  1. Definitely on the table. At the Russian trials he swam 24.08 and 52.24, so if his improvement in the 50 back translates, he should be able to go 51.6. I just wonder if he will be able to replicate those performances (or even improve on them) in Tokyo.
  2. Breaststroke is such a pointless stroke. Everyone just does as many dolphin kicks as he wants.
  3. Yes, but Poland have very big big reason to win. I think it is impossible for them to looose, zero change.
  4. Coxless Four: So neither the gold medalist nor the silver medalist from the last world championships are even in medal contention? Quadruple sculls: So why isn’t Poland in contention after winning silver at the last worlds? Coxless pair: So why aren’t New Zealand (silver at last worlds, 10 seconds ahead of Italy) and Australia (bronze at last worlds) at least as likely as Italy to win gold? Italy winning 3 medals and 2 of them in silver/gold Sounds pretty optimistic after only winning one bronze in those events at the last worlds.
  5. I think the timing of this event is stupid. They should either only have it every 4 years (2018 -> 2022 and so on) or they should have had it earlier in the year (beginning of April) to allow everyone to peak there and at the Olympics. Also as an official i definitely wouldn’t have allowed my top athletes to compete. Any unnecessary trip (to a foreign country) in the current situation is pretty stupid, especially for people who make their living by being in top shape.
  6. Obviously, the same is (very likely) true for everyone who qualified for Tokyo.
  7. In that case you seem to have a problem with your memory? Eva Risztov PB at 16 Krisztina Egerszegi PB at 17 Reka Gyorgy PB at 19 Eszter Szabo-Feltothy PB at 17 Just to name a few ... Also tons of examples on the men’s side (although not at 17, because men are usually about two years later in their development): Marton Barta PB at 17 Zoltan Drigan PB at 18 Attila Czene PB at 18 Norbert Szabo PB at 17 David Foldhazi PB at 18 Just to name a few ... Also Szilagyi hasn’t improved since 2014, Kesely hasn’t improved in the 200 free since 2017 (when she was 15) and Zombori also hasn’t improved the last 2 years (just another few examples off the top of my head).
  8. Really worrying that LEN can’t afford a commentator who is at least remotely competent/fluent in English. Also not sure why Hungary is hosting 99 % of all swimming competitions those last 24 months, considering that supposedly swimming doesn’t matter to their dictator ...
  9. 4 seconds slower than in 2016. would be a great achievement if grandma could win another medal. Also there is a new wonderkid in the 400 IM every year, odds are that she will never again go faster than today.
  10. Lol ... in charge of what? Bronze at best at the Olympics? You think all the other guys focused on the European championships instead of the Olympics?
  11. I think back then he medaled in the 200 free ... Also if there has been any suspicious performance so far, it was the Hungarian girl in the 400 IM improving her PB by ten minutes ...
  12. I think Mityukov and Miressi both set national records in the relay?
  13. I would wait at least until the Olympics to judge him. Distance swimmers usually peak early, but I never heard of a male distance swimmer peaking at 16, so he might still improve. From a German perspective (Wellbrock) I obviously hope that he won’t do it though ...
  14. New junior world record in men’s 200 free with 1:44.96 for 18 year old Hwang Sunwoo from South Korea. The men’s 200 free at the Olympics could be super quick, there are at least 10 guys who are capable of going sub 1:45 (2 Americans, 2 australians, Dean, Scott, Rapsys, Hwang, Yang, maybe some Russians, Matsumoto).
  15. You realize that Canada won only one bronze at the last worlds? Realistically even two medals would be an amazing result for Canada.
  16. I am much more surprised by the Russian results. They are near the top in almost every category suddenly. Maybe they used whatever the Netherlands used in the last couple of years?
  17. Not surprised that Germany didn’t qualify in women’s pair, I never even heard of the two athletes competing ... Personally I think it is stupid to focus on eights, but for some reason the German coaches seem to think otherwise ...
  18. 1) Did Germany qualify anyone? 2) What the hell is going on with Russia? After taking a short look at the results it seemed as if they won half the races ...
  19. The entry list is available, but why aren’t you able to look it up yourself?
  20. 1) Depends on what you mean with „dominate“. I think they are just too far away in all sprint events (especially on the women’s side). Keirin is the least predictable, so maybe they have a shot there. In the endurance events they look better, but even winning 4 out of 6 will be super difficult. Personally I would be surprised if they would win more than 4 golds. I think they could win the medal table again, but the Netherlands and/or Germany could challenge them. At 2016 worlds they won golds in men’s Madison/sprint and women’s omnium + 3 minor medals (women’s Madison wasn’t contested). At 2020 world they didn’t win a single gold and only 3 medals in Olympic disciplines (when women’s Madison was contested). If the Olympics would have taken place last year, I would have been comfortable to predict that they won’t dominate, but with one more year to improve ... who knows? Personally I hope that they won’t dominate again. 2) I think it has already been established that British cycling has a massive doping problem, so in my opinion if you don’t get the impression that people are skeptical, then probably only because most people who follow cycling are beyond the point of just being skeptical and don’t feel the need to point out the British doping all the time.
  21. Germany won’t have a shot at winning a medal on the men’s side. The best possible outcome is a 6th place. On the women’s side anything but gold would be disappointing for Germany. I think on the men’s side the Netherlands are a lock for gold, GB is a lock for silver and France/Australia will fight for bronze.
  22. I am absolutely shocked by the result of the poll on the women’s side ... Do people even realize that Germany had the fastest time of all teams at the 2020 world championships (a couple of months before the original date of the Olympics)? The correct answer is GB, USA and Germany.
  23. The only thing that is nonsensical here is your reasoning. Your whole point was that reducing the number of spots was good, because it made the sports more competitive. So unless you can give me a good reason why the same wouldn’t apply for winter sports, you can’t seriously be in favor of only having one athlete per nation in canoe slalom, but not in speed skating or cross-country. Also there are many summer sports where certain nations are more dominant than any nation in canoe slalom, for example diving, table tennis, archery or women’s gymnastics.
