I don't really get why there was any reason to doubt Horman pre-tournament if she had such a pedigree. But if they did they were clearly onto something. The look the coach gave Cheryl Bernard at the end of the game makes me think she's about to get subbed in. There's going to be intense pressure on right now.... I think its too late.
I know Slopestyle skiing and short track are unpredictable but I have hope. I also wish Patrick Chan a good skate to probably end his career, we all know he's not in medal contention, but it will be great to see him go out on top.

At this point I think we can forget about a medal in women's curling. Rachel Homan and her team are playing possibly the worst curling of their career...
Canada is the only winless team in the tournament, and Homan is playing like she wants to be 0-9.
This is very bad! I don't follow curling regularly but I'm absolutely shocked this is the team we sent, they seem to be completely inept. At what point do we sub in Cheryl Bernard, I don't even know how much better she'll be but still.

So Alex Harvey's a bust in Pyeongchang.
I mean a 7th and 8th place busy compared to Sochi. It’s a better type of busy eh?

Tomorrow there's also the women's 5000m in Speed Skating and the men's 15km Freestyle in Cross Country that Canada has at least an outside shot in.

I decided to not wake up this morning for the events but its a great thing to wake up to! Ted-Jan Bloeman won gold in the men's 10000m and Team Luge won silver!

As expected quiet day for Canada in terms of medals, with the doubles luge finishing in fifth. Men's curling is off to a great start with two victories and the pairs figure skating is 3rd after the short skate though seven pairs are within three points and will fight tomorrow for bronze. Tomorrow has the potential for being a big day for Canada.
I think the pairs medal may bit a bit much to wish for. I think our best medal hope tomorrow is Ted-Jan Bloeman in the 10,000m. But looking good in the Luge and I would not rule out the Men's Snowboardcross either.

This is normal for Korea (I lived there for 10 years). Look up what happened to Apollo Ohno. Or FIFA in 2006. Or boxing at the 1988 Olympics.
Story: At London in 2012 Park Tae-Hwan was DQed for a false start in the 400m swimming heat. That moved Canadian Ryan Cochrane into the final (this decision was later overturned, for no good reason I might add). I was the lone Canadian (or foreigner of any kind) at my place of work in Seoul and I was greeted the next day with anger, yelling and insults by my co-workers. I was told it was all a conspiracy by the swimming association and Canada to discredit Korea and push the Canadian into the final. After I was done laughing at the idea that Canada had any sway with the swimming federation, I just hid in my room the rest of the day. I was kicked out of the lunch room at noon, but when Park was re-instated later that day I was mocked relentlessly and my country insulted. This all by grown educated adults who I had been "friends" with for years. For the duration of those Olympics I was reminded daily by several co-workers of how many more medals Korea won compared to Canada while being laughed at. Koreans, in general, are terrible losers AND terrible winners. Their English word for cheating is "Cunning", just to let you know their view on the subject, by the way.
Right after the race last night, I turned to my friend and told him, "And here come the death threats!". I enjoyed my time in Korea and have made some lovely Korean friends. But this is also a country where every international sporting event I went to, locals would stand for their own national anthem and then sit for the other country's while loudly talking away. I want our hockey team to destroy them. Just absolutely smash them. Unfortunately half the Korean team is Canadian, so it'll probably be pretty close.
Now that I think about it I worked with some Korean people when Yuna won silver in 2014 and they were definitely in a meltdown mode when that happened.

Apparently Kim Boutin is getting death threats:

It was a good day overall. De Haitre really didn't look good at all, luckily his foot will probably be healed by the time the 1000m roles around on the 23rd.
-
That seemed like an obvious penalty, but I was still a bundle of nerves.

The schedule is totally nuts. There's almost so much on at the same time its worth me waking up in the middle of the night for the curling game, I can justify with everything else. And it being a gold medal match!
-
So a guaranteed medal today in Curling! Good chances (although its tight) in luge, and hopefully something good happens in the women's short track. I'm assuming the sprint is not Harvey's specialty in cross country?
-
On a different sport note altogether, what are Canada's chances in the women's slopestyle today. I know nothing of this event.
-
As much as I'm worried about Chan its looking pretty good for gold for Canada.

Yeah, the only change we've made was in the women's singles and at worst it was a lateral move. The figure skating program wants gold.
They are so close, they don't want to blow it on a stupid mistake.

I guess the main site is wrong then...
Weird...I looked last night and it said Keegan Messing and now it says Chan. We're not taking this lightly, we could have subbed out Poje/Weaver for Virtue/Moir and we didn't.
-
We are skating Keegan Messing in the men's program.

In other news, Canada finishes 1st in mixed curling. Will play either NOR or CHI in the semis. I guess we should hope for CHI, but I think CAN is on a roll now.
We have unfinished business with Norway though. It’s not bad either way.

I would think pairs
10 minutes ago, JoshMartini007 said:Nations are allowed to make two substitutions. I feel given the schedule the pairs will be one of the subs, the other will depend on health or want of the athletes (though Scott/Tessa have been on record at wanting to perform both skates). Subbing Patrick Chan for Keegan Messing will be the largest drop in quality though given only five teams compete in the final at worst it would cost us 4 points, more likely less since I don't see the Russian beating out Japan or United States' skater.
I agree pairs and women's are the most likely substitutions, Osmond sometimes struggles with the long program and Daleman does not. If Canada is looking to giving a medal to Poje/Weaver I could see them swapping in for Virtue/Moir, but in all likelihood I think Virtue/Moir do both and Canada will sub out Osmond for the national champion Daleman.

My biggest surprise was Manny OP finishing first in the training run, it means nothing in the long term but it was some positive news after the curling disaster.

I don't plan on leaving this site, lol.
Also, am I the only one impressed at Tricia Smith? She came into the COC at a difficult time and to me has been a present and likeable figure. I think that she understands the support the Canadian athletes need and I am excited to see our athletes flourish in 2020 but first 2018.

Looking at the medalists only Fillion/Benefito, Caldwell and Penderel are likely not to be back for 2020. The future looks bright!
And Pendrel was not even sure she's retiring.
Also, men's diving could be big in the years going forward.

All around great finishes tonight for Canada athletics. Bishop and the women's 4x400 relay 4th, and Ahmed 5th before being disqualified.
Those were all really big finishes for Canada.
