  1. So after doing some number crunching, assuming Hong Kong gives up its quotas at the Asian Champs and all teams use only 1 additional quota to make their team(very likely) and there are no major upsets the current final athletes in the rankings are Serbia's Aleksandar Karakasevic (85th) and Hungary's Petra Lovas (99th). Of course the rankings will likely change between now and the deadline.
  2. You'll never know when the mighty Bermuda and US Virgin Islands will decide to participate
  3. Taking a closer look I can see the two lower ranked athletes from Hong Kong will compete. Is Hong Kong just going to reject them once their top athletes qualify?
  4. This just made the European qualifiers that much more interesting. However, assuming the top seeds win most of the qualifiers would have qualified to the Olympics regardless. It mostly guarantees borderline Asian players a spot and will likely only cost Europe a small handful of spots
  5. With that Australia has confirmed its 34 swimmers. 3 more will be added if (when) Australia qualifies its 4x100m freestyle relay.
  6. Not too bad for Canada. If we can defeat Australia we're in a good position to reach the semi-finals.
  7. It'll likely end up being the top 29 since six team quotas will likely be added to the individual quotas along with the host quota.
  8. Australia Swimming Trials - Day 8 Women's 50m Freestyle - Cate Campbell, Bronte Campbell Men's 1500m Freestyle - Mack Horton, Jack McLoughlin That's it, the final team should be announced soon.
  9. South Africa Swimming Trials - Day 4 Men's 200m Breaststroke - Cameron van der Burgh That was done in the semi-final. Chad le Clos repeated the 200 butterfly standard in the final.
  10. Update (Remove) Men's Singles (Table Tennis)
  11. Results for the Oceania Qualifiers are still unknown. According to a news article Fiji's Robert Elder and Tonga's Sifa Taumopepeau won the men's quotas while Australia's Semra Ferguson and Tonga's Lusitania Tatafu won the women's quotas.
  12. Basically the Chinese trials were more of a suggestion, China won't let a swimmer who had a bad day not go to the Olympics, especially if they are a medal threat.
  13. He didn't participate. From what I heard he can still (and likely will) be added to the team.
  14. Maybe, but to be fair Algeria, Egypt and Tunisia have already qualified in that event. The only major nation missing from the entry list is Senegal (maybe Cote d'Ivoire and Ghana since they are entered in many events too)
  15. Money is always a big problem for Pacific nations with athletes quite often paying their own way to these events.
  16. Australia Swimming Trials - Day 7 Men's 50m Freestyle - Cameron McEvoy Women's 800m Freestyle - Jessica Ashwood Women's 200m Backstroke - Belinda Hocking, Emily Seebohm Nobody qualified in the men's 100m butterfly
  17. Looks like New Zealand won't participate in the OQT part of the championship according to Australia. One of Fiji or Tonga will win a women's quota while both nations will win a men's quota (no other eligible Pacific nations are participating).
  18. In terms of the quality not much will be changed, he's barely in a qualification position. My concern is that there are a lot of golfers on the fence about going and if more people start withdrawing they may be inclined to do so as well.
  19. Only 2 fencers in women's foil are listed in the African qualifiers entry list and one of them is from South Africa.
  20. Fiji's Vijay Singh has withdrawn from the Olympics. Also listed in the article of having previously withdrawn is Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez (though he is currently an alternative). Hopefully this won't gain too much traction or golf's future in the Olympics will be dire.
  21. South Africa Swimming Trials - Day 3 Men's 200m Butterfly - Chad le Clos The time was made in the semi-final. Also Chad le Clos and Christopher Reid reached the standard again in the final of the 200 free and 100 back respectively.
  22. Will the results be used to make the Olympic team?
  23. Australian Swimming Trials - Day 6 Men's 200m Backstroke - Mitch Larkin, Joshua Beaver Women's 100m Freestyle - Cate Campbell, Bronte Campbell Women's 200m Breaststroke - Taylor McKeown Nobody qualified in the men's 200m IM
  24. Japan has officially announced its team of 34 athletes. (In Japanese, An English Version). They still have too many relay-only swimmers (15 when they can only have 12). Assuming FINA says something that would likely mean at least three athletes will compete in the individual events.
  25. South Africa Swimming Trials - Day 2 Men's 200m Freestyle - Chad le Clos Men's 100m Backstroke - Christopher Reid Both times were reached during the semi-finals with the finals expected to race tomorrow. Van der Burgh broke the standard again in the 100m breaststroke finals.
