What a blow for Canada, but not over yet. Venezuela is 6th after snatch, 5 kilos behind 5th and in front of Mexico because of body mass (Mexican lifter is almost 60kg heavier so it's not exactly tight :p). Anyhow, Venezuelan lifter also has a solid opening weight in c&j so it looks like VEN could indeed make it with only 5 lifters!

So what's the tiebreak if Canada and Chile tie?

Meanwhile, Venezuela is out of contention in the team's classification. So far 3 out of 8 of its competitors did not finish; still they have one athlete in the top 15 individual rankings, so they probably will use that place. Also one men from USA and Canada did not finish today, so their lifters must try to obtain a good result in the next few days.

Sorry, one more annoying question. How many scores count towards the top score.

The countries that have qualified do not count for points. So if you finish fourth and are the first country not qualified you get the max 28 points. Second place gets 25, third gets 23, fourth 22 and so on.

I don't totally understand how the nation qualifications work. If you qualify in a certain placement do you get a qualifications in all disciplines?

Well...Our team is tired. I could see that already looking at Resovia Rzeszow's players at Champions League F4. The league season has been to  long... To think they actually want to make our league even bigger and consisting of 16 teams... Nevertheless, congrats! Today's win was huge also because of it we have now even bigger chances for qualifying

But Canada - i am simultanuesly impressed and dissapointed.I am impresed cause they put a heck of a fight again  versus a really talented and in theory better team. However I am also disappointed, cause they wasted  the 2-0 lead away... Well, I think it just supports what I was thinking since a few years ago: Canada has the possibilty to in a few years be amongst the world's elite. However I THINK those players need a bit psychological help. Every year they make some impressive progress, but when it comes to decisive matches/situations something doesn't seem right there.  Well, the next matches they will play against theoretically weaker opponents (except for France of course) so i still hope they'll be able to take a qualifying place.

This is a common theme among Canadian athletes.

It has been a disappointing two years for Canada, I thought they could have a very outside chance at winning a medal. We essentially switched places with the United States.

Fiji just needs to reach the quarter-finals in order to win the title. I hope they can translate this to their first Olympic medal.

My fingers are crossed that they will qualify, but eh look at this results, not very likely.

I don’t think this thread needs to be made. While some nations and athletes should be looked down at buying/selling their nationality the vast majority that get targeted are immigrants which came before they even began taking the sport seriously or athletes whose parents or grand-parents were citizens of that nation. Quite often things turn into a witch hunt. Look at what happened in 2012 with “Plastic Brits” issue.

I was coming in this thread to say almost exactly the same thing. I think this thread is rather inappropriate.

I think Canada could potentially win 5 medals.

Ryan Cochrane won medals in those events at last year's world championship. Even though his times from the trials may not sound like a winning times, he is known to perform at key events. He is certainly a contender for medals in both events and clearly does have a chance.
