wtf "the qualification criteria must include an accommodation for women who were pregnant or postpartum during the qualification period"?

Good luck to the IFs for the next Olympics. And why not including special provisions for injuries and sickness?

Tennis’ qualification system does have accommodations for injured athletes and I actually think that’s mostly a good thing.

they have it because they have it in their usual ATP/WTA ranking and there are lots of spots (+ for tennis players Olympics are certainly not the main goal and you can be certain no one will abuse of it) Try coming up with a qualification system that accomodate injuries and pregnancies in canoeing slalom or taekwondo or whatever..

Having rules where sports must have multiple opportunities to qualify (most already do) and have at least one of them being held in May/June before the Olympics solves most issues outside of injury plagued athletes (in which case you could argue that they may not be 100% fit by the Olympics anyway)

Do we have any clarity on which spot she would be taking? American quota? World Ranking quota? Or something else?

No clue. When Australia won a court case because the FIBT interpreted their own qualification document wrong before the 2010 Olympics they got an extra spot, so that’s a possibility.

I think this is the key. The rankings only came into play this year because of a very specific issue

if the qualifying events went ahead, this doesn’t arise at all
