Cross-Country Skiing: Maybe a couple of Top 30 placings in the sprints. 0 medals.

For :FRA, 23 is in the optimistic range, so thank you for being optimistic for us !

As written by @SalamAkhi, I guess a total close to 15 medals will be a good result. We're going to depend a lot on biathlon: and like many other sports, there is a bit of randomness in the results (especially, if I understood correctly, the races risk to be a lottery because of the wind?).

But we have a very strong team (my only fear is that Sweden's/Norway's team will be even stronger), so I will predict between 5-8, including 2-4 gold.

Figure Skating : Certainly our greatest chance of a gold medal (Papadakis-Cizeron), but also our only chance of a medal at all in ice sports. 1.

Alpine Skiing : A few chances with of course Pinturault (Combined & Giant Slalom), Noël (Slalom), Faivre (Giant Slalom) and Worley for the girls (Giant Slalom). Let's say 1-3, but I could only see Clément Noël winning one gold.

Cross-Country Skiing : We have to bet everything on the M team classical spint thanks to it being in freestyle style. One other medal (M relay, M mass start ?)  is a long shot. 0-1.

Snowboarding : Snowboard cross with Chloe Trespeusch for the girls, and Merlin Surget for the boys (but he's much more an outsider). But I think our biggest opportunity lies in the team event, thanks you Olympics for the diversity ! :cool:1-2.

Freestyle Skiing : Much more optimism in this sport! Perrine Laffont will be one the favourite in W moguls, same for Tess Ledeux in W Big Air / W Slopestyle (but Eileen Gu will at home ! ), Antoine Adelisse in M Big Air, and of course our strong ski cross team in men event. A shame for the women that Marielle Berger-Sabbatel will not compete, and Alizee Baron seems injured too. Let's say 3-5, with 2-3 golds.

I'm not sure if I forget someone !

Pessimistic total : 11 (but 5 gold !?)

Optimistic total : 20 (8 gold)

My personal bet : 14 with 6 gold :raspberry:

I think under 15 medals for France is a disaster : Noel, Pinturault at least 2 races, Worley, outsiders in men speed events, men ski cross, Perrin Laffont, 2 medals from Ledeux, chance in men moguls, Snowboardcross (chances in all 3 events), 6 or 7 medals from biathlon, cross country relay men and men sprint

Team Event is another chance.

You mean individual skating Sprint ? A podium in the Team Sprint seems possible but not very likely, but M Relay is much better than a long shot. Bronze in Pyeongchang 2018, Bronze in Seefeld 2019, Bronze in Oberstdorf 2021 ... and now with Jouve as the anchor who has greatly improved his distance skills lately.

My predictions for Italy🇮🇹

Alpine skiing: Sofia Goggia in Dh, Federica Brignone in Sg, Vinatzer in slalom. Then we ha ve Paris in Dh, Bassino in GS and some other girls in speed event. Less than 3 medals is a delusion. 3 or 4 medals.

Cross country : Pellegrino not in his best season but I think he will be better in Beijing, probably best chance is bronze in classic team sprint with De Fabiani, i hope for 1 medal. 0 or 1 medal

Biathlon: Worst season of last 5 or 6 years for Italy but I think Wierer will win a medal. 1 medal

Freestyle: we start existing in ski cross but no chance for medal, I hope a top 10 finish for Deromedis, and a good performance for Donaggio in slopestyle. 0 medal

Luge : Fischnaller make too much mistakes but he can be a contender, also the double is getting better and we can have a shot also in team relay, i hope 1 medal. 1 medal.

Snowboard: in snowboardcross we can medal in women and in team event, chance also for Sommariva and Visintin (if he will be recovered well after injury) in men, good chance for men in PGS. 2 medals

Speed skating: Lollobrigida has a shot in 3000 and mass start, some little chance also for Ghiotto in 5000 and Giovannini in mass start. 1 medal

Short track : very, very difficult to predict,  chances for Arianna Fontana in both 500 and 1000, women relay and a long shot in mixed relay. 1 or 2 medals

Skeleton: this is a dream, but the dream sometimes come true, very difficult in a technical track like Beijing and with 4 runs for Margaglio, probably not possible, but its a very, very long shot. 0 medal

Reaching 10 medals should be a good enough Olympics, we have chances and I hope to take also more than 10 medals, but you know, it's winter sports and everything can happen.

:NZL NZ :NZL

As with the case NZs best chance for medals are in the Freestyle and Snowboard events. We could end up with 0 in a worst case scenario, 3 medals on a somewhat expected scenario or 8 medals which would be mind-boggling.

Alpine Skiing. Alice Robinson our only medal hope has got time on her hands. She's been in indifferent form but has really improved in the speed events, notably SG and is an outsider in her 2nd event. But her main event is obviously GS. So prediction 0-1

Biathlon. Campbell Wright another athlete has time on his hands and going for experience as this will become beneficial in time to come. So hopefully a top 20 finish will put him great stead for the future. So prediction 0

Freestyle Skiing. Nico Porteous has a lot of pressure on his young shoulders but he seems to be one of the only ones pushing the boundaries in the HP. I will not be surprised if his brother Miguel along with young guns Harrington (18) and Legnavsky(16) can upset the apple cart and nick a medal. I am however hoping rather than expecting Nico pulls it off and gets a gold if not a medal, but this sport has so many variables out of your hands. Finn Bilous and Ben Barclay can really cause an upset because they both have the skills to do it in both SS and BA. I expect nothing from the women as I'm surprised they've selected them, surely we have better freestylers than them next time round. Prediction 1-4

Snowboarding. Zoi Sadowski Synnott is the out and out biggest medal hope for gold for NZ and could win not 1 but 2 golds in both SS and BA. Worst case scenario for her 1 medal of the minor colour. Watching her at X Games just now. Absolutely wow she's lifted the level to a new extreme. But again another sport which has so many variables out of your control and I'm sure her rivals will send it. Cool Wakushima is an outside chance. Tiarn Collins could really send the cat amongst the pigeons in SS he's got all the ingredients and can pull it off which will come as no surprise for me at all. So prediction 2-3

Speed Skating. Peter Michael is not the same speed skater as 4 years ago so nothing from him but a Top 10 finish. Prediction 0.

The good thing is regardless, Whether the good or bad scenarios NZ is finally taking winter sports a little bit more serious. Because quite often it's a bit of an after thought. All of these athletes selected come from the rural areas of the province of Otago where its the only place in NZ that often snows so makes sense. The big medal hopes come from the Queenstown-Wanaka Lakes district which has a population of around 30 odd thousand. So it really is the hotbed of winter sports in NZ.
