  1. 1 medal in athletics is safe and 2 in swimming are likely? Does Brazil have any medal contenders in athletics apart from Dos Santos? In swimming 2 medals would be the absolute best case in my opinion.
  2. I think Seedo has her breakthrough 2 years ago at the same meet. Sophia looks like a very promising talent, not sure about your other medalists.
  3. If you are confident that she would win, then you obviously don’t follow athletics. Her PB is 22.91 with +0.1 m/s wind, Kaddari ran 22.64 with -0.4 m/s Wind in the same Stadium. MAYBE Adeleke could have competed for bronze, but that’s it.
  4. Nope. Where do you get things like that from? Do you actually follow athletics?
  5. Nope, they weren’t the better team and what they did 10 years ago has zero relevance for their odds to win gold in Tokyo.
  6. @Wumo: Some options you might consider: Women’s 100 fly: Pudar and Sjöstrom are missing. Women’s 400 free: Köhler won’t compete (will be replaced by Kullmann). Other finals contenders are Tuncel, Kesely and the second Australian. Women’s 100 breast: I would favor Jefimova, Elendt and maybe even Fast over Atkinson. Women’s 200 free: McKeon won’t swim it, you should add the second Australian instead. Women’s 1500 free: you should add Tuncel and Kesely (over South Korea ... not sure what you mean by that). Women’s 200 fly: You should add Stephens. Also not sure if Hosszu indeed will swim it. I think the 200 IM is in the same session. Women’s 100 free: Seems pretty good, maybe you could add Coleman. Men’s 100 back: I would pick Tomac, Gonzalez, Glinta, Christou and maybe even Greenbank over Thormeyer/Basseto/Coetze. Men’s 200 fly: I think Guy won’t swim it. You should add Ivanov, Chang? and the Young polish guy (Chmiel...) (over De Deus, Kudashev and maybe one of the American guys). Men’s 100 fly: You should add Le Clos. Womens 100 back: You should add Shkurdai over Fesikova. You could also add Coleman. Mens 800 free: Hafnaoui is missing (over Costa/Brinegar/Jervis). Mens 200 breast: Persson is missing (for example over Koch). You could also add Matt Wilson (Australia). Womens 800 free: You should add Tuncel and Kesely (for example over McIntosh). Mens 50 free: You should add Hayden (over Yu Hexin/McEvoy). Womens 50 free: You should add Hopkin and maybe Coleman (over Wattel/Henique). Mens 1500 free: You should add Romanchuk and Christiansen (over Costa and Takeda).
  7. I would favor Zverev, Medvedev and Nadal over him on Outdoor hard court. Has he ever won a title on outdoor hard court? He is one of the top 5 players on outdoor hard court probably, but I am not sure if he is a favorite for a medal.
  8. Pretty safe golds: Swimming: Ledecky (women’s 1500 free) Titmus (women’s 200/400 free) McKeown (women’s 200 back) Australia (womens 400 free relay) Peaty (men’s 100 breast) Rylov (men’s 200 back) Milak (men’s 200 fly) GB (men’s 800 free relay) USA (men’s medley relay and mixed medley relay) Top 5 are probably: Australia in women’s 400/800 free relay, Peaty, Milak and Ledecky (1500 free)/Titmus (200/400 free)/McKeown (200 back)/GB (men’s 800 free relay) Athletics: Holloway (men’s 100 m hurdles) Duplantis (men’s pole vault) Crouser (men’s shot put) Stahl (men’s discus throw) Vetter (men’s javelin throw) USA (men’s 4x100/4x400 m relay) Miller-Uibo (women’s 400 m, if she runs it) McLaughlin (women’s 400 m hurdles) Mahuchikh (women’s high jump) Rojas (women’s triple jump) Jamaica (women’s 4x100 m relay) USA (women’s 4x400 m relay) Top 5 are probably: Duplantis, Crouser, Vetter, Rojas, USA in men’s 4x400 m relay/Stahl
  9. Sure, they absolutely planned to be the inferior team to Germany in front of their home crowd because ... No remotely knowledgeable fan who watched that game can come to the conclusion that the Netherlands are far superior to all other teams. They had home advantage at the European championships and still were the worse team in the final.
  10. I think your men’s 800 free relay is a far bigger favorite than Asher-Smith. I think even your women’s 4x100 m relay has a better chance to medal (bronze behind the US and Jamaica) than Asher-Smith individually.
  11. Are you sure that your basketball team has a better medal chance than some of your athletes in canoeing slalom?
  12. No. Dawson certainly isn’t a bigger favorite than Scott (200 free), Dean (200 free), men’s medley relay, men’s 800 free relay, or mixed medley relay (and I didn’t even mention events from other sports, like rowing men’s eight).
  13. Tsitsipas so far wasn’t very convincing on outdoor hard court, but maybe he can surprise in Tokyo.
  14. Women’s field hockey? Did you watch the European championship final (where Germany was the better team)?
  15. For Germany 3 out of the following: Dressage team Dressage individual (Werth) Bunch of sprint canoeing events Eventing individual (Jung) Swimming men’s 1500 m (Wellbrock) Swimming 10 km (Wellbrock) Mens javelin throw (Vetter) Rowing men’s single sculls Rowing men’s eight Edit: Also women’s team sprint and women’s individual sprint (Friedrich or Hinze)
  16. If you exclude his first competition of the season, Baehre jumped at least 5.70 m in 4 out of 5 competitions this year. On Saturday it took 5.60 m to medal.
  17. This is surprising, considering that Italy naturalized half of Brazil for their team. So you are basically cheering for Brazil ... ?
  18. Not sure why you would feel that way about their fans or their coach, but I would understand if you would feel pity for their players. Personally I clearly would have preferred Denmark/Spain/Switzerland to win. Almost impossible to cheer for Italy/England.
  19. In most events the best athletes competed. Also it is a very nice chance and a Great experience for all athletes who are present. Many of them will never have a chance to medal at senior level. I think it is a good idea to give athletes a chance to compete internationally as long as they aren’t good enough yet to compete at senior competitions. I think only the following medal contenders decided not to compete: Bol, Schwab, Miller, Healy, Vicente, Patta, Schulte, Ansah-Peprah, Dustin, Miron, Ingebrigtsen, Heyward, Baehre, Duplantis Others like Knoroz, Kienast or Benfares didn’t compete for other reasons like injuries.
  20. In men’s high jump the level was disgustingly bad (2.17 m winning silver ...) and in women’s 4x400 m Germany didn’t use their (by far) best runner. This again shows that people shouldn’t just look at the medals, but at the actual performances. In many disciplines some of the best athletes didn’t even compete.
  21. Obviously I was only counting Olympic events. Did Ireland win 2 medals in Olympic events?
