I realize that boxing and arrogance are a common combo, but damn, the British boxer really pushed it here... Especially since this interview happened after the match, so one can't really throw it under trash talk.

It's nothing jaw-dropping. But then again, I can imagine plenty contexts where someone who makes such remarks about their opponent's physical appearance would immediately face backlash and calls for a disqualification...

You're probably too young to remember what Muhammad Ali said about his opponents before and after his fights. ;)

And what to say about Whittaker vs Plantic

At least the referee didn't get away with his attempt to gift the fight to Plantic with his penalty point.

has someone watched the Gadzhimagomedov vs Mouhiidine match?

I just read the result and a few lines by the OA sport website, but I don't trust them at all when it comes to boxing...I haven't watched the bout, so I don't know what to think about it...:mumble:

watched the fight earlier today...

I thought it was worse than it actually was...but still, imho the 1 st round (basically, the decisive one) should have gone by a very short margin to the Italian...

then, round 2 and 3 were pretty clear...the second stint was all for Mouhiidine and the 3rd, after a messy start, was definitely in favour of the Russian...

it could have gone either way, but I'm not surprised at all it went to Russia...

quite different story the women's -51kg semifinal match between ITA and GBR...luckily it wasn't a qualifier anymore, but there's no way to give GBR that match...actually, to give GBR a single round of that match (even the 3rd messy and useless round)...

p.s. no comment on the 1st round judging of the box-off in the women's -60kg class between GRE and ITA...that was a full old AIBA attempt to steal a verdict...

fortunately, the Greek was such a disaster in rounds 2 and 3 that even those biased judges couldn't do anything anymore...

Ireland will have 7 boxers (4 male, 3 female) in Tokyo! Fantastic result! :)

Considering they’ve lost Joe Ward in 2019 and Michael Nevin this month(!), it’s an unreal performance

Different era, different circumstances.

I am not the one to say he crossed some line (not at all), but it's definitely something that would start an uproar in another context. Worth a bookmark.

Ok, Drabik is qualified to Tokyo, total disaster is avoided, but still 1 men and 1 women qualified is result below expectations. When the rankings will be closed and qualified boxers will be announced?

    • Yea I only used transit besides this Uber / bus to the airport and back. All the venues were at the end of the line, so it allowed you to speak with other fans/volunteers etc. I even met Corrine Stoddard's mom after the first session of short track on the way back, and told her to remember our conversation if she won a medal later in the Olympics. We know how that ended up...
    • I used public transit the entire time I was in Milan.   My first day was a doozy, because I had to two flights to reach Malpensa, and then the train into town was delayed, and then I got confused a station and boarded a tram instead of the metro, proceeded to travel in the wrong direction, got off, walked back to the station, found the metro, got off a station early, walked around a kilometer to my hotel, and checked in.   My colleagues mostly took cabs upon arrival, but I deduced to take the frugal approach. That said, I was a true public transit professional by the time I left Milan.   I actually enjoyed my rides to and from venues, because I'd just chat up fans and volunteers from different countries. It helped me learn more about the city too.
    • It's the olympics, sleep is for the weak!    The first day i got there i was on a 12 hour flight from l.a to rome (flight that left mid day), lay over, another flight to milan, uber to hotel, then right away to speed skating (1500m men), then after uber to hockey venue for women's gold final, then after the celebrations uber to the hotel, i ended up being awake about 36 hours that day, the next morning i thought to go sightseeing in the center of milan, but ended up sleeping until like 2pm..... and had speed skating/short track that night
    • I tried to get onto the metro multiple times and gave up    I had just arrived the day of from Bangkok (12 hr flight) and was just exhausted and wanted to sleep
    • Plus, you missed out on a potential metro ride with me, which is quite priceless in my opinion
    • My hotel was very close to Rho so was easy to get there, but it was so far from the hockey venue that after the women's gold medal match it was so expensive to get back, and also the next day after the usa slovakia semis it took forever, the asshole driver took the city and not the freeway
    • Uber cost me $224 CAD to get back to the hotel from the OC. It basically prevented me from buying tickets to a speed skating session
    • Romania's national team coach, Mircea Lucescu, has died half an hour ago He was in hospital since March 30th, just before the friendly match against Slovakia. Unbelievable how the life can have such turns...in March 26th he was in Istanbul playing the WC qualifying play-off vs Turkiye and now he died.    Thank you very much for every moments you bring us in your huge career (he's on 3rd place in a most trophies won in career, after Ferguson and Guardiola) and may your soul rest in peace, Mr. Lucescu.
