What most people don't know is that it had 2 phases. One 1967-1973 when the dictator in charge Georgios Papadopoulos governed as a prime minister and then tried to transform the regime to semi-democratic. The 2nd phase 1973-74 when the radicals, under Dimitrios Ioannides who actually controlled the army, reacted to Papadopoulos intentions mentioned above and removed him in a new coup. The new regime interfered in Cyprus in the summer of 1974 , making a coup against greekcypriot president Makarios which triggered a Turkish invasion. The military junta then collapsed and transferred the power to the politicians. We actually got freed with the blood of Cyprus...
