  1. Yeah, I imagine "what to do with a DNF" must be in the rule book so the confusion wouldn't have taken that long. A protest was more likely.
  2. It happened in 2018 in the women's relay. Funny enough, bronze medalist Netherlands set a world record in the B Final.
  3. I'm afraid the IOC will let her compete and then disqualify her later, if necessary. There isn't much time for them to come up with an outcome before the women's singles
  4. Final Thoughts Canada won one medal today in short track, shame it wasn't two, but that's the nature of the sport. I was sort of hoping we could reach the semis in the men's team pursuit, but given Canada's earlier performances it would have been difficult to medal. I think our women's curling team is done while the men's are still in it. We are second in women's monobob, hoping for a medal tomorrow. Our men's ice hockey team finished 5th overall and will play China again. After that our opponent will be Sweden. At least we avoided Finland and Russia, but Sweden and the United States will not be easy games.
  5. Yes, they only do one race. Hope we can convert more South American roller skaters into speed skaters
  6. In terms of medals, Canada has been keeping pace with expectations, but if you were expecting a repeat from 2018 it's understandable as to why you would be disappointed. On the gold medal front things have been pretty bad. We didn't have too many gold medal favourites and the ones that were haven't been cashing in.
  7. Honestly the best I felt we could have done was 4th so maybe it was for the best we finished 5th.
  8. We’ve reached the half way point at the Olympics and Canada currently sits at 13 medals. Going into the games I predicted 24 medals and split them into six categories. Let’s take a look at how they are doing. Freestyle Skiing – 2/5 medals Overall Canada is on pace to achieve this goal. Most of the medals in this event, including the ones Canada is favoured in are in the second week. If things go our way, we may even surpass my prediction. Snowboarding – 5/5 medals Mission accomplished with the two big air events remaining. We can still win 1-2 more medals which would help compensate the other sports should they fall short. Short Track – 2/4 medals Such an unpredictable sport. We could win medals in all four remaining events or win none. I don’t think we will be unlucky enough to go 0 for 4, but we may need a little luck to win two more medals. Speed Skating – 2/4 medals I had such high hopes for this event, but losing out in the men’s 500m will make things a bit tough. The women’s team pursuit is in a good position for a medal, but a fourth one will be harder to find. We’ll see how the men’s team pursuit performs later today, if not it would have to be in women’s mass start, but Blondin didn’t look too good in women’s 3000m and missed the 5000m race altogether. Curling/Ice Hockey – 0/3 medals Team sports have not been good for Canada. Losing mixed doubles curling meant the other curling teams and men’s ice hockey would have to be near-perfect and none of them are making a strong claim for a medal. There’s still a lot of games to be played, but a huge turnaround for two of them is required. The women’s ice hockey team should easily contribute to the total. Other Sports – 2/3 medals Medals in alpine skiing and ski jumping have made this goal much easier to attain. Our bobsled team should be able to win at least one medal, possibly even more which can help compensate the other sports. More medals in other sports will be unlikely. Our best chance would be if the whole team figure skating fiasco gets settled prior to the end of the games (which could happen since there’s a push to get things finished before the women’s singles event) and Canada gets upgraded to a bronze. After that we could luck our way into the alpine skiing mixed team podium or if you really want to push it, the men’s pursuit in biathlon or women’s singles in figure skating (would likely need the entire ROC team to either not participate or mentally breakdown due to the add scrutiny).
  9. Given their play, I think > and > in regular time is very likely to occur. That will give the United States the top seed and the FIN/SWE winner the second seed. Canada will finish either 4th or 5th depending on whether FIN/SWE ends in regular time, but will face the loser in the quarterfinals. The 5th seed will likely face China. Germany will face the winner of Slovakia/Latvia as an 8/9 seed match while the loser will likely face Denmark as the 11th seed (Latvia could be a 10th seed and face if they lose in OT and scored at least one goal). Of course if Germany decides to show up tomorrow things will move around.
  10. Unless we get crazy results tomorrow, Russia will be the 3rd seed, Denmark will be 5th/6th (likely 6th), Czech Republic will be 7th and Switzerland will be 10th so we already have a potential first round match-up.
  11. Final Thoughts Another poor day for Canada, but at least we won a medal. We also lost a very good medal opportunity in men's 500m speed skating and lost all of our curling and ice hockey matches. While Rahneva recovered in the skeleton the second run from yesterday killed her chances. We also are in 6th in ice dancing, a medal was always going to be difficult, more so after watching their performance in the team event.
  12. At this point we would be very lucky to reach 6 gold medals, we just don't have a lot of events in which we are the overall favourite.
  13. The United States took over the game as the period went on
  14. Yup a couple of good medal opportunities today in mixed snowboard cross and men's 500m speed skating, still holding out hope in women's skeleton, but she pretty much needs two first place finishes in order to have a chance at a medal. Ice dance begins today, but given our performance in the team event, a medal is now unlikely. Also a big match in ice hockey which will likely determine the group winner.
  15. Her performance in the team event gives her an outside chance, but it would probably take all three Russians to not appear and maybe a couple of falls by some of the other top skaters.
  16. Final Thoughts A very poor day for Canada overall, not only did we not win any medals today, but the performance today put other medals in danger. The second run in women's skeleton killed Canada's (albeit small) chances of a medal. Bloemen's second poor performance in speed skating puts our chances in the team pursuit at risk and both curling teams lost, though it's not the end of the world as there are a lot more games left to be played. We did have some positives, our women's ice hockey team is in the semi-finals with a strong victory over Sweden and our performance in short track went well with all men advancing in the 500m along with our relay qualifying to the finals.
  17. Group B teams seem to be performing better, better watch out, is coming for you.
  18. What a horrible second run for Canada, down to 9th
  19. After a strong day yesterday, Day 7 seems to be a lot quieter. Our medal hopes will mostly be in short track (women's 1000m) and speed skating (men's 10000m). I'll be keeping an eye on women's skeleton to see if we can put ourselves in a good position tomorrow.
  20. Final Thoughts Overall a great day for Canada, we won a medal in almost all of our realistic chances, 2 silvers and 2 bronzes. The lack of gold medals is a bit concerning, but there is still a lot to go. We also won all of our curling matches and the men's ice hockey team seems to be in good form
