No one's mentioned this yet but Sweden should also have two easy gold medals in speed skating.

In my forecast I made during December, I had Sweden winning 22 medals (10 gold) and France winning 19 medals (7 gold). Sweden's strong sports are in biathlon, cross-country skiing, curling while France's strong sports are alpine skiing, biathlon, and freestyle skiing. So it seems like if France wants to win more medals tham Sweden, they'll have to win a ton of biathlon medals while preventing Sweden from winning medals.

Either way, making teams forfeit a game after one positive test while letting them stay at a hotel that had a freaking wedding reception going on was just not going to work. Now as a result, most teams are on quarantine and wasted their Christmas. Feel terrible for the kids, hopefully it gets made up during the summer.

Don't know if this has been posted yet but Norway named it's first 7 athletes for the olympic team a few days ago. Men: Johannes Thingnes Bø Tarjei Bø Vetle Sjåstad Christiansen Sturla Holm Lægreid Women: Tiril Eckhoff Ida Lien Marte Olsbu Røiseland Interestingly, Tandrevold still hasn't been named to the team. Also apparently on the men's side, Dale and Bjøntegaard won't compete at the olympics.

Well on the bright side, at least I now have a 2 hour break to sleep each day during the time where there's usually only a single hockey game happening.

Out of all of the sports that had quotas cut, speed skating very well might have had the worst cuts. At least with cutting short track quotas, you still had extra quotas left over once all the relay and starting positions were filled out. Here, there's gonna be at least 14 deserving skaters on the men's side that are going to have their olympic dream shattered because the IOC was too cheap. If you're gonna cut quotas, at least make them reasonable cuts. Reducing the men's speed skating quotas from 100 to 83 is not reasonable.

I pretty much just looked at the world cup rankings for each distance and went down the list until I got to the maximum number of skaters allowed in that distance making sure that I only picked 3 for each country. No other nations's gained quotas and the extra quotas instead went to the bigger nations. Even after adding 5 quotas to all the relay teams, it still isn't enough to get to 56 on the men's side. Great Britain is the biggest winner as it gained 2 men's and one women's quota and now has a mixed relay qualified though the 2nd women's quota is definitely not secure. The final World Cup stop is this weekend and there's a good chance there'll be a lot of changes since the worst result gets dropped from the rankings. Hopefully some more nations will be able to qualify. Also on another note, does anybody know what's up with the wikipedia page about the qualification? Their rankings are completely different from the ISU website.
