  3. Unfortunately, one of the flaws of this tournament compared with other prestigious international tournaments is that there's a lot of players that don't take it seriously (especially Americans) and that teams can block players from participating that have recently been hurt. So far, the following notable players have decommitted from playing because of the reasons above. Curtis Mead Josh Naylor Yoan Lopez Jazz Chisholm Trey Mancini Roberto Osuna Nick Martinez Ronald Acuna Ronald Acuna is definitely the biggest name on here. Huge loss for the tournament and for Venezuela's chances of winning.

  5. We have a winner! I would also be willing to giving @phelps a bonus point for guessing a different record that equals 76
  6. Oh shoot, completely forgot about that!!! You are correct but it isn't the record I had in mind Hint: The athlete who owns the record is still active
  7. Most gold medals by a nation at one winter olympics?

Athletics: Miltiadis Tentoglou (Men's High Jump) - Achieved Entry Standard Emmanouil Karalis (Men's Pole Vault) - 23rd in World Rankings Christos Frantzeskakis (Men's Hammer Throw) - Achieved Entry Standard Michail Anastasakis (Men's Hammer Throw) - 31st in World Rankings Tatiana Gusin (Women's High Jump) - 27th in World Rankings Aikaterina Stefanidi (Women's Pole Vault) - Achieved Entry Standard Spyridoula Karydi (Women's Triple Jump) - 32nd in World Rankings Chrysoula Anagnostopoulou (Women's Discus Throw) - 25th in World Rankings Stamatis Scarvelis (Women's Hammer Throw) - 21st in World Rankings Elina Tzengko (Women's Javelin Throw) - Achieved Entry Standard Antigoni Ntrismpioti (Women's 20km Race Walk) - Achieved Entry Standard Sailing (calculated using world rankings): Men's iQFOiL - Leonidas Tsortanidis Men's ILCA 7 - Adonis Bougiouris Women's ILCA 6 - Vasileia Karachaliou Mixed Nacra17 - Iordanis Paschalidis (and whoever their partner is) Swimming The following athletes achieved an olympic qualifying time in 2022: Kristian Gkolomeev - Men's 50m Freestyle Apostolos Christou - Men's 100m Backstroke, 200m Backstroke Anna Ntountounaki - Women's 100m Butterfly + 4 athletes from qualifying for two relays (Men's medley + Mixed medley)
  9. I was unaware of this. Thank you guys for letting me know! I will fix the team sizes.
  10. I'll see what I can do. Maybe I'll do a breakdown of a few countries that are represented a lot on this forum or I can do a breakdown by sport. For the countries you mentioned, Belize has universality quotas in athletics and the men's K-1 1000m in canoe sprint. Tanzania has two swimming universality quotas, 3 quotas in men's marathon, 1 quota in the women's marathon and a judo universality quota in the men's -66kg. Oman has universality quotas in the 3 universality quotas in athletics, swimming and shooting (Women's 10m air pistol). I was not able to assign universality quotas in athletics or swimming to specific events. I just made sure that the NOC had an athlete who had a result in an eligible event. Otherwise it probably would have taken me an extra 12 hours to finish . However, in the meantime, I can definitely list the quotas for the team sports and how they qualified in my simulation Men's Basketball: Host: 2023 FIBA World Cup (Americas): 2023 FIBA World Cup (Europe): 2023 FIBA World Cup (Africa): 2023 FIBA World Cup (Asia): 2023 FIBA World Cup (Oceania): Olympic Qualifying Tournaments: Women's Basketball Host: 2022 FIBA World Cup: Olympic Qualifying Tournaments: Men's 3x3 Basketball Ranking List: Universality-driven OQT 1: Universality-driven OQT 2: Olympic Qualifying Tournament: Women's 3x3 Basketball Ranking List: Universality-driven OQT 1: Universality-driven OQT 2: Olympic Qualifying Tournament: Men's Field Hockey: Host: 2023 African Hockey Road to Paris: 2023 Pan American Games: 2022 Asian Games: 2023 EuroHockey Championship: 2023 Oceania Cup: Olympic Qualifying Tournaments: Women's Field Hockey: Host: 2023 African Hockey Road to Paris: 2023 Pan American Games: 2022 Asian Games: 2023 EuroHockey Championship: 2023 Oceania Cup: Olympic Qualifying Tournaments: Men's Football: Host: AFC: CAF: CONCACAF: CONMEBOL: OFC: UEFA: AFC/CAF