  1. Men's 71kg- Wanderson de Oliveira 5x0 Wendel Stanley Difficult bout against Walsh now, probably the most important one from that quarter.
  2. Men's 57Kg: Luiz Oliveira def Munarbek Seiitbek 4x1
  3. It would be a shame as they never had a swimmer. Is this official already?
  4. In the official document the wording is more clear but not enough I think it is something similar to the tennis rule that have different rules to younger/older than 30: In this case... I think the rule only applies if the athlete is younger than 30. if the athlete is over 30 he/she can go. But if he/she is younger, can not go to a third Olympic. I guess the idea behind is: if the athlete is older, it gets an "extra" Olympic to go to. Not sure if it's the best or if it's what the document says. what do you think @JoshMartini007 @OlympicIRL @Josh?
  5. Not sure if this would be thread or the Swimming 2024, but... I was curious and took the 2 best times from american swimmers between march 2023-24 to check what would be the US swimming "selection". It would have 20 male athletes, 18 female athletes, plus 3 men and 2 women to fill the top6 in 4x100m and 4x200m. The 12th relay only quota would go (in my mind obviously) to Simone Manuel, 7th from 4x100m. Do you think the official selection will be very different from this one? Can Dressel comeback in time? MEN (20+ 6 relay only) Bobby Finke - 800m freestyle, 1500m freestyle Carson Foster - 200m butterfly, 200m medley, 400m medley, 4x200m freestyle (3rd) Charlie Clark - 1500m freestyle Chase Kalisz - 400m medley Dare Rose - 100m butterfly David Johnston - 400m freestyle Destin Lasco.- 200m backstroke, 4x100 freestyle (3rd) Hunter Armstrong - 100m backstroke Jack Alexy - 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle Jake Foster - 200m breaststroke Josh Mateny - 100m breaststroke Kieran Smith - 200m freestyle, 400m freestyle Luke Hobson - 200m freestyle Matt Fallon - 200m breaststroke Nic Fink - 100m breaststroke Ross Dant - 800m freestyle Ryan Held - 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle Ryan Murphy - 100m backstroke, 200m backstroke Shaine Casas - 100m butterfly, 200m medley Thomas Heilman - 200m butterfly RELAY ONLY Brooks Curry - 4x200m freestyle (6th) Chris Giuliano - 4x100 freestyle (5th) Drew Kibler - 4x200m freestyle (4th) Jake Mitchell - 4x200m freestyle (5th) Justin Ress- 4x100 freestyle (6th) Matt King - 4x100 freestyle (4th) WOMEN (22) 16+6 relay only Abbey Weitzeil - 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle Alex Walsh - 200m medley, 400m medley Bella Sims - 400 free, 4x200m freestyle (3rd) Claire Curzan - 200m back Claire Weinstein - 200m freestyle Dakota Luther. - 200m butterfly Gretchen Walsh - 100m butterfly, 4x100m (3rd) Jillian Cox - 800m free Kate Douglass - 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 200m breast, 200m medley Katie Grimes - 1500m freestyle, 400m medley Katie Ledecky - 200m freestyle, 400 free, 800 free, 1500m free Katherine Berkoff - 100m back Lilly King - 100m breast, 200m breast Lydia Jacoby - 100m breast Regan Smith - 100m back, 200m back, 200m butterfly Torri Huske - 100m butterfly, 4x100m (4th) Relay Only: Alex Schakell - 4x200m freestyle (5th) Erin Gemmell - 4x200m freestyle (4th) Leah Smith - 4x200m freestyle (6th) Maxime Parker - 4x100m freestyle (6th) Olivia Smoliga - 4x100m freestyle (5th) Simone Manuel - 4x100m freestyle (7th)
  6. But thinking about it, the same has happened to Brazil in 22. Only Brazil had 3 athletes on the top15, but as none. of them went to the top8, it finished 4th.
  7. well, you are right BUT if Janire and Lucia finish better than her, just give Spain the team quota already!
  8. Yeah, independent on qualies. So, basically: Now we have 16 on MR and 32 on repechage. by the end of 29th we will have 8 on MR and 16 on repechage. All the 8 at the 5th main round will be necessarily top12. So, if 4 of the 7 not on contention (Picklum, Fitzgibbons, Weston Webb, Bonvalot, Hennessy, Marks, Defay) advances, the top12 will necessarily qualify and therefore it will mean a quota for the other surfers who advance to Main Round 5.
  9. Is there any official procedements for who would obtain the team quota?
  10. Update on Universality Quotas: No elegible country has representatives on the top50 So only El Salvador can get a quota, from one of the 3 athletes that participated in 2023 MEN 33 Porfirio Miranda 49Bryan Perez 49Daniel Monterrosa In Women's 2023 13 Candelaria Resano ? Lucy Jarrard also on competition now!
  11. Brazil has an internal regulation, so it will only take boats that are top16 in the worlds. We still have to see if our NOC will comply to that or push to send all boats.
