vlad 256 Posted June 12, 2021 #541 Share Posted June 12, 2021 I expected something else from Turkey, especially after those great matches they did in WC 2022 preliminary. But we should not forget that biggest achievements for Turkey started with a defeat: EURO 2008 (losing first match, 0-2 against Portugal), where they were semifinalists losing to Germany 3-2 (Lahm scored for 3-2 in 90th minute) and FIFA WC 2002 (losing first match, 1-2 against Brazil) where they finished on 3rd place. Sure, these could be only coincidences, but let's see if they are capable to repet these results, because the next opponents are very beatable. Congrats to Italy for the very good quality of football they showed last night. Let's see if they can keep the same level against better teams in next stages. thepharoah 2,292 Posted June 12, 2021 #542 Share Posted June 12, 2021 let's see if it was only due to Italy's dominance and strength or it's just turkey too weak for Euros
Vektor 3,195 Posted June 12, 2021 #543 Share Posted June 12, 2021 Yesterday's match was something I would expect from a v , not from an v . It could have easily been even worse for Turkey, like a 5-0, the difference was that big. The issue for Turkey now is that their goal difference can hurt them if they will be third in the group. I don't think your team will play that worse in this group. I saw Germany playing in Bucharest in March, they are weak, Portugal can be surprised as well (actually in last Euro you draw 3-3 with them). Of course, if we look on French team they seems to be the favourite to trophy (at least on paper), but you never know. Good luck.

I will be happy if we won't pull an at EURO2012 and we will have at least one close call where we will have a good shot at a draw. I think we have a stronger team than in 2016 even without our two best players, but the draw is obviously MUCH harder. vlad
Monzanator 3,601 Posted June 12, 2021 #546 Share Posted June 12, 2021 Ovidiu Hategan will be in charge of Poland vs Slovakia on Monday. He was the referee of our Euro 2016 win over Northern Ireland (1:0).
Federer91 2,150 Posted June 12, 2021 #547 Share Posted June 12, 2021 This match has a 0:0 written over it, which would be the ideal result for Turkey.

heywoodu 13,565 Posted June 12, 2021 #550 Share Posted June 12, 2021 Can't say Italy is likely to be very scared of these teams so far.. If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated!
