Quick and dirty OG simulation after the ladies short: 3 spots: 2 spots: * * 1 spot: * * * countries that have the chance to qualify an additional spot at the Nebelhorn Trophy It appears that every country that qualified a skater for the long program got a spot, the question is will something weird happen near the top to allow a country that didn't qualify for the long program to get a quota. It will be pretty hard to qualify out of Nebelhorn with the USA, South Korea and potentially Canada all trying to grab an extra spot, along with France who still hasn't qualified.2 points -

I think that World Championships have higher priority, so, if Blessing will qualify also from African/Ocenian qualifier I believe that next best African girl will qualify, but I would be glad to be wrong and see our girl as qualified to Olympics in different way1 point

Weightlifting 2021 Discussion Thread
thiago_simoes reacted to MHSN for a topic
yes I did and this is the post since that day the TPE guy is also got disqualified and he is out too. first let me explain that Aramanau didn't really participated at +109kg. to qualify for the Olympics you have to participate in 6 events but 4 of them will be counted, so most weightlifters had two "DNS" . means they just participated in the weigh-in and then withdrew. they usually do that in the upper weight to not cut weight. that's why you see Aramanu or Yang Zhe in the ranking. they never really participated at the +109kg. both Belarus and Armenia have just 1 quota to use. Armenia has Simon Martirosyan who is the clear gold medal favorite at 109kg. so unless he gets injured they will never send anybody else. same goes to Belarus. Ziaziulin has a chance for medal but Aramanau has a chance to challenge Martirostan for gold and his silver is almost secured. if I was Belarus I would send Aramnau for sure, again unless he gets injured. after all he is not young. removing Armenia and Belarus leaves Fernando Reis Saraiva as the 3rd best result among the remaining athletes. you can go here and sort the athletes by their "best total" I believe it will be between Brazil, Algeria, Turkmenistan and Syria . https://www.iwf.net/qualif/menu/ and Davoudi chokes sometimes, of course winning silver should be very easy for him. he just lifted 451 in total in a local competition couple weeks ago. almost everybody here thinks he will win the silver in Tokyo (no more, no less) Iran is also limited to two male weightlifters, and Davoudi (barring injuries) will get one of those 2. not because he is great, but because our coaches also did all these calculations themselves even though "officially" we still have 4 weightlifters in race for Tokyo and Davoudi is just one of them. if we remove ineligible weightlifters, here is the best official result (by official I mean results in IWF sanctioned international competitions) of remaining weightlifters in past 2.5 years. 484 Talakhadze 441 Davoudi 436 Reis 431 Bidani 430 Asaad 427 Toychyyev 427 Seim 418 Kucera1 point -

Belgium finished last in Race 11 and didn't start race 12. Ireland now has two boats ahead of Italy (3 boats) and Belgium. Ireland's lead over Italy is 38. I think they have to avoid any more disqualifications though!1 point

Nations like Malta, Macedonia, Oman, Nicaragua ,Bhutan, Nepal, Aruba, Myanmar, Belgium,Ireland, Senegal, Montenegro, Iraq, Bolivia, etc are some of the nations who will probably join the qualified list through reallocations or tripartite invitation accordingly. Can't say all of the above but around 40-50% of above1 point -
Overall. You qualify an athlete in any event, through any means (ranking, competition, tripartite or even reallocation), you are ineligible for any more reallocations.1 point

Kristóf Milák's time at the Hungarian National Championships in men's 200m butterfly: 1:52.50 That's the 5th best ever time in men's 200m butterfly. I believe that if everything goes well the WR is within reach for him in Tokyo. He's obviously our best chance for a gold in swimming. Boglárka Kapás is also looking really strong, 2:06.85 in women's 200m buttefly, that's almost the same time she had at the 2019 Worlds where she won the gold, we can expect a new PB from her in Tokyo.1 point

This is a completely bogus story. It is NOT a list of happy countries, it’s a list of countries that have lots of thing that academics like - welfare states, good public transport, windmills, crusty bread, art galleries, statues of mermaids etc etc. Back in 2011 someone did a survey of which countries were ACTUALLY the happiest. The winner? Nigeria. https://www.theguardian.com/global/2011/jan/04/nigerians-top-optimism-poll1 point -

As the world continues to grapple with the COVID-19 pandemic, Swimming Canada has invoked the unexpected circumstances clause of its Olympic team nomination criteria, and is postponing the Olympic and Paralympic Swimming Trials until late May. Swimming Canada will also plan a supplementary Olympic qualifying opportunity in June. The clause allows the Swimming Canada Selection Committee to determine if unexpected or unusual circumstances have arisen during the process of applying these Criteria and have the full and absolute discretion to resolve the matter as it sees fit, taking into account factors and circumstances that it deems relevant. Any such exercise of discretion shall be subject to the Canadian administrative law principles of fairness. The following swimmers have been provisionally nominated by Swimming Canada’s Selection Committee for the rescheduled Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, for the following specific individual events: Kylie Masse (Lasalle, Ontario), 100m and 200m backstroke Margaret Mac Neil (London, Ontario), 100m butterfly Penny Oleksiak (Toronto, Ontario), 200m freestyle Sydney Pickrem (Halifax, Nova Scotia), 200m breaststroke, 200m and 400m individual medley Taylor Ruck (Kelowna, British Columbia), 100m freestyle Markus Thormeyer (Delta, British Columbia), 200m backstroke More: https://www.swimming.ca/en/news/2021/01/22/six-swimmers-provisionally-nominated-to-represent-team-canada-at-tokyo-2020/1 point
