  1. unfortunately not... actually, funding for sports here in Italy is always less in some sports we've been lucky to find some good officials who really care about success rather than filling their pockets with money and powerful roles only Stefano Mei becoming NF president, in particular, changed many, many things in our athletics add this to a new generation of coaches who have been humble enough to go abroad (especially in the USA) to learn new training methods and open to use them instead of the old, surpassed methods of the past this is also what happened in swimming (another sport which wasn't on our radar before the end of the last Century, until the poor Alberto Castagnetti could start a new era for our swimmers -finding generational talents like Fioravanti, Rosolino and Pellegrini all together did help a lot, too) Sailing, Judo and Taekwondo are also among the NF working really well, having the advantage of a major increase of youngsters practicing the sport, which helps a lot to find new talents (it's hilarious that Judo and Wrestling are managed by the same federation, but Wrestling is and I fear will be for quite a long time irrelevant -despite a good tradition- because of lack of boys and girls enjoying the sport) other sports named above, actually already have a great tradition in Italy...in Track cycling for instance we're not even close to what we used to have until the late Sixties the main reason is the lack of infrastructure...hopefully now we're gonna have 1 (maybe in the next future 2) indoor velodromes with 250m track, which might help us to stay competitive in the next future (when a talent like Ganna won't be here anymore to make our team look stronger than it actually is) and however, the improvement in some disciplines doesn't mean that we're not experiencing a lot of troubles in sports where we used to get more than what we currently have to be satisfied with (men's Road Cycling, Rowing and Boxing, for instance) more in general, we've been lucky to find a good new generation of youngsters in the recent past and now we're enjoying them, but after Covid-19 period, we've lost a lot of boys and girls practicing any sport and we're not expecting a bright future in many disciplines which are so successful right now...we're already starting to see that trend in some sports, where we still have some promising talents, but a lot less than the recent years in terms of quantity p.s. not going to mention -not the right thread- that some of this year's medals here in Rome are also possible because of the absence of and , who have always been dominant in this sport (especially in some events) if they were here, we surely wouldn't have such an impressive medal table as it is right now

  4. yes, she was already having trouble at the beginning of the last lap and quickly got worse...when she came to the last water jump she didn't have anything left in the tank anymore... it looks it was quite hot in Rome Today
  5. so, it's game over! the last Olympic Qualification event has ended and if we want to see it as an Olympic preview, well, I'm really scared of the Chinese team...they could even make a clean sweep in Paris hope the French Range doesn't suit their style as much as Munich's

  8. well, you can make all the irony, but she actually needed (and asked for) some cold water on her body to get her temperature down, as she was suffering for a heat stroke (also her teammate beside her was immediately calling for that)
  9. it's because the actual shot put and discus throw qualifiers have been rescheduled once the original session (that should have been held yesterday in the small but scenographic stadium "delle Statue" used from Today for the warmup) was cancelled (too late) from the final program so, we have some unusual situations like the quali and final of the men's Discus in the same day and the shot put qualifiers inserted where some space was available
  10. De Gennaro is on fire! he won the Europeans, he won (and was robbed) last week and now another (this time undisputed) win Today this is one of the most unpredictable sports in the world, but man, his superiority this season is something big, really big gotta say he's the favourite for the Olympic Gold...let's see if he messes it up once again like in Tokyo (when he won the semifinal and then threw a medal away in the final)

  22. still waiting for the final anti-doping adjustments
  23. Teddy Riner did actually take part in the African Open in Marrakech last weekend of course, he easily won the gold medal in the men's +100kg class and earned 100 more points in the OQR now, he's in starting list also in the next weekend in Madrid, which means that in case of a victory (quite obvious, I guess) he would overtake Tatsuro Saito in the OQR, redefining the Olympic quarterfinals design (he would go vs Rakhimov, leaving Saito the hot seat represented by (RUS) Inal Tasoev in the quarterfinals, given that the winner of both those pools would likely face each other in the semifinals)
