She formally competed for but decided to compete for her father's home nation. Not without France almost costing her a spot at the Olympics because they refused to release her. A report detailing the federation's abuse of its athletes paved the way for her to compete at the African Championships and now she's allowed to compete at the World Championships.

 

She should grab the Olympic quota quite easily and she's a potential medal threat in the women's uneven bars and balance beam

We have really bad and evil federations in the country, but Artistic Gymnastics's is clearly one of the worst.

Artistic gymnastics is one of the worst in a whole host of nations US, Canada, GBR, Rom, Ger, Rus

 

One might conclude that the issue is not the nation, but the sport, that what the sport values - especially on the women's side - is an archaic overhang of old attitudes and beliefs that is not actually healthy for young women.
