it wasn't just the final. we had two semifinals against China and in both of them some magic moments happened. the Chinese guy/girl just threw his/her leg to the air and 2+3+3+3+3+3 appeared on the scoreboard. refs removed some of them but still it wasn't a fair contest. there is something wrong and I seriously hope they fix it for the next days.

I must admit that the atmosphere is very pleasant, almost all the venues I saw were full. The Asian Games are certainly one of the best continental multi-sport events, the European Games can only aspire to come closer...

The only other countries to be more than one away from what I projected were Germany who had a very good champs by their recent standards, Norway who had a couple of surprise qualifiers and Belgium/ Denmark who both underperformed by multiple boats. This could possibly end up playing in their favour with continental qualifiers though of course.

Yes. Amazing result. China did a good job but Korea is just amazing tonight. BTW just in case some of you guys don't know before, male Asian Games champions and Olympic Games medalists will be exempt from compulsory military service about 2 years. So basically male athletes may be more motivated than other countries.

  12. As a biased Canadian, I think Summer uses Fukuoka as inspiration to be ready for the 400m in Paris. Also, she won't be peaking for the nationals like this year, she will be peaking for Paris. I will never underestimate Ledecky or Titmus and they can come out hard, too (as they did in Fukuoka) but I see Summer taking her WR back in this race, setting the tone for her domination over the week. And if she wins the 400m, I see her helping Canada stay on the podium for the relay later that night. But that depends more on the state of Ruck (and to a lesser extent Oleksiak who always rises to the occasion).

Chinese gymnasts in Asian Games will not attend WCH and I think Japan is the same. China send Men's A team(quota achieved before) and Women's B team to Asian Games. And I think Japan send both B teams to Asian Games.

Rumor has it that China officials on purposely reduce some participating events and athletes to release some pressure of organizing committee as it is biggest ever game. China even has lower athletes number than 2014 Asian Games in Korea and lower number than Thailand in this game.

I feel like she has a decent shot at being in the 4x100m relay based off her split in the 4x100m medley at this year's World's it was comporable to Rebecca Smith's time from Tokyo 2020 and at this point I'm not sure we have a 4th who can go under 54 seconds although Smith, Harvey and maybe even Jansen could do so.

I’ve been between jobs for a bit, but earlier this year I began a part-time job with a local youth skateboarding league in Southern California. I just realized one of the skateboarders will be competing in women’s park today. I’ll have to catch a replay, but kind of a neat/odd connection to the Games.

  33. Right, Only two weeks after the event finished, here is my final update. I was going to include the next two best boats in each boat class but it looked chaotic and at least in 2019 although probably mostly pandemic related very few boats that narrowly missed out at worlds actually ended up qualifying for the Olympics. Hit rates Semi finals Finals Podium Winners Olympic qualifiers 122/144 (84.1%) 63/84 (75%) 32/42 (76.2%) 9/14 (64.3%) 91/114 (79.8%) So it held up quite well in terms of predicting medallists and winners so a similar type of ranking may well prove fairly accurate at least at predicting the podium at the Olympics next year. I fell one boat short of hitting my 80% target on qualifiers but sure we will round it up and say we sort of got there. Overestimating Greece's early season form and underestimating New Zealand probably were predictable errors and therefore incorporable into this ranking that probably cost me an extra one or two correct qualifiers.

  34. Looks like there has been a couple of changes made to the entry lists for next week's competition: Men's Vault Specialist: Juancho Miguel Besana has been replaced by Fabian de Luna. Men's Horizontal Bar Specialist: Juancho Miguel Besana has withdrawn and no replacement announced as yet. Women's All-Around Individual: Anya Pilgrim has been replace by Stella Diaz Munez; Caterina Cereghetti has been replaced by Anny Wu; and Christina Zwicker has withdrawn and been replaced by Anastasija Ananjeva. Women's Balance Beam: Chan Cheuk Lam replaced by Hilary Heron.

  48. I believe that selectors met this week to pick the men's squad for next month's event and assuming that they are running to schedule, the squad should be announced over the weekend after the appeal window closes later today. At the designated selection event held last weekend, neither Joe Fraser or Giarnni Regini-Moran took part - I think both are coming back from injury/illness. This left the path clear for Jake Jarman to be top scorer with 84.1. This included a 15 on floor and a 15.6 on vault but he still doesn't have the degree of difficulty on pommel or rings to be challenging the top performers. James Hall was the second highest scorer on 83.45 including 0.6 in penalties. His highlights were a 14.7 on p-bars and 14.0 on floor. Max Whitlock has staked his claim to get back on the team with a 15 on pommel along with a 13.9 on parallel bars and 12.9 on high bar whilst Courtney Tulloch is the other specialist who could make the team having scored 14.35 on rings and 15.1 on vault. Assuming everyone is fit and healthy, squad seems likely to be: Joe Fraser Jake Jarman Courtney Tulloch Max Whitlock Giarnni Regini-Moran Although that would be harsh on James Hall, it would maximise GB's prospects for making individual finals and by extension, their medal opportunities.
