SWEDEN :SWE

Tomorrow Sweden’s biggest party Social Democratic Party (Socialdemokraterna) will start their congress. The party’s leader and Sweden’s Prime Minister Stefan Löfven will step down. Finance Minister Magdalena Andersson will take the role as the leader of the Social Democratic Party and possibly as Sweden’s first female Prime Minister ever. I’m so proud of her!! I will tell more about her after she has take over. Good luck QUEEN!!

Virginia has voted for a Republican governor. Quick loss for Joe Biden's crew there.

Anyone still cares about George Floyd? Guess not. Minnesota rejected the idea of replacing the police department. I remember the heated arguments here over 12 months ago. Look how things have changed when everyone went back to living their lives. All those mental health instructors can truly bugger off now. Ain't gonna happen.

Do Social Democrats actually have any political competition in Sweden? It seems like a one-party system given how Social Democrats are always in power :p

Unfortunately they have competition in Sweden.  Social Democrats took the power again in 2014 after some years with the Moderate party and Fredrik Reinfeldt as Sweden’s Prime Minister.

Social Democrats are in danger again! I hope the new leader Magdalena Andersson can save them and Sweden.

How quickly everyone forgot Afghanistan....

Because Afghan lives don’t matter according to western human right values.  At least 1000 Afghan lives worth one sentence of Nalvany and 100 Afghan lives worth a Hong Kong activist pleading guilty.

    • There is a transgender volleyball player here in Brazil; there was even a recent controversy (this year) when a city banned her from playing in a certain competition, which ended up in court, ultimately in her favor.   But the situation is much simpler than that; the reason for this decision is because of the two female boxers who won at Paris 2024 (who apparently are not transgender).

    • there were rumors about it for quite a while, but as I wrote, it was never confirmed so, it might well be just some haters throwing out some shit on her 🤷
    • Where did you get that?   I'm not sure I would have considered her to have dissapeared from out of nowhere, at least since after Tokyo... she did win medals at the next two World Championships. I think it's just recently, she's been struggling with injury which is why she's completely out of form...
    • Even though I'm not the biggest fan of her, always sucks to see a career ending through injury and not on your own terms
    • This is going to have an effect on very likely 0 athletes, possibly 1 or 2 we don't really know about yet. It's really mostly the cheapest possible way for them to make a sort of political statement, without having any significant backlash since it won't really affect anyone at the top level of international sports.   Edit: worded a bit wrong, I was thrown off by everywhere 'trans women' being mentioned as the target of this. Of course there is also the somewhat larger category of DSD and the likes, which will certainly affect a few athletes - unfortunately they are often thrown under the bus or mentioned as 'not really women anyway' or something like that, despite, you know, being.
    • Mary Rand has died aged 86. The first British woman to win a Gold in track and field at the 1964 Tokyo Games (where she also took home a further two medals in the Women’s 4x100m relay and Pentathlon).
    • Athing Mu competed in the USA trials in 2024 and 2025 post the 2023 rule changes. She also won Gold in 2022 and Bronze in 2023.    Jelimo the jury is out. She doesn’t look male like the other two do.
    • People focus on trans people because it's easier to pinpoint the affected athletes. Meanwhile it's the athletes with (suspected) DSDs that will have tougher time to convince the authorities and the public opinion that they belong to women's sports.
