  1. today's early action recap... women's +78kg semifinals Idalys Ortiz vs Maria Suelen Altheman Kayra Sayit vs Akira Sone repechage round Beatriz Souza vs Iryna Kindzerska (winner going for Bronze vs loser of Sayit vs Sone fight) Sarah Asahina vs Larisa Ceric (winner going for Bronze vs loser of Ortiz vs Altheman fight) men's +100kg semifinals Guram Tushishvili vs Hisayoshi Harasawa Kim Min Jong vs Lukas Krpalek repechage round Rafael Silva vs Henk Grol (winner going for Bronze vs loser of Kim vs Krpalek fight) Roy Meyer vs David Moura (winner going for Bronze vs loser of Tushishvili vs Harasawa fight)
  2. well, actually all the French medals won so far were expected...maybe Malonga's gold is a bit surprising, but for sure she was a medal candidate before the start of the champs... meanwhile Agbegnenou is one of the greatest judo player ever...I'm more surprised when she doesn't win (like in Rio) rather than when she does it... Gahie is also a great talent, she physically dominant and she can also find many "unconventional" ways of winning the bouts (which is quite unusual for French judo players, who normally rely on the most classic techniques from the standing position)...I expected her to win a global title sooner or later... I'm going further...I expected also Bouchard to get a medal... among the men, Clerget already won Bronze last year, so he can't be named "surprising"... the only medal I didn't really expect for them, is Margaux Pinot's (I mean, she's a very good player, too...but a medal...well, not yet...and instead she did it)... well, also the Netherlands, looking at their Grand Prix/Grand Slams results were expected to collects medals in the middle/heavy classes... maybe Van T End went a little further than expected with the Gold medal, but surely a podium finish wouldn't be a surprise in any case...and they still missed out on the podium with Tsjakadoea, De Wit and Roy Meyer, who had a lot of great results over the whole season... moreover, I think their women underperformed...I expected people like Polling, Steenhuis, Verkerk, Vermeer ending up with a medal...and they all failed... well, when your leader is basically a National hero, then you can expect that she's gonna get all kind of support, financially and politically... moreover, they interpretate a kind of judo that I don't like at all, but nowadays it seems to be the most effective to earn global medals... however, it's just a small group of athletes capitalizing all the investments made on them...I wouldn't define them "a judo school"...they've been lucky to find 2/3 very strong girls in the same period of time, but who knows if they're going to build on that for the future? I wrote it here before the champs started...everybody expected them to sweep the tournament, but they are feeling the pressure...and they will feel it even more next year... and technically, they're always struggling with the physical superiority and the unconventional style of many of their opponents, especially in the heaviest classes...nowadays, perfect technique is not enough to win bouts in the world/Olympic tournaments... I don't expect them to win more than 3/4 gold medals also next year...
  3. BBC is live, too...on Red Button channel (with summary later today on the main channels, but I don't remember when)... all the stuff is free of charge (with VPN if you watch it online, meanwhile nothing other then a sat dish and a stb is required if you watch it on satellite @ 28.2 East)...

  7. Stage #7, Tahiti Pro (Teahupo'o, Tahiti, PYF) Gold: Owen Wright Silver: Gabriel Medina Bronze: Jordy Smith & Seth Moniz Full Ranking: https://www.worldsurfleague.com/events/2019/mct/2919/tahiti-pro-teahupoo/results?resultsType=prizes
  8. no, she wasn't selected (each team has max 9 spots available for the 7 weight classes in each gender, so a Nation like Japan can't double start all the weights, as obviously they want a medal in each of the 14 categories...and Ono is not the Japanese champion/no.1)...
  9. Jorge Fonseca today was absolutely amazing...I loved all of his throws and all of his enthusiasm on the mat...Judo needs more personalities like him...

  12. so, we're done for the first finals...and Italy have 3 gold medals and 2 silver medals out of 6 total races great result for us the only problem being the fact that all these races are not included in the Olympic program...
  13. women's Lightweight Quadruple Sculls Gold: Italy Silver: China Bronze: Germany
  14. not so sure...629 is not such a great score...most of the 2nd relay shooters can beat him (even if I hope he and Suppini can make the final)...

  16. Cross-Country Mixed Team Relay Gold: Switzerland Silver: United States Bronze: France Cross-Country Junior Women's Race Gold: Jacqueline Schneebeli Silver: Mona Mitterwallner Bronze: Helene Marie Fossesholm Cross-Country Junior Men's Race Gold: Charlie Aldridge Silver: Luca Martin Bronze: Andreas Emanuele Vittone
  17. waiting for her to try also some athletics...maybe she's just as good as Johaug in the 10,000m... or why not some Triathlon? and we're here wasting all of our time following Pita and his adventures...
  18. sehr schön, danke... beautiful story and beautiful video... p.s. it looks like it's not geo-blocked (at least for me, in Italy...it works with no VPN)...
  19. women's Lightweight Pairs Gold: United States Silver: Italy Bronze: Germany men's Lightweight Pairs Gold: Italy Silver: Russia Bronze: Brazil as usual, Italy are a real powerhouse of the non-Olympic/Lightweight boats...
  20. men's Lightweight Singles Gold: Martino Goretti Silver: Peter Galambos Bronze: Sean Murphy
  21. and Italy also have a gold medal! Martino Goretti "fills his contract" and wins the LM1X...
  22. the Mexican single sculler is my new idol! the "minions" socks!!!
  23. and the first Gold of this year's Worlds goes to Germany... women's Lightweight Singles Gold: Marie-Louise Draeger Silver: Chiaki Tomita Bronze: Madeleine Arlett
  24. but equestrian sports are different, in the sense that this is the only sport where you see our riders competing with their Military Uniform also when they represent the National Team... and this is NOT a good thing... moreover, you underlined the positive side of our sport system...but there's also the opposite side of that medal...most of those athletes who have their financial situation made safe by the enrollment into the Military Corpse, are just not hungry enough to succeed... I'd really like to see what happens if winning global medals would be the only way to earn their daily bread, instead of not experiencing any difference between a gold and and a 10th place (Olympics apart, where some significant money is at stake for all of our athletes)...
  25. now it's time for the first medals to be given up at the 2019 Rowing Worlds... starting in a few minutes (after the first Para-Rowing finals, which I'm not going to take into consideration in this thread), Today's A Finals (non-Olympic disciplines) are: - women's Lightweight Singles (h.13:38) - men's Lightweight Singles (h.13:55) - women's Lightweight Pairs (14:47) - men's Lightweight Pairs (h.15:03) - men's Lightweight Quadruple Sculls (h.15:36) - women's Lightweight Quadruple Sculls (h.15:52)
