Olympic Qualifiers (My predictions in brackets) - 9 (8) - 5 (4) - 3 (5) - 3 (4) - 2 (2) - 2 (1) - 2 (1) - 1 (1) - 1 (1) - 1 (1) -1 (1) -0 (1) I'll probably do a more detailed breakdown after the finals tomorrow but Brazil go top of the global qualifiers standings after continental stage which just whatever ridiculous number Australia get to come. ( Brazil-9, China/ France-7, Turkey-6, Ireland/ USA/ Algeria-5). USA just about salvaged a solid total with that Josh Edwards win against Fernando Arzola which also condemned Cuba to what must be their worst ever panamerican games boxing performance. Also if anyone cares I broke 60% on my qualifying predictions 20/30 (66%) and a miraculous 14/16 on the womens side of things and I kinda think I was unlucky to not get a couple more. It's bizarre how much easier predicting these becomes when there are less entries.

Assuming he’s chosen by Venezuela, it will be only his second appearance at the Olympics after *check notes* Los Angeles 1984 He won his only other medal at the Pan American Games 40 years ago in Caracas.

Other chances: Mixed pistol pairs, Keirin men, Madison men and women (who had the smart idea of scheduling the madison with the team pursuit)? And the 5x30 rifle event for men, if Ikeda and Sych perform to their potential, both should make the final.

Groenewoud (5th at World Championships), Kiel (surprising 2nd place, making her World Cup debut at age 27), Rijpma-de Jong (reigning World Champion), Beune (6th last year in the final World Cup standings) and Wijfje (back after a poor season) qualified for the first World Cups. Only one smaller surprise: Irene Schouten finished in 8th place, one spot behind 16-year old 6x junior World Champion (1.000m, 1.500m, mass start, team pursuit, team sprint & allround) Angel Daleman. Last year Schouten also finished in 8th spot at the qualification tournament, but that was after she took it a little easier during the summer, following her 3 Olympic gold medals in Beijing.

  24. The Dutch qualifications for the first four World Cups started about 1.5 hours ago and already some big surprises. The 5.000m for men just finished. Patrick Roest won the 5k, which is no surprise as he's the reigning World Champion. However, the other skaters who qualified for the first four World Cups are Chris Huizinga, Jesse Speijers (21 years old), Marwin Talsma, and Gert Wierda (21 years old). This means the following guys are out: Jorrit Bergsma (4x silver medalist at World Championships over 5.000m), finished in 10th place Beau Snellink (last year's World Cup winner over 5.000m and 10.000m), finished in 9th place Marcel Bosker (5th at the 2023 World Championships on the 5.000m), finished in 6th place

Jose Rodriguez won his Welterweight Semifinal bout and progresses to the Gold Medal bout, by this he not only assured at worst another Silver medal for but also secured a quota for himself at the Paris 2024 Olympics. What’s sad is that this is one of the states that is a stronghold for MORENA, the governing “welfare leftist” party, which just a month ago suppressed and took all the money from the federal fund for disasters because “it wasn’t necessary”, when in reality it is being funneled into the presidential campaign of the president’s dauphine, same woman who in her previous two government posts did nothing during the 2017 Mexico City earthquake and the collapse of the “metro” lines two years later.

Bahrain beat Qatar in the semifinal and they did it without two of their best players (one got injured early and the other one received a direct red card in the 1st half) history repeated once again, 4 years ago Bahrain also defeated Qatar in the SF. if I'm not wrong that was the only defeat of this Qatar team (World selection team) under Valero Rivera in an Asian competition.
