  1. So Japan released their qualification times for Paris recently and if you thought the British times were crazy, wait until you see these times. Most of them are the times of the 10th place finishers at the 2023 World Championships. All times need to be achieved at the Japanese Olympic Trials next year which have been moved up a month from April to March (March 17th-24th to be exact). Baffling decisions from a program that has been in decline the last few years. 13. I'm sure there's someone out there who can answer that Ben. I believe there are 16 spots available in total in each event. WC – 5 (could have been 4–8) Host – 1 Tripartite – 1 Continental (Africa & Oceania) – 2 Rankings – 7? If only three from the rankings then how are the other other four places determined? As I understand it the five NOCs in each event that gained spots at the WC are the only ones that can secure a second quota.

  19. Meanwhile in Brazil the South American Championships are going on in 30 degrees (in the early morning, after 9am it goes way above that, up to 37-39 later in the day). Yesterday were the freestyle sprints, with Victor Santos taking the men's title, ahead of Rhaick Bomfim, who competed in the early 2020 Youth Olympics and then just stopped altogether, but managed to get out of the situation and pick up the training again. Sebastian Endrestad made the podium somewhat international with a bronze medal for Chile. Claudio Gustavo Oliveira was the fastest in qualifying, but in finals had to compete with the juniors. https://www.fis-ski.com/DB/general/results.html?sectorcode=CC&raceid=43871 In the women's qualifying, Duda Ribeira was the fastest, but to everyone's surprise - her own, her coach, her competitors - she was then basically forced to start in the junior's final, where she apologized to the other juniors who were definitely not counting on that. It was also a shame for the senior race, where a nice fight between Duda and our very own Totallympian @brunamoura was expected, but yeah, that didn't happen. https://www.fis-ski.com/DB/general/results.html?sectorcode=CC&raceid=43872

  20. Absolutely this. A short or long finishing straight doesn't make it 'better' or 'worse', the top athletes simply take it into account when making their race plans.

  30. The "highest ranked three (3) athletes" rule applies only for the nations that already qualified an athlete. For example, if qualification ended today, and would get a second quota via ranking in women's trampoline, and in men's. The other places would go to NOCs that have not qualified an gymnast yet. Also, in the end I think both the host and the Oceania spot will be unused as they should qualify via ranking.

  35. I think you can certainly make a case that a type of track suits a power sprinter, or a rush sprinter; someone who can maintain speed, and someone who can accelerate to a super high speed for a shorter time. That doesn't mak the track bad for sprinting - it might make it 'bad' for a certain subgroup of sprinters - nothing new in that - Helsinki Athletics track is infamous for its tight bends, i've even heard people comment about deeper and shallower 50 metre pools. the only bad track is one that is either wildly unfair or one that allows no room for tactics - the first is a disservice to the athletes, the second to the fans

  40. I'm a bit disappointed by Pergher's time over the 500m, I expected her to be within 1 sec from the actual race winner, but she's at least 3-4/10 outside that meanwhile, even if she slooks like to become a pure 500m specialist, I'm really disappointed with her 1.20 over the 1000m...she can do way better than that good results instead for Bosa, waiting for Ghiotto to enlight our speedskating weekend p.s. 43. Agora é buscar a vaga no pre-olimpico. Sempre temos dificuldades nesse evento, então nao esperava tanto.
