most of their Track and Field stars, suffered the biggest drop here in the rankings, as well as in gold and total medals percentage. all had their best Games ever, and I think some other nations too: . had a huge increase in the total number of medals, but failed to win more gold medals, which is certainly a bit disappointing for a host nation. They lost a staggering number of direct finals (14 out of 17), which would certainly help them in the ranking (they also were 8th in 2019). Even with a drop in medals, achieved a better ranking compared to Lima, which I think is a first for a previous host? Record number of nations that medaled in a single edition with 34, thanks in part to six NOCs that managed to win at least one medal after none in Lima: . Three nations that had at least one medal in 2019 did not win any this time: .

  4. 5th place in the +100kg for our Márius Fízeľ People will say meh... but it is a very nice result and we did not have anything close to that for ages in this sport, he is still relatively young so the still long transition period we will have to survive until the talented youth prospect Patrícia Tománková will come to shine on the worlds tatamis can be somehow survivable He is still fighting for the Paris continental quota, would be amazing if he´ll manage to succeed and obtain it. It is already 12 years Slovak Judo had no representatives at the Olympic Games, would be really nice to stop this droughts

  11. Results are in from Montelibretti and the South African eventing competitions from the weekend... Overall there are no big implications for the rankings, except in the Group F. Jessica George won the event in South Africa and now tops the Group F rankings, however South Africa will still have only one starter as Noor Slaoui did enough in Montelibretti to overtake Alexandra Munn on tie-break. Tough luck for Usman Khan who was in for the whole year, basically, but ends up as only the second reserve following an elimination in Montelibretti. History for Morocco as never before they had qualified in eventing. As there are no more events in Europe, these individual quotas are effectively confirmed now: Group A - Group B - Group C - @Vektor Group F - Group G - Overall -

  22. Looking at my optimistic predictions of gold medals for team Brasil, I almost matched the actual results in total numbers. While I'm happy with the results, I wish Brazil had won more gold medals in different sports, like Archery, Canoeing and Cycling. We did manage to win a medal in a sport we never won anything before (Baseball), so that's a positive, along with the unexpected gold medals in Wrestling. Won more gold medals than predicted +2 Athletics, Boxing, Judo, Gymnastics (Rhythmic), Tennis +1 Canoeing Slalom, Triathlon Matched the predictions Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Equestrian, Fencing, Football, Karate, Roller Skating (Artistic), Sailing, Skateboarding, Volleyball. Won less gold medals than predicted -1 Archery, Badminton, Canoeing Sprint, Cycling (BMX), Gymnastics (Artistic), Gymnastics (Trampoline), Open Water, Surfing, Swimming, Taekwondo, Table Tennis. Won gold medals that were not predicted +2 Wrestling +1 Rowing

    Pan American Games 2023

2 medals in the last day of the games completed the 36 medals won by team Ecuador in Santiago 2023, with a total of 7 Golds, 12 Silvers and 17 Bronzes. At the end Ecuador finished just short of the top 10 in the final tally by 1 gold, a couple of unlucky results especially in the first week like the injury of Tamara Salazar prior to her competition or very close losses in the final meters of the Road Cycling events were the main reason of missing the Top 10. However the team surpassed the goal of 30 medals, so the final outcome may be considered as a success overall. Gabi Vargas won yesterday her second medal here, this time a bronze after her silver from the 1km race a day earlier. And a dozen of minutes later María Arias brought the last medal of the team and concluded the participation of Ecuador at the games by this as well. 7 - 12 - 17 Medals of the Day Maria Loreta Arias, Inline Speed Skating W 500m Silver Gabriela Vargas, Inline Speed Skating W 10 000m Elimination Race Bronze

  33. You're right - it was an absolute horror show for although some of the guys did get some pretty tough draws. Will ignore the women because I still think we are well placed to qualify in 5 of the weight classes and have realistic medal prospects in both Giles and Renshall (She wasn't at the Euros after picking up injury in Zagreb). On the women's side, I would probably be most disappointed for Nekoda Smythe-Davis who had to fight for her place in the squad and wasn't able to take advantage of the opportunity. Had high hopes for Sam Hall to do well as he has had some decent form over the last couple of weeks, but he drew 4th seed Khyar in the 1st round which was always going to be difficult. I just wish he and Charlie Young had been reversed in the draw because I think Hall could have had the beating of Garcia Torne but that could just be wishful thinking. Both Petgrave and Moorhead need to get their s**t together and start banking some points PDQ or they will see their potential quota places disappearing quicker than Usain Bolt. On a side note, was very surprised that Olympics.com site was suggesting that Wesley Greenidge (+100Kg) was one of the British athletes to watch as a potential qualifier for Paris. He is so far off the pace that the suggestion that he could qualify is almost laughable.

  35. Teams qualfied to OQTs (ordered by world ranking): We'll probably know who will play in each tournament tomorrow or during the next week but FIH rarely ever does real draws, they always use serpentine system for every competition so... one can try to deduct the line ups with it (one tournament with the teams ranked 1, 4, 5, etc, the other with 2, 3, 6, 7..).

  37. A very strange link to the the Olympic Games here. The Irish politician is Boyd Barrett of the People Before Profit party. His mother is the actress SInead Cusack, was born when she was a teenager and was adopted by another couple. Many years later his mother married British actor Jeremy Irons who played IOC president Avery Brundage in the film "Race" about Jesse Owens.

  41. If Finland gains a team, then Ireland stands to get an individual reallocation. If it goes to Portugal, then Italy would profit. Other than that, battle for the individual quotas is mostly decided. Only will likely overtake both by the end while will do everything to try to overtake .

  42. Individual qualification simulation for dressage as of October 31st... Group A - Group B - Group C - Group D&E - Group F - Group G - Overall - Group F team quota is almost certainly getting reallocated to a composite team. Current ranking (sum of the top 3 riders' rankings) is as follows: 261 273 352 397 430 476 Finland though has a lot of room to improve, more so than Portugal.

    Santiago 2023