Playoff: Women's Football: Host: AFC: CAF: CONCACAF: CONMEBOL: OFC: UEFA: Men's Handball: Host: 2023 IHF World Championship: Asia Qualification: Africa Qualification: Europe Qualification: Americas Qualification: Qualification Tournaments: Women's Handball: Host: 2023 IHF World Championship: Asia Qualification: Africa Qualification: Europe Qualification: Americas Qualification: Qualification Tournaments: Men's Rugby Sevens: Host: 2022/23 Rugby Sevens World Series: African Tournament: Asian Tournament: European Tournament: North American Tournament: Oceanian Tournament: South American Tournament: Final Repechage Tournament: Women's Rugby Sevens: Host: 2022/23 Rugby Sevens World Series: African Tournament: Asian Tournament: European Tournament: North American Tournament: Oceanian Tournament (Reallocated): None South American Tournament: Final Repechage Tournament: Men's Volleyball: Host: Qualification Tournaments: World Rankings: Women's Volleyball: Host: Qualification Tournaments: World Rankings: Men's Water Polo: Host: 2023 FINA World Championships: Americas Qualification: Africa Qualification: Asia Qualification: Europe Qualification: Oceania Qualification: Final Qualification: Women's Water Polo: Host: 2023 FINA World Championships: Americas Qualification: Africa Qualification: Asia Qualification: Europe Qualification: Oceania Qualification: Final Qualification: All the sports were simulated using world rankings except for handball and water polo which I couldn't find any so I used the World Championships. The one exception I made is that China got the asian women's water polo quota despite not being at World Championships because I think they're still the best Asian team. Handball is a big question mark because they were simulated using 2021 championships so there's a chance there'll be a lot of changes in the next simulation. Men's football is also a big question mark because I used the senior men's rankings to do the simulation and it probably isn't accurate for the junior teams. For example, Belgium probably won't end up qualifying. And then of course, there's the question of what South Africa will do with some of their quotas. For example, will they still accept their water polo quotas this time?
  11. Yeah, I saw some Slovak guy on reddit mention these stats and it absolutely blew my mind! I think she has a higher PPG rate than some current NHLers had when they played in the same U16 league. Truly a special player.
  12. TEAM JAPAN Manager: Hideki Kuriyama Pitchers: Yu Darvish (San Diego Padres, MLB, ) Shōta Imanaga (Yokohama DeNA Bay Stars, NPB, ) Hiromi Itoh (Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters, NPB, ) Ryoji Kuribayashi (Hiroshima Toyp Carp, NPB, ) Yuki Matsui (Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles, NPB, ) Hiroya Miyagi (ORIX Buffaloes, NPB, ) Taisei Ota (Yomiuri Giants, NPB, ) Rōki Sasaki (Chiba Lotte Marines, NPB, ) Hiroto Takahashi (Chunichi Dragons, NPB, ) Keiji Takahashi (Tokyo Yakult Swallows, NPB, ) Shosei Togo (Yomiuri Giants, NPB, ) Yuki Udagawa (ORIX Buffaloes, NPB, ) Yoshinobu Yamamoto (ORIX Buffaloes, NPB, ) Atsuki Yuasa (Hanshin Tigers, NPB, ) Catchers: Takuya Kai (Fukuoka Softbank Hawks, NPB, ) Yuhei Nakamura (Tokyo Yakult Swallows, NPB, ) Takumi Ohshiro (Yomiuri Giants, NPB, ) Infielders: Sōsuke Genda (Saitama Seibu Lions, NPB, ) Shugo Maki (Yokohama DeNA Bay Stars, NPB, ) Munetaka Murakami (Tokyo Yakult Swallows, NPB, ) Takumu Nakano (Hanshin Tigers, NPB, ) Kazuma Okamoto (Yomiuri Giants, NPB, ) Ukyo Shuto (Fukuoka Softbank Hawks, NPB, ) Tetsuto Yamada (Tokyo Yakult Swallows, NPB, ) Hotaka Yamakawa (Saitama Seibu Lions, NPB, ) Outfielders: Kensuke Kondoh (Fukuoka Softbank Hawks, NPB, ) Lars Nootbaar (St. Louis Cardinals, MLB, ) Seiya Suzuki (Chicago Cubs, MLB, ) Masataka Yoshida (Boston Red Sox, MLB, ) Pitcher/Hitter: Shohei Ohtani (Los Angeles Angels, MLB, )
  13. Thank you! I used the world championship results to do my diving simulation and Robert Lukaszewicz finished 24th in the 10m event. He may or may not qualify. Also I remember heywoodu's post during the 2022 Olympics about Bruna Moura had over 30 reactions and rightfully so.
