  1. I was hoping to see they crown Tommy B as the lifelong king of IOC. he shouldn't be just IOC's president, he should be the King. I mean he acts like a true dictator, why not giving him a throne

  4. I was building a relationship with IFAF at the time, so I spent more time at that venue than any other in Birmingham (inline skating being a close second given my personal interests). I must admit I wasn't impressed by the format. I played flag football (8-a-side) growing up, and I think the format we played allowed for more creative plays than the IFAF format. I'd have to watch some replays to remember my full thoughts on the format though.

  10. No... There were many program changes submitted to the IOC, but beach rowing was the only one approved. I'm sure if there are any event changes still on the table though. Paddleboarding (SUP) events will probably be locked out of the Games until the ICF/ISA dispute over the discipline calms down.

  11. I think any sport is much more established there in USA, and in any other country, than Breaking. They had to arrange an entire sytem of pontuation, competitions and explain to the dancers what is to be an athlete. I know many of you are not fan of it, but I think it's a little unfair to pick it to an Olympic event, and cut it off before even the athletes step in it. The same applies to what happened to Karate, and may happen which some of these new sports to the next Olympics. Btw, my opinion about those new sports Lacrosse - What can I say? I believe if you ask to a Brazilian what this is, they may not know that it's a sport. And, as I saw some posts before, looks this will be a 6-team competiton, like Flag Football, Baseball/Softball and Cricket. That's a terrible decision, and make the competition even more uninteresting for those people from countries where it's not so popular. I don't know if Lacrosse will survive until the next cycle. Flag Football - So, it could be good for Brazil. We took part in the last World Games, and if I am not wrong, we finished in 4th position. In Brazil, American Football is very popular, we may even have some NFL matches in our soil in the next years. So, this could help to improve our performance, but, again, 6-team competition... Also, I have never watched this kind of competition, and I have seen it might be quite boring to watch. I think you have watched a little bit of it @Olympian1010, what do you think? Cricket - So, Brazilian women's team isn't so bad, but 6-team competition... Anyway, I think it's deserved to a very popular sport for so many people take part at Olympics Baseball/Softball - I like these sports, and for me they would be in the official list of Olympic Sports. I know that venues are always a problem for the hosts, and the high number of quotas used by them, but they look very olympic for me. I just don't understand why always Baseball for men, and Softball for women, on this way they will never improve the opposite genre in each discipline. Squash - The most deserved among all of these. They have been trying to join it for so long, and finally the rewards. I hope they can keep it for a long period. Also, do you think we are going to have big changes on some events? I have seen someone commenting about changes in Rowing events. Do you expect a new discipline from any IF? For instance, I think ISA would love to add paddle events on it.

  18. most likely, they will get back to a shorter version of the old fencing round (being the athletes divided in smaller groups for the semis and the final, it wouldn't take much time to have a single round robin...with 12-(wo)man groups, it's only 11 rounds of 1 minute-match on 6 pistes, let's say 55 mins in total)

  23. Gaby Schloesser is still active in archerg and aiming for Paris 2024 as far as I know. Sadly Steve Wijler on the mens side hasn't had great resultd the past year I believe, so I'm not sure we can medal in mixed doubles again. That silver medal last year was really a great moment for them, they really made it a close contest versus Korea. Also I hope you are right that both Smulders sisters are in the BMX final. Even if they don't medal that will just be a great moment for them.

  28. Breaking turned out - to no amazing surprise - to be anachronistic and tedious as a TV sport - and the affectation of the B-boy and B-girl nicknames/handles rather than addressing athletes by their ordinary name like any other normal human being just made it cringe even worse. Glad its gone, frankly. Chasing 'Yuff' sport with activities that are already a bit passé is incredibly typical of the IOC and Bach, like the Catholic Church thinking it can reach today's youth with 70's folk music. Truth is, increasingly, competitive sport is itself an anachronism for some parts of today's youth. So be it. Chasing that audience is pointless - they won't come, the few that do won't stay, and they aren't loyal. Not everyone can be converted, we need to learn to live with it. If the Olympic Church has a true enemy, it's not the non-sporty, it's the increasing global dominance of one sport, football/soccer to the increasing exclusion of all else. Obviously there are different issues in North America although the principle is the same.

  41. Clancy/Mariafe are the reigning Olympic silver medalists, and are a top ten team, how was a win against them gonna be “easy” ? (Not unless you’re Duda/AP ) I feel bad for Menegatti, she carries her team. Wonder what she’d be able to do with a better defender. Same with Latvia, but to a lesser extent. Samoilova has moments of brilliance, but sometimes struggles to sideout, and can also become error prone during crucial moments (Cheng/Hughes QF: *11-13, Samoilova missed serve, and then she gets aced to end the match). Graudina rarely has bad matches, always a beast on sideout.

  43. Well, Wijler finished 6th at the World Champs and 5th in the men’s team event in 2023 (9th in the mixed event). so not so bad. Schloesser was part of the women’s team that took a completely unexpected 4th place in the team event.

  48. Doing a basic look at the 8 new team events and the world rankings, how a 6 team tournament might look, assuming as far as realistic continental representation LACROSSE: It's notable that the same basic teams turn up again and again at the top of the World rankings regardless of version of Lacrosse - Field, Box etc or gender N. America: USA, CAN, Iroquois Oceania : Australia Europe : Great Britain/England, Israel, to a lesser extent Germany Asia: Japan South America and Africa hardly figure So one suspects both tournaments are going to involve USA, Canada, Australia, Japan, Great Britain and one other - the other being either, USA2 (Iroquois), Israel or the winner of a playoff between Africa and South America. Not impossible #6 team are different in the two events (say men Iroquois, women, Israel) BASEBALL/SOFTBALL Great Britain have definitely risen in both the men's and women's game in recent years, but otherwise no surprises, the same basic system, the same likely teams FLAG FOOTBALL USA and Mexico seem the established powers (no Canada?) and given superstar NFL players like Tyreek hill have expressed an interest in trying to make the Games it could be painfully one sided Austria for some reason appear the established superpower in Europe, most of the non north American teams in the top 10 are European However Japan, Korea, Thailand and India are high enough, I think, toguarantee Asia a spot. As ever, it seems Africa will suffer. All that said, it would be interesting if decent 'tackle football' players in strong tackle football nations, esp Canada, choose to get involved. The sport is so underdeveloped, any shit could happen, frankly. CRICKET : Easily the most Global of the new sports (and arguably the one most likely to survive to 32, along with Baseball), it's hard to look past a Host and five continental teams set up which would likely be USA (Host), TRI/JAM (Panamerica) IND (Asia) Great Britain (Eng, and technically SCO and Northern Irish IRL players - Europe), South Africa (Africa) Australia (Oceania). This set up misses out badly on the possible India Pakistan dynamic but it is so hard to give West Indies nothing in favour of USA)
