  1. Karla Šitić fails to qualify in open water swimming. Instead of improving like athletes from any other nation would, she is like most of our athletes declining as she gets older. She was much better as a 20 year-old, when she achieved 11th place at London Olympics among other things... We'll have 72 or 73 athletes in Rio, that would be my guess.
  2. Yes, it should be like that. Meaning that Australia gets to keep women's singles quota.
  3. What? It doesn't matter how Australia qualified in women's singles. That quota still needs to be reallocated at the end. First it will go to New Zealand, and if they refuse to Nigeria. EDIT: Ah, yes, I realize now that Australia only needs to return continental quotas.
  4. ITF needs almost one month to get organize quota allocation. They really take it steady, don't they.
  5. Turkey, Spain and Italy accepted their reallocated quotas. Sweden and Canada didn't, at least not yet. http://www.sailing.org/tools/documents/2016QualifiedNationsMNAconfirmationfromallevents08.06.16-[20826].pdf
  6. Former American football player Jahvid Best will represent St. Lucia at the Olympics in 100m race after reaching the qualifying mark of 10.16. He played in NFL for two seasons apparently.
  7. Marcela Krinke-Susmelj and Molberg named as Swiss individual in dressage http://swissolympicteam.ch/olympische-spiele/sommerspiele/rio-2016/news/Die-Dressurreiterin-Marcela-Krinke-Susmelj-und-der-BMX-Fahrer-David-Graf-stehen-im-Swiss-Olympic-Team-f-r-Rio-2016.html Judy Reynolds and Vancouver also officially named as Irish individual in dressage http://www.horsesportireland.ie/horse-sport-ireland-announce-dressage-nominee-for-rio-olympics/ I'm definitely cheering for these two.
  8. Irish eventing team was selected today... http://www.horsesportireland.ie/horse-sport-ireland-announce-eventing-team-for-rio-olympics/ Clare Abbott (Europrince) Mark Kyle (Jemilla) Jonty Evans (Cooley Rorke's Drift) Padraig McCarthy (Simon Porloe or Bernadette Utopia) Reserve: Camilla Speirs (Portersize Just A Jiff) I'm quite surprised with some selections here. Speirs and Jiffy are only the reserve, despite getting a top 10 in Badminton, what a dissapointment!
  9. Wow, I just saw that he went to his first Olympics as 46 year old. Amazing.
  10. Yes, Belgium made a mess of this but what can you do... This sudden Refugee team idea just shows how much influnce mass media has on IOC... It's not like refugees didn't exist before last year. Asemani at least qualified. Meanwhile, they have given wild cards to some track & field athletes who literally don't have personal best times. Considering that, we might easily see some of the slowest times in Olympic history... Ethiopian marathon is the only one who actually has a PB. I just hope that some athletes who actually deserve to take part in the Olympics will not miss out because wild cards had to be given to such athletes...
  11. It's quite incredible that first three Venezuelan lifters had a DNF.
  12. Sadly for El Salvador they are not a tripartite nation. And that's mostly because of some random luck I guess.
  13. From what I know, wild cards in athletics and swimming are not counted as tripartite commission wild cards. Any nation that didn't qualify anyone in these sports can receive them. So Bosnia and Herzegovina should get 2 wild cards for swimming. On the other hand, tripartite wild cards can only go to eligible nations. And a nation can't get more than 6 tripartite wild cards.
  14. I actually wouldn't be surprised if we end up with Cepede Royg and Vogt (again!!). BIH got it in men's, so no women's wild card for them. My guess is that Macedonia and Oman potentially didn't apply. And the following player's rankings are just too low.
  15. Meaning that Bosnia actually didn't qualify in tennis, but only got a tripartite wild card.
  16. They might still have a chance for reallocation, depending what happens with doping nations (and depending how close Salamanca is to top 15).
  17. I've read quite a few negative comments about Broderick's selection over Allen. With some people referring to it as robbery and corruption, mainly because Allen is ranked 10th in the World while Broderick is 252nd (16th best Irish). It's easy to play general when everything is looked as black and white, I guess.
  18. Sorry Sharapova, but it doesn't matter if you did it intentionally or not. Not knowing something that you should know can't be used as an excuse.
  19. I'm surprised that they chose Broderick. Certainly wasn't an easy decision though. Btw, his horse will probably be named "Going Global" during the Games. That's because, as per Olympic rules, the names of sponsors, syndicates etc. have to be removed from the horses' names in Olympic competitions. I would assume that MHS stands for something like that.
  20. There are two wild cards for canoeing events. One went to Lebanon in slalom the other went to Palau in sprint. No more wild cards left.
  21. Slovakia wouldn't even be able compete in cross-country if Haring and other MTB racers weren't collecting Olympic points during the past two years... Just to reiterate how unfair that decision is to them.
  22. Talk about IWF wanting to keep it clean. When they are allowing convicted dopers to compete at foreign regional championships just to be eligible for Rio...
  23. Also keep in mind that we are talking about men's sport here. Successfully combining two different events is not unheard of in women's sports, but men's sports are always that more competitive and professional.
  24. Yes, but climbing is a most significant part. And race tactics is completely different than road cycling, with cyclists often going full power from the start... Definitely not something that Sagan is used to.
