The season's World Cups in North America have been cancelled due to the impacts from the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic:

https://www.fis-ski.com/en/international-ski-federation/news-multimedia/news/update-on-audi-fis-alpine-world-cup-north-american-races

These World Cups have been cancelled:

Lake Louise Audi FIS Ski World Cup in Lake Louise, CAN, Nov. 28-29 & Dec. 4-6, 2020
The HomeLight Killington Cup in Killington, Vt., USA, Nov. 29-Dec. 1
Xfinity Birds of Prey Audi FIS Ski World Cup in Beaver Creek, Colo., USA, Dec. 4-6

From FIS' statement:

"The adapted calendars, to be approved in late September, involve the rescheduling of the Alpine North American competitions at existing locations later in the season.

These preliminarily include events in December, with Val d’Isere (FRA) taking on an additional weekend for the men. The planned giant slalom races will be moved up one weekend to 5th-6th December making room for an added downhill and super-G on 12th-13th December to replace one of the North American weekends.

The women’s tour will add a downhill to its traditional weekend in St. Moritz (SUI) on 5th-6th December. The Swiss resort has picked up a downhill as part of its race weekend to compensate for the Lake Louise race. Additionally, Courchevel (FRA) will host a two-race technical weekend in December."

:GER Viktoria Rebensburg has announced her retirement.

From her Instagram:

Spoiler

"Hello dear friends & fans,
Today is certainly not an easy day for me, as I have decided to end my career with immediate effect after 13 years. I made this decision with a heavy heart & after much consideration over the last few weeks. After my injury in spring & the past two months of snow training, I realised that I would no longer be able to reach my absolute top level.
From a very young age, it has always been my ambition & incentive to compete for success & to inspire you on the slopes.
But now that I have the feeling that I can no longer live up to this, this is a very difficult but inevitable decision for me.
With the memory of my last race weekend in Garmisch and the victory in the downhill, it is a nice time to leave the winter sports stage.
I would like to thank my family, friends & fans as well as the @dsv_alpin with all its coaches, supporters & partners for the wonderful time and the support. Vicky"

:SUI  Wendy Holdener broke her calf bone during training. However, according to local medias she may not have to submit surgery, but her start in the first WC stage in Solden is more than questionable

Some good news in a miserable year!

Early winter in the Alps: 10 inches of snow sweeps Swiss and Austrian mountains a month before it's due... leaving authorities scrambling to clear roads

OK it will mostly melt, but some will get stored away...

Meanwhile the first competitions in months have been held, but the Chilean races obviously only had Chilean athletes this year, so they're not that interesting sadly.

    • Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody!    this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs.    most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 !  Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024   I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.