  14. Thanks! Yeah, I personally think the final number will be much lower than 286. I believe the Netherlands was one of the countries that benefitted the most from Russia and Belarus being excluded from the simulation and as I mentioned, I didn't take the Dutch Federation's own qualification procedures into account so I would expect them to reject some quotas like the canoe sprint or golf quotas.
  15. Thanks Currently have Kirstine Andersen qualifying in the women's event. She was ranked 48th in the world when I retrieved the data at the end of last year. Sailing events are M iQFOiL, M 49er, W iQFOiL, W ILCA 6, W 49erFX, and Mixed Nacra 17. For swimming, Helena Bach was the only danish swimmer to swim an olympic qualifying time last year and Denmark didn't have any of the 16 fastest times for any of the relays which is why I only have 2 swimmers for Denmark. I personally would expect that number to go up.
  16. Thank you! I can't make any promises but I'll try to do another simulation at the end of 2023 since that's when most of the summer sports have their off-season. I don't think I'll do one anytime before that though. This took a looooooooooong time to finish.
  17. Thanks you! Yes, I actually went through the qualification system of every sport. Some of them like the team sports and ones with smaller quotas were very straight forward. Athletics and swimming took longer to do as you would expect but the qualification systems were pretty straight forward at least. Judo and shooting were personally the most annoying sports to simulate.
  18. Thank you I started working on this around a month ago and worked on one or two sports daily.
  19. Paris 2024 Quota Simulation: 2022 Data Edition Hey guys, if you were around during the 2022 Winter Olympics, you may remember that I made some team size predictions for each nation. I am pleased to say that I will be doing them again for Paris though not as often (because simulating 2,900 athletes is much easier than simulating 10,500 athletes). Over the last month, I've been gathering data from 2022 World Rankings and World Championships to try to see what each NOC team could look like in 2024. There are, however, a few things to note. Russia and Belarus are NOT INCLUDED in this simulation. Due to the current situation in Ukraine and a lack of participation by both countries, I have decided to exclude them. North Korea is also not in the simulation because I have no idea what's going on with them Refugee athletes aren't included either Tuvalu is currently projected with 0 athletes because there was no athlete that was unable to qualify in any sport under the simulation. If anyone has any idea what they could qualify in, please let me know. Internal qualification procedures (e.g. Netherlands, New Zealand) are not taken into account. Simulated universality eligible NOC's are marked with an * Unfortunately not every quota was able to be filled up. Some sports didn't have enough data to fill in all the quotas. Some sports had athletes take up multiple quotas. And then there is swimming where the IOC decided to make the qualifying standards so hard that after the final number of athletes was still 100 short of the maximum number of quotas. Despite the absence of Russia and Belarus, the quotas went down drastically from over 11,300 to 10,500. This means that we expect each NOC to have their team, on average, reduced by 8% of their 2020 size. In total, 113 teams had decreased in size, 25 stayed the same size, and 66 increased in size. Each team's change in size is shown next to the NOC name. So without further ado, let's get started. Please let me know if you have any thoughts. I plan to make another post with some analysis and other statistics about this simulation.
