I'm not 100% behind IOC changes either (those mixed events are mostly unnecessary and will only be good for the top nations anyway), but at least they're trying to add new things (and nothing extremely radical like what happens on YOG). For some opinions here, it looks like 3 or 4 more women's events will completely ruin the Winter Olympics :p

The problem is that every mixed event any random person throws at them as suggestion seems to be added, while actual new sports (telemark skiing, natural track luge) don't make it. They are doing rather radical stuff for the Summer Olympics by the way, with 100% judge sports like surfing or skateboarding, or a non-existing climbing event as the only climbing event.

New events:

Women’s Monobob

Mixed Short Track Speed Skating Relay

Mixed Ski Jumping Team Event

Men’s and women’s Ski Big Air

Mixed Team Aerials

Mixed Team Snowboardcross

Quota changes:

Biathlon: -20

Bobsleigh: -12 men, +12 women

Curling: +4 (2 added mixed doubles teams)

Ice Hockey: +46 (2 added women’s teams)

Skating: -26

Skiing: -41

I excited to see the monobob, not sure how I feel about the Short Track Mixed Relay, Definitely think the Mixed Team Ski Jumping belongs, Ski Big Air was inevitable, no need or reason to add Aerials Team and Snowboard Team (dumb, dumb, dumb, dumbest)

I know, I’m sad to see they weren’t added

So apparently alpine combined is not out? So much for @heywoodu's statement about Gisin being Olympic champion for all times. :p

It isn't official yet, as you can read on the official document "Technical review still in process by FIS"

LOL no. The same nations will win other things as usual :p

It's not about who wins, it's about having competitive events. Removing competitive men's events or reducing fields there, solely to have more equality, doesn't seem fair at all if they are replaced by events that are not even half as competitive. One example would be bobsleigh: there are quite a large number of men who can win it, while there are realistically speaking maybe 2-3 women's drivers who could do so. Bigger men's field seems fair. On the other hand in skeleton, the women's field is generally more competitive at the moment, so increasing women's quote seems fair there.

Well, yes, but I was referring more to the women's "problem". The new sports are a whole new conversation.

The IOC Charter says events need to be finalized at a min 3 years before the Olympics... so yes.

Well, IOC rules became flexible under the Bach's governament. Milan will host the IOC session and Italy will be candidate for 2026 Olympics (it wasn't allow), 2024 and 2028 Olympics was decided during the same IOC Session. IOC became a big joke, thank Bach :)