  12. I believe they have until June to disclouse their quotas, but I would assume it would be in a couple of weeks. The deadline for the NOCs to apply for quota was on January 15th, so it's difficult to know if AMerican Samoa for instance applied for Liam Wilson (hopefully so).
  13. Apart from the direct Olympic quotas, ISA games are also important to define Universality elegibility. An athlete must be top50 in either the WSG23 or WSG24. In 2023, 4 athletes were top50, 3 men from El Salvador, 1 woman from Nicaragua. MEN 33 Porfirio Miranda 49Bryan Perez 49Daniel Monterrosa If I'm not mistaken all surfers that go through round 3 and/or repechage 4 will be top50 (top54 more precisely). On men's side, Liam Wilson, Yeferson Lopez Oscar Guzman and Cody Merritt are still on the repechage round 2. WOMEN 13 Candelaria Resano All female surfers qualified to round3 and repechage 4 are top48, so even 3rd places on repechage 3 (tomorrow) are elegible (49-56). If I'm not mistaken only Lucy Jarrard is still on the run (qualified to repechage r3), besides Resano. Perez and Resano participated on a training camp in Teahupo'o last year and I guess they would be favorites for the quotas, but not sure how Perez is doing now.
  14. But perhaps wouldn't be the case of those countries read the OQD beforehand and send new athletes? I like the idea of Universality quotas not being given to the same athlete over and over.
  15. Is this an official selection, right? as all the 3 of them already had quotas!
  16. I've tallied up athletes that qualified in both events. Obviously some of those athletes could choose to focus only in one event and the quotas would not be reallocated. As some countries that qualified with different athletes (as in UK) could end up choosing to double up someone. But, objectively speaking, athletes won a quota for their countries in synchronized and individual: M3m Springboard: 8 (including Jules Bouyer, from France, who had already a quota in sync but participated in the event) M10m Platform: 10 W3m Springboard: 8 W10m platform: 8 Apparently (according to wikipedia, Osmar Olvera and Rylan Wiens are confirmed to double up). Considering only the finalists we have already 143 (7 extras from the 136). So, if really 34 athletes double-up, we would have 27 more quotas. 17 or 18 of them would go to the semifinalists (as Sofiia LYSKUN could also double-up), and we would have 9 or 10 more quotas. If there are 10 quotas, this would mean that all 22th and better would be in the Olympics. Curiously 34 finalists double up (from 48 athletes), but only 1 of the 24 semifinalists, and none until the 22th. Sorry if it is in Portuguese, but the green ones are "guaranteed" and the yellow are the other finalists According to the counts above (obviously not official AT ALL), the semifinalists plus the ones in purple would get in (the Ukranian is double-up)
  17. They could easily get the IOC invitations, specially one or two divers.
  18. Apparently, FINA was interpreting the rule in a way to give Korea and Israel the quota. But some noise is being made for them to properly read their own document and so it is still uncertain.
  19. Basically that is what our Brazilian journalist in location reported. But I still think it is not written properly. It doesn't say explicity that only gold/silver could get the quota and Brazil/Kaz should fight for their quotas.
  20. I also think that if 2 athletes qualified on individual they should also have the permission in the syncro... And in the end, this thing is very messy. it doesn't make too much sense 2 athletes win quotas in syncro and then the same two win in individual and the country have the possibility of taking 4 athletes.... it should be like canoeing. If you win in syncro you can participate in the individual and open up quotas automatically.
  21. We think so, but that's not official at all. Actually, not even finalists are safe, at least officially now. The official document is very very very clear that in no way it will be possible to have more than 136 athletes. At the beginning of the WC we already had 90 quotas distribuited from host country, Fukuoka and Continental Golds. As the Syncro quotas are guaranteed, we will have 32 more, so 122. This means, only 14 quotas will be definitely officially given right now. In the women's plataform we had 4 finalists in. For the men's at least 4... The NOCs will have 2 weeks to confirm the quotas and than reallocation process begins. China for instance (and other countries) probably will have 16 quotas, but will take 9, 10 athletes. I'm not really sure about 2 things: 1- Do the countries have to nominate their athletes now or can China (and other countries) accept the 16 athletes and can in June/July say "here we will only have 9 athletes, thanks". Or do they have to nominate their athletes now? What I think: If we count all the finalists we will have a bit more than 140 athletes, with 5-10 exceding. I THINK the World Aquatics will confirm all those quotas, knowing that in the end they will have less then 136. And ONLY then they will start to invite the semifinalists. 2- The reallocation will go through the position of the semifinal (as in: first all the 13th, then 14th, then 15th, etc?). Or will they try to adjust first the 4 individual events in the number of athletes? I think it will be the first.
  22. that's how you jinx it hahaha but was an amazing sommersault indeed
  23. The German federation also reported that. From my understanding the continental quotas should only go to countries NOT YET qualified. But reallocations from non-represented continents and host country could go to countries with only 1.
