Say hello to the mixed eight event

does it mean they are going to drop M8+ and W8+ or what ? looks like we are having another mixed event in beach sprint rowing so I assume it makes sense to drop those 2 events to keep the same number of 14 events for 2028.

Oh no, taking away the "King's and Queen's disciplines" for this would be horrible...

Surely not, they're the showpiece events of every cycle. I can only think they must've had discussions over increasing the 10,500 quota for LA.

M8+ and W8+ are a flop with only a few countries competing throw the year and little entries at the Olympics. It would be a great idea to take them out of the games to create more quotas for other events.

The event was already contested at 2023 Pan American Games, first as a replacement event for M8+ & W8+ due to the lack of contestants in both events, then alogside them.

 

I agree, Eights and Lightweights are looking like candidates to be dropped from the program, the first due to lack of emerging crews, the second cause it makes no difference other than giving continental berths to look more “universal”

Rowing season starts tomorrow afternoon & ends tomorrow evening  with The Boat Race.  Some familiar problems - water quality like a 50s horror film & disputes as to whether those recently arrived 28-year old Olympic gold medallists really doing that degree in Sanskrit Philology & Euclidean Geometry.

European U19 Championships concluded today.

 

Good showing for  with 3 gold (M2X, W1X, W2X) and 1 silver (W4X). We finished second in the medal table only behind  (same amount of gold but they had more total medals).

 

Panagiotis Makrygiannis, the defending world and European champion and overwhelming favourite in M1X, had to withdraw, otherwise we likely would've won the medal table

Eight is going nowhere - it's a totemic event in the sport, essentially the blue riband, new nations notwithstanding. Lightweights are gone.

I agree, eights are actually one of the most iconic events of the Games, always have been.

But lack of "new" nations is very troublesome.
