Qualification Tracker

Test

  1. I don't think it's a problem, this is a swimming qualification thread and there's no doubt other qualifiers for large nations will be talked about (we already did it for France). Honestly for a sport like this and athletics there isn't much else to talk about since there isn't any true qualification event since it's all about times.
  2. Not a great day for Canada, pretty much the minimum expectation going into the finals. So many athletes were close to the A standard and it will be unlikely that we'll send a 4x200m team if we qualify one. Of the athletes which qualified they will have a good chance at reaching the final and an outside chance at winning a medal if everything holds up.
  3. There will only be two quotas available in women's table tennis since we used one for the Pan Am Games. Technically Bermuda and US Virgin Islands can compete in North America too. That probably won’t happen without objection from both North and Latin America. Neither continent will want to lose their team quota, but the more pressing issue is that we wouldn’t be guaranteed to keep the nine individual quotas given to both continents.
  4. I'm quite nervous for Canada, we could still finish fourth in this group.
  5. The women’s 100m butterfly final is looking to be very interesting. Penny Oleksiak set a new Canadian junior record as she finished first in the heats ahead of Noemie Thomas and Katerine Savard. The three swimmers will likely fight for two spots on the team. In the other events so far it will be unlikely that Canada will have a swimmer in the men’s 400m IM (four seconds off in prelims) though longer distance swimmers usually don’t put up top times until the finals, Brittany MacLean is set to qualify in the women’s 400m free and Richard Funk has a chance at reaching the men’s 100m breast time, he was just 0.09 seconds off the qualification time, a second swimmer is also possible too.
  6. It's amazing how even Group A has been. Slovakia may lose all their games, but they have been competitive so far.
  7. Canada's Swimming Trials begin today. Qualification is simple, swim the Olympic Qualification Time and you're in. Relay qualification is if the sum of the four fastest swimmers minus 1.8 seconds is less than 8th place at the 2015 World Champs.
  8. Hopefully this gives the team the confidence to finish second in the group and then qualify to the Olympics.
  9. If Spain loses to Germany they are pretty much out, they'll finish fourth and have no chance at defeating Hungary. At this rate maybe Kazakhstan will defeated them too.
  10. French Trials are now over. Here's who qualified to individual events based on the times. Charlotte Bonnet - W 200m Free Coralie Balmy - W 400m Free Florent Manaudou - M 50m Free Jeremy Stravius - M 100m Free Clement Mignon - M 100m Free Camille Lacourt - M 100m Back Also up to 6 men and 6 women will be selected to the team, plus relays.
  11. Even if he misses out today he still has a good chance at qualifying through the world rankings. Assuming no major upsets in the Asian and European qualifiers he is currently on the inside.
  12. If Brazil doesn't win another men's quota they will use the host quota for the team event while the Latin America event will go to Cuba (or whoever else qualifies two athletes).
  13. I think Asia is quite smart with this format. They give other regions which are far weaker a chance to qualify and in the end it doesn't matter too much for Asia because the top athletes from East Asia will qualify from the world rankings. In fact the nations which will lose out are the ones which will qualify at the tail end of the world rankings which will be most likely European nations (though Thailand may get unlucky).
  14. UCI needs to regulate which events get points a bit better or at least have some events be worth more points than other.
  15. Update (Remove) Men's -74kg Freestyle (Wrestling)
  16. France could give us some trouble, though defeating Russia and then losing to France would be weird, but that's sport.
  17. Big win for Canada, it keeps second place in the group open.
  18. Here's hoping Guinea-Bissau qualify their first athlete tomorrow.
  19. So unlucky, I think they are essentially guaranteed a tripartite quota. STP has always had good relations with the ICF and I can't think of a nation more deserving of one of the two spots.
  20. Since yesterday only 1 individual athlete has reached the French standard. Hopefully France rethinks its policy.
  21. I've added her. It'll be quite the upset if she wins though, but crazier things have happened in a single match.
  22. He and other boxers from Turkmenistan will have a good chance, Asia is pretty depleted now as is the other continents. It'll likely come down to what the bracket looks like. Hopefully Pakistan will solve its issues and will send athletes to the final tournament as well, though qualification is unlikely (did Muhammad Waseem go pro?).
  23. They'll still have a chance to qualify at the final qualification event.
  24. Also Afghanistan, Bangledesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka
