So ridiculous it's almost beautiful, the 2030 World Cup will be played in 3.....continents

https://www.fifa.com/about-fifa/organisation/fifa-council/media-releases/fifa-council-takes-key-decisions-on-fifa-world-cup-tm-editions-in-2030-and-2034

Can't wait for another tournament that doesn't really feel like a tournament at all, like the random collection of matches that was 'Euro 2020' :d

Obviously all 6 host nations will qualify automatically. I guess that's fine, because presumably by then we'll have 128 teams in the World Cup?

They completely missed the momentum to make it the prefect Trans Atlantic affair by hosting the final on a floating stadium located on longitude and latitude zero

This also means that only teams from

Asia (and Oceania) will be allowed to bid for 2034. :KSA or :CHN will probably host next.

I assume PAR/ARG/URU means 3 automatical free host places, so how will be the Conmebol qualifier this time organized ? I guess we will finally return to the qualifying groups like in the pre 1998 era

Ridiculous nonsense. Good luck to teams having to travel between CONTINENTS after group stage when there's literally 4-5 days before the knockout phase. Jet lag will kill them. Expect a complete shitshow in that tournament.

There will only be three matches held in South America. If they’re all in the group stage, it shouldn’t be too big a logistical nightmare.

Quote

“Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay - will organise one match each of the FIFA World Cup 2030. The first of these three matches will of course be played at the stadium where it all began, in Montevideo’s mythical Estádio Centenário, precisely to celebrate the centenary edition of the FIFA World Cup.”  - Infantino

It’s still kind of dumb, but maybe not batshit crazy :dunno:

“Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. Sport can create hope where once there was only despair” - Nelson Mandela

There is extremely high turnout, and no pollster, politician, or newspaper had predicted it; now they’re all there throwing out data. No one has any idea why people voted, also because it was very technical and almost empty polling stations were expected. It will be interesting to understand whether this is a protest vote against the government or a protest vote against the judiciary.
