  1. Most nations have accepted their quotas from the world rankings. The biggest ones missing are China, Japan, South Korea and Chinese Taipei. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was some internal selection going on between eligible players. Sweden has also yet to confirm Kristian Karlsson. There is the possibility of an internal selection from there too or maybe they just haven’t gotten around to doing it, they were quite slow to accept the quotas after the European qualifiers.
  2. What happened in the -105kg? The winner (who likely competes in the -94kg) would have lost to the winner of the -69kg if they competed against each other.
  3. Kenya is about to be declared non-compliant by WADA which could make it go the way of Russia.
  4. Assuming the wild card entries are accurate I like their choices so far. Sri Lanka was an obvious choice and Bangladesh was a good choice too. I would have preferred to see a man from Madagascar, but at least the nation is represented. Equatorial Guinea is a bit of a surprised, I could imagine other nations being higher priority. Kosovo’s athlete is pretty weak too, but I feel the tripartite commission would be very generous with them. Hopefully they don’t go too overboard with them.
  5. Ignoring the obvious troll it is quite possible that Canada could finish with 0 golds. Just like in 2012 we are pretty good in most sports, but rarely the best.
  6. Very good choices overall. I doubt the other women's single sculls spot will be filled so that spot will be reallocated to the final qualification regatta (Europe + CAN/USA/AUS/NZL).
  7. The United States has a lot of depth in athletics outside of the race walks, though even that is starting to get developed. So far the only other events which don’t have at least three athletes reaching the standard are men’s hammer throw, men’s javelin, women’s triple jump and women’s javelin.
  8. Technically the unused quota from Canada in the women’s K1 would go to the US, but then the US would have had to decide between its women’s K1 and men’s C2 since a nation can only qualify two athlete quotas from the continental qualifiers. Is it possible for the US to use their C1 winner and add him to the C2 boat? What would happen to the missing athlete quota, will it go to the C1? I hate that ICF gives the public no information. The are by far the worst sport at this, especially considering that they have such a complicated qualification system in the sprint.
  9. More or less. ITTF set aside 22 quotas for team members which have not qualified in the singles tournament. This was done to guarantee nations which qualified 1 athlete to the singles tournament, but also qualified a team two athletes in order to make a team. Of course in hindsight it is unlikely we will need more than 16 quotas. North America is guaranteed to always have 2 from the same nation while Asia, Europe and Oceania are pretty much guaranteed to have 2. Africa is still very likely to have a nation with 2 as long as Egypt and Nigeria remain the top nations. The only scenario where a nation would need 2 team athlete quotas is for Latin America and the host. Of course it’s better to be safe than sorry when making the qualification document.
  10. By my count he's pretty much guaranteed (outside of Serbia declining the quota)
  11. Probably after all of the quotas have been accepted. After that the team quotas will be given out. Overall we should have 7 quotas added to the world rankings; 6 from unused team quotas and the host quota. Just like the scenario with Russia, North Korea won't get a men's quota because he did not compete at the Asian qualifiers.
  12. The Russian athlete did not take part in the continental qualification tournament.
  13. Looks like Madagascar will miss out in the women's events too unless Cameroon has a DNF. Hopefully they'll get a wild card.
  14. India benefited the most as they gained two while Ukraine had the most dopers with three though they will still compete in the men's 125kg freestyle since a different athlete qualified in the 2nd World Tournament. Kyrgyzstan had a net 0 by losing one to doping, but gaining one somewhere else.
  15. It gets reallocated to the final qualification tournament
  16. Technically you don’t have to reach MQS to be allowed to compete (I’ve seen them make an exception many times). Hopefully Dominican Republic becomes one of those exceptions
  17. Top 4 men after ranking round - Top 4 women after ranking round - Guatemala has a good chance for an upset in both the men and women while Argentina and El Salvador could have upset potential in the men.
  18. Well Flora Duffy will get a quota for Bermuda through the rankings and I think Barbados has a man that will qualify through the rankings too (should things remain the same).
  19. I missed the German trials, but here's a list according to SwimSwam of the athletes which made the "long list" Women: Franziska Hentke – 400m IM, 200m Butterfly Sarah Köhler – 400m and 800m Freestyle Leonie Antonia Beck – 800m Freestyle Lisa Graf – 200m Backstroke Alexandra Wenk – 200m IM, 100m Butterfly Dorothea Brandt – 50m Freestyle Men: Jacob Heidtmann – 400m IM Johannes Hintze – 400m IM Florian Wellbrock – 1500m Freestyle Florian Vogel – 200 m and 400m Freestyle Jan-Philip Glania – 100 m and 200m Backstroke Christian Diener – 200m Backstroke Damian Wierling – 50m Freestyle Philip Heintz – 200m IM Marco Koch – 200m Breaststroke Paul Biedermann – 200m Freestyle Christoph Fildebrandt – 200m Freestyle
  20. Thanks, it looks like the news at FIVB is one day late. It's not too surprising, northern Africa is pretty good in sports and with South Africa pulling out of continental qualifiers there are now even fewer nations which can stand against them.
  21. The semi-final for the men's African continental cup has been released. The final should be tomorrow. vs vs
  22. Maybe not to Europeans... Anyway, Israel is probably right at the borderline for what this project was designed for. They'll probably have around 40 athletes and while winning a medal is possible they aren't heavy favourites (women's -63kg in judo I think is their most likely medal)
  23. I really hope the start list is missing a lifter from Mauritius. The nation isn't a tripartite nation so they can't get one through that method. I hope IWF gives them a reallocation spot.
  24. Hopefully UWW clarifies the 125kg situation soon.
