  4. Duplantis CHOSE to skip this event. It is not their fault that he created an opportunity for the others, and they took advantage of it. Also, one could argue that they are unlucky to compete against Duplantis in all other competitions, and that in another era they would be more successful because they wouldn't have to compete with Mondo. And Blech cleared 5.80 and didn't win a medal, which was the first time in the men's pole vault since Belgrade 2017 that someone cleared 5.80 and still missed the podium. The level was not as low as you make it out to be. I am happy that Karalis finally got a medal after being close many other times (4th at the Tokyo Olympics, 4th at the 2019 European Indoors, 5th at the 2018 World Indoors as an 18 yo...)

  5. It's pretty common for Roest to be totally collapsed after November or so, but he's been pulling it later and later, at least this time he postponed it to March Incredible race for Ghiotto and Schouten today (and the whole women's 5k was fantastic). Ghiotto's race showed why only fools who have no clue about the sport (i.e. important people, sadly) would want to even think about getting rid of the 10k, what a race.

  6. We know Duplantis was not there, no need to remind it every 30s. As we say here "les absents ont toujours tort", congrats to the winner.

  10. Marta Kostyuk wins her first WTA title in Austin 6-3 7-5 over Varvara Gracheva in the final. Wilson and their red dress can be proud they signed her at the right time when she can maybe make a run towards Top 30 of the rankings this season. Obviously there was no handshake at the end given Kostyuk's previous comments.

  11. Good stuff! Training has been very much on/off for me since the summer. Politics took away most spare time meaning that I didn't run much for the last 3 months of last year. But I'm getting some pretty good runs in the last couple of months giving hope for a good half mara this summer. Did manage my best 5k since 2020 last weekend (24:09) and have started adding some kms. Have had a bit of back issues as well. Doing a bit of core training to help.

  12. In the end the Greek team ended with 3 medals (1 gold and 2 silver). It was more or less expected. Tentoglou getting gold was always extremely likely to happen, now it was his third in a row and he is still undefeated in European competitions. He has a chance now in Budapest to hold all 6 major titles at once (Olympics, World Championships, European Championships, World Indoor Championships, European Indoor Championships, Diamond League). He was so close last year and very unlucky in Eugene to leave with silver. Karalis silver was nice and I knew he would have a good chance for a medal. Andrikopoulos was a surprise, I thought maybe one of the other triple jumpers or Stefanidi could win our other medal. A few others with PBs and SBs was also nice to see.

  22. I think the timing of the three competitions this weekend could have been scheduled a little better. Let me explain, when an WC or IBU Cup stop are in North America, there are always fewer who attend. But combine that with the World Youth/Junior Championships also along way from central Europe and you get even fewer younger biathletes able to attend. I love the spreading out of the races, but I think that this schedule did not permit the IBU Cup in Canmore to see a full field.

  27. Topicmaster1010's 2023 WBC Power Rankings: Part 3 Been a while since the last edition. I"ll try to get another edition done later today. Tier 3: Dark Horses 9. Colombia WBC History: 2017 - 11th 2023 Schedule: 3/11 - @ Mexico, 3/12 - Off, 3/13 - @ Great Britain, 3/14 - vs. Canada, 3/15 - vs. United States Notable Absences: Luis Patino, Donovan Solano Players to Watch: Jose Quintana, Gio Urshela, Jorge Alfaro So every power rankings that I've seen so far have Colombia outside of the top 10 and I don't understand why. This is a very solid team in all areas. Colombia qualified for WBC for the first time in their history in 2017. They made sure to make the most of if beating Canada and almost upsetting the powerhouses teams of the United States and the Dominican Republic. Arguably no nation has improved more in the last six years than them producing many MLB players that will be making their debut in this edition of the tournament. 8. Cuba WBC History: 2006 - 2nd, 2009 - 6th, 2013 - 5th, 2017 - 7th 2023 Schedule: 3/8 - @ Netherlands, 3/9 - vs. Italy, 3/10 - @ Panama, 3/11 - Off, 3/12 - vs. Taiwan Notable Absences: A bunch of MLB players who either weren't invited or declined to participate Players to Watch: Luis Robert, Raidel Martinez, Livan Moinelo, Alfredo Despaigne It has been quite a fall for the nation that was almost unbeatable during the 90's and 00's. There WBC record has been trending down and during they failed to qualify for the 2020 Olympics marking the first time that Cuba has ever failed to medal, let alone qualify for the Olympics. This decline can be widely attributed to the fact that most of their talent defected from the country in order to pursue an MLB career. This has lead to the Cuban federation approving the participation of US based players for the first time ever in their history. A total of 6 MLB affiliated players accepted the invitation highlighted by a pair of Chicago White Sox players. 7. South Korea WBC History: 2006 - 3rd, 2009 - 2nd, 2013 - 9th, 2017 - 10th 2023 Schedule: 3/9 - vs. Australia, 3/10 - @ Japan, 3/11 - Off, 3/12 - vs. Czech Republic, 3/13 - @ China Notable Absences: Choi Ji-man, An Woo-jin, Ryu Hyun-jin Players to Watch: Tommy Edman, Kim Ha-seong, Lee Jung-hoo, Go Woo-suk, Kang Baek-ho Speaking of countries on the decline, South Korea is another. After medaling at the first two editions of the tournament, they failed to advance past the opening round in the last two editions including the 2017 one where they were on home soil. During Tokyo 2020, they were playing in the bronze medal game against the Dominican Republic when they lost the lead late in the game and ultimately lost. 13 players return from that 2020 team seeking redemption along with a couple MLB stars including an American-Korean. Edit: After the news today about Quintana's injury, I might move Colombia down a tier.

  41. Coach said: "We're going anyway" Club president said: "A final on Sunday is just not possible." So who knows Although a TV program, slightly satirical, made me laugh a bit: "If they win the Cup, they can go into Europe and you might get SV Spakenburg - FC Barcelona. If they win that, they could get into the Champions League, so we'll get SV Spakenburg - Real Madrid. And if they win that, they're going to the Club World Cup and we'll see SV Spakenburg - Boca Juniors." Then he was asked, with some disbelief, "where will this end?!". PEC Zwolle, yeah.... Den Bosch is from the southern part of the Netherlands, where it's more Catholic and so Carnival is somehow a thing (which we, here in the center and north, just find odd), so maybe they partied a bit too hard in Carnival week recently

  45. Chotis "Chotis" is a dance and music style that apparently originated in Bohemia in the late 18th century, quickly making its way to other parts of Europe and America. It is characterized by its slow and graceful rhythm, and is often performed as a ballroom dance. The chotis is usually performed by couples, who dance to the accompaniment of a small orchestra or a single piano. The dance is characterized by its smooth, gliding steps and elegant movements, and is typically performed in a relaxed, leisurely manner. The chotis was very popular in Spain in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and was considered one of the most sophisticated and refined forms of Spanish dance. Although its popularity has declined in recent decades, the chotis remains an important part of Spanish cultural heritage, and is still performed and appreciated in Madrid.
