  10. With Calgary out, this marks the first time in history that both #1 seeds have been eliminated in the 1st round. What a crazy playoffs it's been!
  11. Tampa Bay becomes the first Presidents Trophy winners to be swept in the 1st round!
  12. except Washington lost both their games in overtime and had an all-star goalie in Holtby to turn to in game 3. Tampa's clearly been outplayed the last 5 periods and is already using their all-star goalie. Then again, it is the playoffs and anything can happen!

  20. What a series of wild card games. Yesterday's game between the Rockies and Cubs marks the longest winner-take-all postseason game and Colorado was able to win it late with a go-ahead single in the 13th inning. The cubs ended their season with back to back losses at home. As for tonight's game, is the only way to describe Oakland's offence tonight. Using relief pitchers the whole game was also questionable. Nevertheless, Oakland continues it's postseason disappointment from this decade and the Yankees prevail with the formula that they usually use in the form of home runs. The Yankees will now play the Red Sox in the American League Divisional Series and the Rockies will play the Brewers in the National League Divisional Series. Thursday features the start of the divisional series with Rockies and Brewers at 17:07 ET and the Braves and Dodgers at 20:37 ET

  22. Here's a breakdown of all the teams that were playing yesterday with a head to head comparison of their schedules. Team H2H ARI ATL CIN COL LAD MIA NYM PHI PIT SD SF STL WSH CHW CLE DET KCR MIN Other Chicago Cubs 20 7 6 19 6 7 7 7 6 19 7 6 19 7 6 4 4 3 3 0 Milwaukee 20 6 7 19 7 7 7 7 6 19 6 7 19 6 3 4 3 4 6 0 The only significant difference is that the Cubs play the Chicago White Sox three more times that Milwaukee while Milwaukee plays Minnesota 3 more times. However, both are teams that weren't close to making the playoffs so they shouldn't affect their record too much. Every other opponent is either the same number of games or give or take one. Let's look at the other matchup. Team H2H ARI ATL CHC CIN MIA MIL NYM PHI PIT SD SF STL WSH HOU LAA OAK SEA TEX Other Colorado 20 19 7 6 6 6 7 7 7 6 19 19 7 7 4 4 3 6 3 0 LA Dodgers 20 19 7 7 7 6 7 6 7 6 19 19 7 6 3 6 4 3 4 0 Once again, not so much of a difference between the schedules. I think in this case, having a tie-breaker game is justified. Yes, they could just use head to head records as a tie breaker but it would most surely get criticism from fans of the team who lost the head to head series and other baseball fans. A head to head record would ensure it would be more fair and besides, head to head record was used to determine the home team.
  23. A late inning surge by the Brewers helps them to beat the Cubs in the NL Central tiebreaker 3-1. They will face the winner of the NL wildcard which will be between the Cubs and the Rockies. Speaking of the Rockies, they lost 5-2 to the Dodgers despite a a series of homeruns in the 9th inning. The Dodgers will play the Braves in the first Round. The playoff matchups are officially set American League Wildcard: Oakland Athletics vs. New York Yankees American League Divisional Series: New York/Oakland vs. Boston Red Sox Cleveland Indians vs. Houston Astros National League Wilcard: Colorado Rockies vs. Chicago Cubs National League Divisional Series: Colorado/Chicago vs. Milwaukee Brewers Atlanta Braves.
